AISA 2018 School Heads Retreat

21st - 23rd Sept. 2018
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Why You Need to Attend:

For our 3rd AISA School Heads Retreat, we’ve designed something special. With the input of our new Leadership PL Advisory group (all school leaders themselves), we have devised the 2018 SHR programme to have less directed input and more opportunity for Heads of Schools to learn from each other, to network, and to share and reflect on their own expertise in a facilitated and productive way.

Learning Opportunities at the Retreat include:

Collaborative Enquiries exploring the issues you raise. What are some of the issues, challenges and questions you would value thinking through with your peers?
The following titles will be discussed during the workshop:
  • Mission Integrity: How do we demonstrate that we are living our mission?
  • How do we develop leaders and leadership from within the school?
  • How do we maximize teacher potential and deal with those that are “just not a good fit”?
  • Working with your board: How do we keep it positive and productive?
Innovative Practice Series sharing solutions to common challenges. What innovations, success stories, changes have you led at your school in the past 2 years that are relevant to your peers at the Retreat?
The following titles will be discussed during the workshop:
  • Professional learning for all members of the school community.
  • Paying teachers: an attempt to go beyond scale and step.
  • Refining learning and our why? As we move toward measuring our mission and vision.
  • Inspire, empower and transform: Building local capacity".
Future-focused Workshops exploring how Heads can shape the future of international education in our region and globally. What issues do Heads need to be aware of and respond to successfully as we shape the future of international education both in our region and globally?
The following titles will be discussed during the workshop:
  • Achieving Greater Diversity In Faculty and Leadership Teams.
  • It’s all about the learning: what will be best practice pedagogies of the future and how do we get there?
  • Staying relevant in the era of innovation.
  • Great teachers do not grow on trees: what will the future teacher recruitment pipeline be like?
Participants will be invited to facilitate these sessions as the theme for this retreat is "Using the expertise in the room."

Open Space Facilitation
to pose a question, raise a concern or seek like minds on issues that are relevant to you. What are the burning issues you want to discuss with your peers?

Networking with colleagues. How will conversations with your peers support you today and into the future?

For Heads new to Africa, it will be a chance to get to know your colleagues and experience first-hand the collegial and generous spirit that characterizes the AISA region. All of this will happen in the spectacular and relaxing surrounds of Victoria Falls where there will be ample time to relax as well.

The AISA SHR is exclusively for the Head of School. Please do not register any other team members for this event.
Key features of the AISA 2018 School Heads Retreat will include:
  • Engage in informal conversations and discussions with other Heads in our region to build professional networks, connections and peer support.
  • Discuss questions, issues, and challenges from your professional practice and seek advice from your peers in Collaborative Enquiry workshops.
  • Learn how your peers have achieved ambitious goals and aspirations and consider applications for your own practice and context in Innovative Practice workshops.
