Call for Papers

The Call for Papers has now closed.

Conference Theme
The conference theme is Unity in Diversity: different perspectives, common purpose

The theme acknowledges:
  • The rich diversity of perspectives that contribute to our shared knowledge base – philosophies and values, cultural diversity related to ethnicity, place in the lifespan, gender, as well as different consumer perspectives
  • A desire across Australasia to move from splintered and uncoordinated support frameworks to a more integrated approach to individuals, family and social groups, and communities.
Presentations, workshops and symposium sessions that relate to the conference title and themes are especially welcome, but all topics relevant to themes will be considered.

Abstracts should address one of the following topics:
  • Bioethics
  • Legal issues and developments in forensics
  • Cultural and social contexts – eg, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, gender and age
  • Values into practice, eg, person-centredness, collaborations, models of funding, advocacy, inclusive education and emerging practice
  • Health and wellbeing across the lifespan eg, dual disability, sexuality, life course perspectives, empowerment, resilience and flourishing
And fit within one of the following streams:
  • Research / academic
  • Practice
  • Lived experience (self-advocate, family)
Presentation Formats
  • Paper, 30 minutes including 10 minutes for questions/responses
  • Workshop, 90 minutes
  • Symposium, 90 minutes including questions (3 x 30 minute paper)
  • Poster (to be displayed at designated times throughout the conference)
Abstract Submission Guidelines
Please read the guidelines on how to make your submission before you start the process.

Don't worry if you do not have the final version of your submission right now.  You will have the ability to login and amend your details right up until the deadline for abstract submission closes Friday 27 April 2012.  After this date, your submission will be sent for review for inclusion in the programme.

Review Guidelines & Evaluation Criteria
The review guidelines outline the review process and the evaluation criteria that all abstracts will be peer reviewed against.

The goal of the peer review process is to ensure that all papers presented meet minimum professional standards and reflect careful preparation in advance.  The peer review is intended to be as objective and inclusive as possible.  The abstract will need to indicate the purpose of the paper, some background, what was done, what was found, and the significance of the findings/outcomes.

The Conference Committee reserves the right to decline any submission without assigning reasons.  All submitters will receive an email confirming the outcome of their proposal.

Please note:
  • Each presenter may participate in a maximum of 3 presentations.
  • The organising committee reserves the right to accept proposals under a different category, for example, accepting a paper as a poster or changing the theme.
  • Presenters who have been accepted must register for the conference by Friday 7 September. Conference registration will open in June.
Conference Proceedings
There will be NO conference proceedings produced after the conference.  All abstracts will be published in the conference handbook only.
