Matt Marshall - Founder and CEO of VentureBeat, Executive Producer of DEMO


     

Matt launched VentureBeat in September of 2006, with the realization that no one else was covering the entrepreneurial and tech innovation scene with the velocity or depth that he was. Prior to founding VentureBeat, he covered venture capital for the San Jose Mercury News from 2001 to 2006. In 2002, Matt was awarded "Journalist of the Year" by the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists. Prior to working at the Merc, he was a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal in Bonn, Germany from 1995 to 1998, and a writer for the Washington Post in 1994. Matt holds a PhD in Government and an MA in German and European Studies from Georgetown University. In addition to VentureBeat, Matt is also the Executive Producer of DEMO, the leading launchpad event for emerging technologies.

Jon Fortt - Technology Correspondent, CNBC


     

Jon Fortt joined CNBC as technology correspondent in July 2010, working from CNBC’s Silicon Valley Bureau. He covers the companies, startups and trends that are driving innovation in the industry. Fortt came to CNBC from Fortune magazine, where as a senior writer he covered both large technology companies such as Cisco, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft, and trends including cloud computing and the smartphone revolution. He appeared regularly on KNTV’s Press:Here technology show and analyzed tech trends on CNNi’s Quest Means Business. Along with a Fortune colleague, he conceptualized Techmate, a video series and column that appeared on Fortune.com and in the magazine’s technology section. Before joining Fortune in 2007, Fortt was a senior editor at Business 2.0 magazine where he produced the What Works section. From 1999 to 2006, Fortt wrote and edited at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley’s hometown newspaper. Fortt graduated from DePauw University as a Media Fellow, with a B.A. in English.

Aaron Levie, CEO & Co-Founder, Box

 

     
Aaron Levie is the CEO and co-founder of Box, which he originally created as a college business project with the goal of helping people easily access their information from any location. Box was launched from Aaron's dorm room in 2005 with the help of CFO Dylan Smith. He is the visionary behind Box's product and platform strategy, which is focused on incorporating the best of traditional content management with the most effective elements of social business software. He has spoken about content and collaboration tools at events such as Fortune Brainstorm Tech, Web 2.0, Dreamforce, Accenture Global Summit, South by Southwest, and Svase. Aaron studied business at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California before taking a leave of absence.

Brad Smith, CEO, Intuit


     
Brad Smith became Intuit’s president and chief executive officer in January 2008, culminating a five-year rise through the company where he successfully led several of its major businesses. Intuit is a leading provider of business and financial management solutions for small and mid-sized businesses, financial institutions, consumers and accounting professionals, and is consistently ranked as one of the most-admired software companies and best places to work. Before being named CEO, Smith was senior vice president and general manager of Intuit’s Small Business Division. Appointed to this position in May 2006, Smith was responsible for the company’s small business division which included the portfolio of QuickBooks, Quicken and Payroll products, serving 7 million small businesses. Before moving to the small business division, he led the company’s Consumer Tax Group in San Diego from March 2004 through May 2005. The group produces TurboTax, the nation’s leading consumer tax preparation software. Smith joined the company in February 2003 as the vice president and general manager of Intuit’s Accountant Central and Developer Network in Plano, Texas. Previously, he was senior vice president of marketing and business development at ADP. Smith also held various sales, marketing and general management positions with Pepsi, Seven-Up and Advo, Inc.
 

David Lawee, VP, Corporate Development, Google


     
As Vice President of corporate development, David manages a worldwide team responsible for all of the company's acquisitions and investments. Previously, David was Vice President of marketing, where he managed all of Google's consumer, advertiser and partner marketing, globally. David brings a unique blend of entrepreneurial, general management, and investment experience to his role. Before joining Google, David co-founded four start-ups, the most recent being Xfire, a fast growing social gaming service that was sold to Viacom in early 2006. Previously, David co-founded Mosaic Venture Partners, a leading Toronto-based venture capital firm. He also worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. David holds degrees in law and philosophy from McGill University and the University of Western Ontario respectively, as well as an MBA from University of Chicago.
 

