Pre-meeting workshop – Thursday August 1, 2013 in Brisbane
“Laboratory Skills for Investigating Antibiotic Resistant Gram negative bacilli”
Overview: This one-day workshop immediately precedes the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Symposium on Antibiotic Resistant Gram Negative Superbugs. The workshop will give a practical hands-on guide to investigating mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and the molecular epidemiology of Gram negative bacilli. Laboratory skills that will be covered will include PCR and sequencing of resistance genes, molecular epidemiologic typing methods, organism identification by 16S rRNA sequencing and other molecular tools, mass spectrometry for resistance detection and assessment of clonality, and full genome sequencing. These skills will be illustrated using a practical case-based approach based on real outbreaks or multiply resistant clinical isolates.
Who should come?
Location:
Level 2/Ground Floor Seminar Room
University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR)
Building 71/918
Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Campus
Herston QLD 4029
Please note: The Workshop is at an additional charge to the Gram Negative "Superbugs" Meeting which will include morning tea, bus transfer to Surfers Paradise for those attending the Meeting and a working lunch. Places are limited for this workshop and can be booked upon regsitration. The workshop program is tentative and subject to change.
NOTE: All delegates must wear closed toe shoes for the lab tour.
There will be a bus transfer to The Hotel Grand Chancellor, Surfers Paradise for those who are also attending the Gram Negative "Superbugs" Meeting. Should you wish to join the bus transfer, please ensure you are ready and waiting outside the Seminar Room
at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR), Building 71/918, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Campus at 4.30pm sharp, Thursday 1 August 2013. Please note: The bus transfer is a one way ONLY transfer and will not be taking guests back to Brisbane after the Meeting.
