Professor Alfred Chan, Chairman, Elderly Commission, Government of Hong Kong SAR

Prof. Chan has been both a practitioner in welfare services for older persons and an academic in social gerontology. Starting his career as a nurse and later on as a social worker in serving older persons, Prof. Chan has extensive skills and knowledge in health and social care services and policy making. His academic interests, such as the interpretation of intergenerational relationships, ageing and long-term care policies in Asia Pacific, the development of health and social care measurements, Quality of Life, Caring Index, etc. are closely related to this area and his research have been widely published in refereed journals and as book chapters. He is currently the Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies and Office of Service-Learning, which he founded in 2006 in the promotion of “Liberal Arts Education” to university students through “Serving-to-Learn; Learning-to-Serve.” He has recently been appointed by Tsao’s Foundation of Singapore and National University of Singapore (NUS) to be the Advisor for their International Longevity Centre (ILC) from June 2011. In recognition of Prof Chan’s invaluable contributions to the community, he was appointed as Justice of Peace (JP) in 2001, and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the HKSAR Government in 2006.

Dr Audrey Weiner, President and CEO, Jewish Home Lifecare, USA

Audrey S. Weiner, DSW, MPH is President and CEO of the Jewish Home Lifecare in New York, which serves 12,000 elders each year through its post-acute rehabilitation, long term skilled nursing, senior housing, certified home health agency, adult day health care and care management services. She received her doctorate in Social Welfare Administration from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her Masters in Public Health from Yale University. She is the founding editor of the Journal of Social Work in Long-Term Care. She edited the first text on culture change in long-term care with Judah Ronch, PhD, and in 2013 edited Culture Change in Elder Care and Models and Pathways for Person-Centered Elder Care, both published by Health Professionals Press and edited with Judah Ronch. She is a board member and immediate past chairperson of LeadingAge, past chairperson and member of board of the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition, the New York area non-profit long term care provider association, and a member of the Board of Greater New York Hospital Association. She previously chaired the LeadingAge Ethics Commission and Talent Cabinet.

Mr Fabian Bigar, Director (NKEA Healthcare) & (NKRA Low Income Household) Performance Management and DeliveryUnit (PEMANDU), Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia

Mr. Fabian Bigar has been with PEMANDU since January 2010. His primary responsibilities include monitoring the progress of the Healthcare Entry Point Projects (EPP) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), facilitation and intervention where necessary and designing and conducting problem solving labs. Between August and December 2014, Fabian was seconded to the Tanzanian Government as the lead coordinator for the Big Results Now Healthcare Lab. In January 2015, Fabian helped in facilitating the Harvard School of Public Health’s Health Sector Strengthening Planning and Strategy Development Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. He was elevated to the position of Director and took on the additional portfolio of NKRA Low Income Household in May 2015. Prior to joining PEMANDU, he spent 15 years with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and served in various capacities including; health budget management; international relations; as well as dealing with trade related issues in health. He was part of the WHO Intergovernmental Working Group on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property from 2006 to 2008 and was involved in various trade in health related forums organized by both WHO and WTO. Fabian received his BSc. from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio and his Masters in Public Policy from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo.

Professor Hiroyuki Murata, CEO, Centre for Studies on Ageing Societies, Japan

Professor Hiro Murata is the most pioneer of active ageing business in Japan and an internationally recognised thought leader in ageing societies. He has worked with over 850 companies and contributed to develop various innovative products and services such as Curves Japan, the world’s largest fitness chain for women in Japan, Raku-Raku phone, the best-selling age-friendly mobile phone, and the first college-linked retirement community in Japan. He serves as Professor at Smart Ageing International Research Center (SAIRC) at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. Not only created the concept of “Smart Ageing” but also he contributed to establish the Smart Ageing Square, the ageing-business-on-campus with various industry partners and the Smart Ageing College, the intergenerational school on the campus. Both are the first implementation in Japanese national universities. He is an entrepreneur, business producer, gerontologist, and best-selling author of several books, including The Business of Aging: 10 Successful Strategies for a Diverse Market, The Successful Business of Ageing: Turning the super-aged society into business opportunities.

Mr John Collyns, Executive Director, Retirement Villages Association (NZ) Inc, New Zealand 

John Collyns was appointed Executive Director of the Retirement Villages Association (NZ) Inc (RVA) in October 2007. The RVA represents the interests of retirement village owners, developers and managers around New Zealand. John is responsible for setting the Association’s strategy and policy direction, as well as developing relationships with members, key stakeholders, central and local government agencies, and the media. Key stakeholders include the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment, the Retirement Commissioner, the Financial Markets Authority, the Office for Senior Citizens, District Health Boards, Business NZ, statutory supervisors, and consumer advocacy groups such as Age Concern and Grey Power, amongst others.

Prior to this appointment John was the Executive Director of the Bus and Coach Association (NZ) Incorporated, a position he had held since September 1994. John was a founding director of the Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation and he is a Fellow of the Australasian Society of Association Executives. He has a BA from Victoria University in Wellington.

Ms Mary Wood, Executive Director, Retirement Living Council, Australia

Mary Wood was appointed as the inaugural Executive Director of the Retirement Living Council in January 2013. Mary has a long history of working for government. She has been a Chief of Staff to a federal minister, a press secretary and a policy adviser, helping to deliver multi-million dollar subsidised housing programs as well as human services. She has worked on the creation and marketing of innovative schemes such as the National Rental Affordability Scheme, service delivery reforms at Medicare and Centrelink, and public housing policy. She has qualifications in law, public policy and company directorship, and worked as a project manager for an aged care provider before commencing work for the Retirement Living Council.

Ms Ninie WangFounder & CEOPinetree Senior Care Services LtdChina

In 2004 Ninie founded Pinetree Care Group (www.qskh.cn), focusing on business model innovation, professional service and talent development. Ninie has a BA in Economics from UIBE, China, and MBA from INSEAD in France and Singapore. She is a Young Global Leader and member of Global Agenda Council on Ageing by World Economic Forum. In 2014 she was awarded “Excellent Young Scholar” by China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.

Mr Wilfred Tan, Acting Chief Information Officer, Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), Integrated Health Information Systems Pte Ltd (IHiS), Singapore

Wilfred Tan is an IT professional with more than 20 years of International experience in consultancy services, operation, planning, programme and project executions, sales and strategy. He is presently the Acting CIO for the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), the agency that was formed as an independent corporate entity under MOH Holdings (MOHH) to look into the enhancement and integration of Long-Term Care sector in Singapore.

Prior to joining AIC, Wilfred had held various key positions in multi-national companies such as Executive Sales Director of NEC, Sales Director (Public and Healthcare) of Accenture and General Manager of NCS Hong Kong operation. He had also represented the companies in presenting innovative business solutions in Genève, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan. Wilfred holds a Bachelor Degree in Computing Science from Curtin University, Australia and a Master Degree in Software Engineering from the Institute of System Science, National University of Singapore.