Zach Nelson, President and CEO, NetSuite Inc.


       
Zach Nelson has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the high-tech industry, where he has held a variety of executive positions spanning marketing, sales, product development and business strategy with leading companies such as Oracle, Sun Microsystems, and McAfee/Network Associates. Nelson has been CEO of NetSuite since 2002. One of top 10 visionary CEOs in the Silicon Valley, Nelson led NetSuite's successful IPO in 2007. Under his leadership, NetSuite has become the leading provider of cloud computing business management software suites in the world. Nelson holds B.S. and M.A. degrees from Stanford University.

Mike Abbott - Partner, Digital Team, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers


       
Mike Abbott joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as a partner in 2011. He focuses on investments in the firm’s digital practice, helping entrepreneurs in the social, mobile and cloud computing sectors rapidly scale teams and ventures. Mike serves as an expert resource on enterprise infrastructure, cloud computing and “big data.” He also helps entrepreneurs win the race for talent in a hyper-competitive recruitment environment. An engineering leader, entrepreneur and investor, Mike led the building of innovative, high-performance applications and services at Twitter, Palm and Microsoft before he joined KPCB. Mike is also an expert in “big data” businesses, having founded Composite Software. Formerly the vice president of engineering at Twitter, Mike led the team to rebuild and solidify Twitter’s infrastructure. Before joining Twitter, Mike led the software development team at Palm that created HP/Palm’s next-generation webOS platform. Earlier in his career, Mike was the general manager at Microsoft for .NET online services, which became Azure. He was also co-founder of Passenger Inc. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. at the University of Washington.

Larry Augustin is CEO of SugarCRM, the leading provider of Open Source Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions. One of the group who coined the term "Open Source", he has written and spoken extensively on Open Source worldwide. Prior to SugarCRM, he spent five years as an angel investor and advisor to early stage technology companies including JBoss, XenSource, DeviceVM, Fonality, Hyperic, Pentaho, and SpringSource. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Appcelerator and DotNetNuke. From 2002 to 2004 he was a Venture Partner at Azure Capital Partners. In 1993 he founded VA Linux (now GeekNet, NASDAQ:LNUX), where he served as CEO until August 2002. While CEO he launched SourceForge.net and lead the company through an IPO in December 1999.

Sam Boonin - VP, Product Engagement, Zendesk 


     
Sam Boonin is VP of Product Engagement at Zendesk, where he leads a team that combines interaction design, product management and analytics to improve the overall product experience. Sam’s goal is to make Zendesk a great product to evaluate, configure, and constantly tweak, helping thousands of companies deliver great service to their customers.  Prior to Zendesk, Sam was VP of Products and Marketing at GoodData, a leading SaaS business intelligence provider, and has spent the last fifteen years guiding innovative technologies to market in startups and bigcos alike: in product leadership positions at Cisco, Blue Titan Software, AT&T and Microsoft.

 

Frank Chen - Partner, Andreessen Horowitz

 

             Frank is a partner at Andreessen Horowitz where he meets with entrepreneurs to evaluate investment opportunities, has a deep diligence on all post-term sheet investment opportunities (including declined opportunities), sources candidates for the talent network, and more. Prior to Andreessen Horowitz, Frank was VP of products at Opsware (formerly Loudcloud) where he helped build and sell enterprise software. Prior to that, he was director of client services at Loudcloud where he ran data center operations for name-brand customers including Fox Sports, Nike, Fandango, and Blockbuster. He also served as VP of products & UI design at Respond.com, served as director of product management at Netscape and was a product manager at Oracle where he worked on interactive television. Earlier in his career, Frank was also a technical writer for GO Corporation. Frank received his B.S. in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University.

