ADHA 2015 CLL at the 92nd Annual Session

Community Service Day

Wednesday, June 17

8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Program Description:

Beginning at 8:00 a.m., participants will partake in a hands-on, interactive training session to become trained class facilitators in the educational curriculum, Tooth Wisdom: Get Smart About Your Mouth, a new, first-of-its-kind workshop empowering older adults with the skills and tools to take care of their mouths.

The curriculum is designed for dental hygienists to lead and engage in a unique way with older adults in the community by empowering them to be more confident in taking charge of their oral health.

The training will teach group facilitation skills, cultural competency, how to communicate with older adults, and the health education constructs that underpin the workshop.

Participants will then have lunch before departing to one of the community centers to deliver the workshop to an older adult audience.

At the sites, participants will be fulfilling one of the following roles:

  • Helping with set-up and welcoming older adults
  • Assisting with pre- and post- tests
  • Presenting
  • Demonstration with mouth models
  • Running focus groups.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be brought back to the Music City Center Convention Center, which will be around 4:00 p.m.

Participants will receive a training manual, t-shirt to wear, and a box lunch.
