IPV6 matters – to the business. The rapid growth of Internet-enabled devices and applications has led to a depletion of IPv4 addresses, and IPv6 is the answer. In this session, hear from John Curran, President and CEO of ARIN, on how to educate your organization about the importance of IPV6, and how to gain support for it.

 

IPv6 isn’t just conceptual. It is running in production networks and on the Internet today. Organizations have arrived at IPv6 through a variety of migration strategies and have used many IPv4 preservation techniques, too. Each technology and standard has its pros and cons. In this session, we’ll look at how and why A10 customers have implemented different IPv6 technologies with case studies from around the globe.

 

Many organizations get stalled with their IPv6 deployments because they focus on the entire organization's infrastructure. Instead, organizations should focus on the Internet perimeter as the starting point and take a streamlined approach to getting IPv6 communications to their Internet web applications. Virtually all of an organization's web applications run on dual-protocol-capable operating systems but are on IPv4-only networks, making most of these applications accessible only via IPv4. With an IPv6-capable server load balancer or Application Delivery Controller (ADC), an organization could configure an IPv6 VIP and an IPv4-only server farm. There are many IPv6-capable Server Load Balancers (SLBs) on the market. Use of an IPv6-capable reverse proxy server could help accelerate your IPv6 Internet edge deployment.

The Reality of IPv6: Implementation Strategies
During this interactive lunch discussion, we will discuss the real-world how, when and why of implementing IPv6 and IPv6 migration technologies.  What should you be doing now?

 

While tracking IPv4 address space using spreadsheets is manageable and even popular, the emergence of IPv6 will add a number of new challenges to this approach. Not simply because IPv6 addresses require hexadecimal notation, but because associated network services like DNS and DHCP must be configured with parameters consistent with the IPv6 address plan. Through case studies and real-world examples, this session will illustrate how disciplined IPv6 address management (IPAM) reduces errors and streamlines processes – and not only in the post-deployment phase. IPAM is instrumental throughout the IPv6 implementation cycle, from discovery and assessment to planning, deployment and ongoing management of a dual protocol IPv4-IPv6 network.

 

Before requesting IPv6 address assignments, organizations will need to assess the IPv6 space they need, define their network topology and hierarchy, determine how mobility will fit in, and more. In this session, learn the right steps and best practices for planning and designing your IPv6 addressing.

 

The IPv6 protocol includes improvements in some aspects of network security, reducing the risk of certain types of threats. However, there are important security considerations in the protocol that organizations need to consider before launching their IPv6 migration plan.