Jeff Clavier - Managing Partner, SoftTech VC


     
Based in Palo Alto, California, Jean-Francois “Jeff” Clavier is the Founder and Managing Partner of SoftTech VC, one of the most active seed stage investors in Web 2.0 startups. Since 2004, Jeff has invested in close to 100 consumer internet startups (Fund I, Fund II, Fund III) in areas like social media, monetization, search, gaming or B2B/B2C web services. In September 2007, after successfully investing as a business angel, Jeff announced the formation of SoftTech VC II, L.P. a $15M seed fund backed by a mix of institutional and private investors to invest in 60+ consumer Internet companies over 3 years. Prior to founding SoftTech VC, Jeff spent more than 16 years in the enterprise software world as an entrepreneur, senior executive and venture capitalist. Throughout his career, he was exposed to global markets leading development teams in Europe and on Wall Street, designing products sold internationally and investing in software infrastructure startups across the U.S. and Europe. In 2000, Jeff became President of RVC Capital, the firm managing the Reuters Greenhouse Fund with $600M invested in 82 companies, including Yahoo!, Verisign, Phone.com and Infoseek. He joined the venture arm of Reuters from the company’s product development division, where he was leading a 250+ staff in Paris, London and New York, and was responsible for the Risk Management and Desktop products. Jeff joined Reuters through the acquisition of Effix Systems, a Paris-based startup company he helped develop in 1989 while still in school. Jeff was born, raised and educated in France, earning a MS in Computer Science and a research degree in Distributed Computing.

Michael Crandell - CEO, RightScale


     
Michael Crandell is the CEO and a founder of RightScale, where he provides the vision and direction for the company as it pioneers innovative ways to bring the power of cloud computing to any organization. Crandell is a frequent speaker at cloud computing industry conferences, and he has played a major role in helping establish and promote openness and transparency in the cloud market. Prior to RightScale, he served as CEO at several Internet Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) companies and as executive vice president at eFax.com. Crandell received his B.A. from Stanford University and completed graduate studies at Harvard University.

John Dillon - CEO, Engine Yard


    
John Dillon has over 20 years of experience in executive leadership positions and has delivered several successful exits as CEO of well-known technology companies including Salesforce.com and Hyperion as well as Navis, the leading provider of shipping logistics software. Prior to his CEO roles, John held sales management positions at Oracle and Arbor Software and was a systems engineer at EDS (Electronic Data Systems). John holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and began his career with a B.S. in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, serving for five years as an engineer in the nuclear submarine service.

David Friedberg - CEO, The Climate Corporation


     
Prior to founding The Climate Corporation (formerly WeatherBill) in 2006, David Friedberg was with Google, where he joined as one of the founding members of the company's Corporate Development team. David managed a number of strategic projects for Google, including identifying and leading several of Google's largest acquisitions. David also served as a Business Product Manager for AdWords—Google's primary revenue source. Before Google, David spent several years working in private equity and investment banking. He has invested in and advised dozens of companies in the technology industry. Earlier, David worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he led several projects as a mathematical programmer. He has a degree in Astrophysics from UC Berkeley.
 

Ross Fubini - Partner, Kapor Capital


     
Ross was the Co-Founder and a Board Member of Cubetree, a Gartner Visionary enterprise social collaboration company which is used by the Fortune 100 including SAP, Intuit, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. He currently serves as an advisor to Kapor Capital, Palantir Technology, Facebook Causes, and other early stage technology companies. From 2010-2011 Ross was a Vice President for SuccessFactors (NASDAQ:SFSF) which acquired his company CubeTree in 2010. Prior to that, Ross was Sr. Director of Engineering at Symantec, where he owned product development for Symantec/Brightmail Messaging Security anti-spam, anti-virus, and content filtering product lines serving 70,000 customers, protecting 100s of millions of email boxes, and delivering $300M+ revenue/year. Additionally Ross was a lead in M&A/partner selection including the integration of the IMLogic and TurnTide acquisitions; MessageLabs and Vontu partnerships. Before joining Symantec, Ross held technical leadership roles at BEA/Plumtree, TellMe Networks, and Netscape. Ross is also an active board member of the Level Playing Field Institute (LPFI), a Kapor Foundation-funded non-profit that promotes innovative approaches to fairness in education and the workplace. He is an avid triathlete, marathon runner, and Ironman competitor. He holds a B.S. in engineering and art from Carnegie Mellon University.
 

Chuck Ganapathi - Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Accel Partners


 
     
Chuck joined Accel Partners as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence in August 2011, from salesforce.com where he was responsible for the company’s social and mobile strategy. As Senior Vice President of Products, he led one of the largest product development efforts in salesforce.com’s history and built Chatter, the company’s most successful product release ever. During that time, Chuck championed and led the acquisition of two start-ups: Dimdim, a real-time collaboration platform, and GroupSwim, a community platform with semantic filtering technology. He also integrated the acquired technology and teams from two file sharing and collaboration start-ups, Koral and SlideAware. Prior to Chatter, Chuck ran salesforce.com’s flagship sales automation product, Sales Cloud, which constitutes the bulk of the company’s $2 billion annual revenue run rate. He joined salesforce.com in 2006 as Vice President of Product Marketing for CRM. Previously, he spent 6 years at Siebel Systems, where he was the founding product manager of their first internet application and fastest growing product line, Siebel eChannel. He also ran the company’s eCommerce and order management product line, which was formed through the acquisition of two product catalog and auction software startups, OnLink and OpenSite. Chuck has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from PSG Tech in India, a master’s in industrial engineering from Purdue University, and a master’s in product design and an MBA from Stanford University.
 

Tom Gillis - CEO, Bracket Computing

 

     
Tom Gillis is CEO of Bracket Computing, a company he founded in December 2011. Gillis started Bracket with a vision to re-imagine enterprise computing. Before starting Bracket, Gillis was VP/GM of the Security Technology Group at Cisco Systems. This Technology Group included the business units responsible for Cisco’s entire Network and Content Security product portfolio, including firewalls, IPS, VPN, and email security and web security gateways. Prior to Cisco, Tom was VP of Marketing and part if the founding team of IronPort Systems which was acquired by Cisco in 2007. Before that, he held the position of VP/GM at iBEAM Broadcasting, an Internet start up that wentpublic on NASDAQ. He has also worked at Silicon Graphics, the Boston Consulting Group, and Raytheon Corporation. Gillis received a BSEE from Tufts, an MSEEfrom Northwestern, and an MBA from Harvard.
 

Bill Gurley - General Partner, Benchmark Capital

             

     
Bill Gurley has spent over 10 years as a General Partner at Benchmark Capital. Prior to Benchmark, Bill was a partner with Hummer Winblad Venture Partners.  Before entering the venture capital business, Bill spent four years on Wall Street as a top-ranked research analyst, including three years at CS First Boston focusing on personal computer hardware and software. His research coverage included such companies as Dell, Compaq, and Microsoft, and he was the lead analyst on the Amazon IPO. David Gutelius - Chief Social Scientist, Jive Software

 
 
 
 
 
     
As Chief Social Scientist, David Gutelius is responsible for driving the enterprise social graph strategy and technology innovation at Jive. He joined Jive after his company, Proximal Labs, a startup focused on leveraging “big data” for enterprise social networks was acquired earlier this year. He was the founding CEO and led an elite team with expertise in semantic analysis, social analytics and machine learning at web-scale to make content more relevant matching the right data to the right person at the right time. Prior to Proximal Labs, David was the co-founder and CTO at Social Kinetics, a machine learning spin-out from SRI International. He additionally co-founded the Social Computing Group at SRI International’s Artificial Intelligence Center, and he served as Product Manager on the DARPA CALO project the largest machine learning project ever funded. David’s background is in behavioral economics with a focus on social network theory. He was previously a visting professor at Stanford University, and holds a Masters and PhD in economic history from Johns Hopkins.

Christine Herron - Director, Intel Capital


 
     
Christine Herron is a Director with Intel Capital. She is also a Venture Advisor at 500 Startups and an advisor to SSE Labs. Previously, Christine was a Principal with First Round Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm, where she worked with companies such as BillFloat, Double Verify, Get Satisfaction, Mint, and Xobni. As a Director at Omidyar Network, she developed the Media practice strategy and drove $15M in early-stage placements. Prior to Omidyar Network, Christine held operational roles with Mission Research, NetObjects, and Microsoft, and was the founder and CEO of Mercury2, a SaaS developer of international e-commerce applications. She started as an investor with Geocapital Partners, where she funded early Internet and network infrastructure businesses including Netcom and AXON Networks. Christine earned degrees from both Stanford University and Columbia University.
 

Jody Holtzman - Senior Vice President, Thought Leadership, AARP


 
     
Jody Holtzman has more than two decades of experience helping companies develop and implement competitive strategies and achieve their strategic market goals. At AARP he leads AARP's new Thought Leadership efforts which support the organization's new brand positioning around a focus on living not just aging and for people 50+ to live their best life. Previously, Jody led AARP's research, competitive intelligence and strategic analysis functions. A central focus of this research is to understand the needs, wants and preferences of AARP members and prospective members, their intent to join and renew their memberships, as well as their views regarding AARP's social mission and policy goals. Prior to that, Jody was AARP's first Director of Strategic Analysis and Intelligence where his team provided forward looking and actionable insight about AARP's external environment in support of senior management decision-making. Jody is a member of AARP's Leadership Team and Brand Council.
 

Solomon Hykes - Co-Founder & CEO, dotCloud, Inc


 
     
Solomon is the visionary behind dotCloud’s mission to deliver the power of cloud computing to all developers. Solomon has his roots in cloud computing and has worked in large-scale distributed Internet services for most of his professional career. A born entrepreneur, Solomon started his first business at age 14, as a technical consultant installing servers and setting up networks. He also served as a security consultant to French government agencies, providing insights on the implications of new technologies, and how to best adapt processes, tools and infrastructure to cope with threats posted by those technologies. Solomon has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the European Institute of Technology in Paris.


Sheila B. Jordan - SVP, Communication and Collaboration IT, Cisco Systems


 
 
 
 
 
     
Sheila Jordan is senior vice president of Communication and Collaboration IT at Cisco Systems, reporting to CIO Rebecca Jacoby. Sheila is responsible for delivering and integrating key IT services that touch Cisco’s global workforce.  Her goal is to drive productivity and a superior, holistic end-user experience for all employees through an integrated architectural approach. She oversees a worldwide team of more than 500 IT professionals. Within her purview are the following areas: Collaboration Platforms, Communications, Collaboration and Mobility Services, and User Experience and Support. In addition, Sheila was named by CIO Magazine as “One to Watch” in 2011. She joined Cisco from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where she was senior vice president of Destination Disney. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Central Florida State University and an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology.
 

Steve Jurvetson - Managing Director, Draper Fisher jurvetson (DFJ)


     
Steve is Managing Director of DFJ, a leading venture capital firm with affiliate offices around the world and $6B under management.  Internationally, DFJ was the main investor in Baidu and Skype. His current board positions include Tesla Motors, Synthetic Genomics, and SpaceX. Steve was the founding VC investor in Hotmail, NeoPhotonics, Interwoven, and Kana, and led DFJ’s investments in various other companies acquired for $12B. Prior to DFJ, he was an R&D Engineer at HP, where seven of his communications chip designs were fabricated. His prior technical experience also includes programming, product marketing, materials science research and computer design at HP, Apple, NeXT, the Center for Materials Research, and Mostek. At Stanford, he finished his BS Electrical Engineering in 2.5 years and graduated #1 in his class. Steve also received his MSEE and MBA from Stanford.

Joe has been with Google Ventures since 2009, and his primary areas of focus are mobile, gaming, and local services. Prior to Google Ventures, Joe was a two-time entrepreneur. In 1993, he co-founded Excite.com, an early Internet search engine, holding multiple positions in the company, including leadership roles in product, business development, and marketing. More recently, he co-founded JotSpot in 2004, a wiki company that was acquired by Google in 2006. While at Google, Joe had multiple product management roles including Blogger, Picasa, Sites, Friend Connect, and OpenSocial. In addition, Joe has been an active angel investor in multiple companies, including LinkedIn, Aardvark (sold to Google in 2010), Kongregate, and OpenCandy. Joe is also on the board of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF.org). Joe received a B.A. from Stanford University.

Jason Krikorian holds the title of General Partner, DCM. He is currently a board member of SigFig and Basis Science. Jason brings an entrepreneur’s perspective to DCM, having previously co-founded the digital media and device company Sling Media. Among its many accolades, Sling Media received an Emmy Award for the Slingbox.  At Sling Media, Jason held various positions including EVP of Business Development, EVP of Marketing, and CFO during the evolution of the company. The breadth of his responsibilities there reflects the extensive expertise required of an entrepreneur and exemplifies Jason's capacity to guide portfolio companies along in their development at DCM. Prior to co-founding Sling Media, Jason acted as Partner in id8 Group Holdings, Inc where he advised global leading companies on product and business strategy. Jason joined id8 Group after spending several years with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG).  Jason received B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and a M.B.A. and J.D. from the University of Virginia.


Aileen Lee - Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

     
Aileen Lee is a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers; she joined in 1999. Her primary area of focus is working with consumer-oriented digital companies. Aileen has worked closely with the teams at companies such as ShopKick, Zazzle, Bloom Energy, Miasole, Blue Nile (NASDAQ: Nile), Friendster (acquired by MOL Global), Good Technology (acquired by MOT), and Tellme (acquired by MSFT). She currently works with companies including Callaway Digital Arts, Offermatic, One Kings Lane, Plum District, Rent the Runway and RMG Networks (formerly Danoo), where she was founding CEO for two years. Prior to joining KPCB, Aileen worked at Gap Inc. in various operating roles. These included product management and marketing for Gap Online, as special assistant to Gap Inc.'s CEO, and in business development. She has also worked for Odwalla and for The North Face in brand and product marketing. Aileen began her career at Morgan Stanley in technology mergers & acquisitions.Aileen has a bachelor of science degree from MIT and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. She is also a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute.
 

Claire Lee - Head of Partnerships, Emerging Business Team, Microsoft Corporation

    
Claire moved to Silicon Valley in February 2011 to lead industry partnerships for the Emerging Business Team at Microsoft, engaging partners globally to support early stage software developers and startups. Claire formed part of the team that created the BizSpark program in November 2008, now with over 45,000 startups in 110 countries and 2,400 partners. BizSpark partnerships comprise leading incubators, accelerators, Government agencies, universities, entrepreneurship groups, foundations, technology community associations, banks, and organizations that enable and support early stage technology companies. Examples include HSBC and Startup Weekend. Before Microsoft, Claire worked with Compaq at the global distributor, Ingram Micro and with Siemens at Marconi Communications. Claire began her career as a graduate with IBM Ireland. Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, part of the UK Prime Minister’s Women’s Enterprise Taskforce 2007-2010 and recognized as an ‘Icon of Technology’ at the House of Commons, Claire is passionate about supporting entrepreneurship and represents Microsoft on the topics of early-stage financing, innovation, young enterprise and international trade.

Claire moved to Silicon Valley in February 2011 to lead industry partnerships for the Emerging Business Team at Microsoft, engaging partners globally to support early stage software developers and startups. Claire formed part of the team that created the BizSpark program in November 2008, now with over 45,000 startups in 110 countries and 2,400 partners. BizSpark partnerships comprise leading incubators, accelerators, Government agencies, universities, entrepreneurship groups, foundations, technology community associations, banks, and organizations that enable and support early stage technology companies. Examples include HSBC and Startup Weekend. Before Microsoft, Claire worked with Compaq at the global distributor, Ingram Micro and with Siemens at Marconi Communications. Claire began her career as a graduate with IBM Ireland. Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, part of the UK Prime Minister’s Women’s Enterprise Taskforce 2007-2010 and recognized as an ‘Icon of Technology’ at the House of Commons, Claire is passionate about supporting entrepreneurship and represents Microsoft on the topics of early-stage financing, innovation, young enterprise and international trade.
 

John Lilly - Partner, Greylock Partners


       John joined Greylock as a partner in 2011. Prior to Greylock, John was CEO of Mozilla, the organization behind Firefox, an open source Web browser used by more than 450 million people. John also co-founded Reactivity, an enterprise security infrastructure company acquired by Cisco in 2007, where he served as founding CEO and later CTO. Earlier in his career, John held positions on the executive team at Trilogy Software and as a Senior Scientist in Apple's research labs. John is currently on the Board of Directors of Citrus Lane, Clearslide, Code for America, Mozilla Corporation, and the Participatory Culture Foundation. He is a board observer at Tumblr, and led Greylock's investment in Dropbox. John holds a BS in Computer Systems Engineering and an MS in Computer Science with a focus on Human Computer Interaction, both from Stanford University. He is currently an adviser to the Stanford Technology Ventures Program as well as SSE Labs, an incubator at the University.
 

Daryll McDade - Platform Strategy and Evangelism, Microsoft Corporation & Executive Producer, Ctrl+Alt+Compete


       Daryll McDade and his team help early-stage companies (startups) be awesome and have a highly valuable relationship with Microsoft. Daryll is also the creator and Executive Producer of the documentary film Ctrl+Alt+Compete that that tells a story of the passion, fortitude and insanity that is bringing a startup to life. Daryll has been with Microsoft for 8 years in a number of evangelism, business development and marketing roles working with customers like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Seesmic, Starwood, Cablevision and Travelport.  He is also an advisor to a number of early stage companies in the consumer Internet space.  Prior to joining Microsoft, Daryll held business development, product strategy and product management roles at a couple of bootstrapped startups (one with a great exit, the other not so much) with AOL, Inc. and Onyx Software.
 

Jeff Mullen - Founder & CEO, Dynamics, Inc

 
       Jeff Mullen founded and seeded Dynamics in 2007. Under Mullen, Dynamics sold arguably the largest paid pilots for on-card technology in the history of banking and closed one of the largest Series A investment rounds in 2009 in payments ($5.7MM). Mullen is an inventor on over 150 pending and issued patents ranging from mainstream consumer electronics for Apple, Inc., to children’s electronic toys for Anderson Press. Mullen has won many of the world’s most prestigious international business plan competitions, including the Rice Business Plan Competition, Carnegie Mellon McGinnis Venture Competition, and the University of San Francisco Business Plan Competition. Mullen began his career at the prestigious law firm of Fish & Neave ('01-'07), where he was a patent attorney. Mullen’s practice covered a wide range of technologies including financial instruments, trading systems, nanotechnology, power systems, deep-sub micron transistor design, telecommunication protocols, Web 2.0 technologies, interactive toys, signal processing, interactive television, mobile devices, and analog circuitry. Mullen received a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon ('01), a JD at New York Law School, Evening Division ('05), and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business, where he was a James R. Swartz (co-founder of Accel) Entrepreneurial Fellow.
 

Bill Nguyen - Founder & CEO, Color Labs


     A serial entrepreneur, Bill has spearheaded the successes of seven technology startups. In 2009, Bill led the sale of Lala to Apple. Lala was the first full-service cloud music experience and the only online music service ever acquired by Apple. Prior to Lala, Bill founded SEVEN Networks. Under Nguyen's leadership, SEVEN achieved successful commercial deployments of its mobile email software with over 100 of the world's largest mobile operators. Prior to SEVEN, Bill founded Onebox, where he and his team redefined the unified-messaging market. Bill has been named to Fortune's 40 Under 40 list, MIT's Technology Review 100 and the World Economic Forum's Global Leaders of Tomorrow.

Peter Pham - Co-Founder & Partner, Science

 
 
     
Peter is a Co-Founder and Partner at Science, a tech studio in Santa Monica which in recent months have launched companies like Dollar Shave Club, Wittlebee, Meundies, DogVacay and Eventup.  Peter is a passionate entrepreneur and investor with  with 8 years in the enterprise hardware and software space.  Having success in building companies ranging from solid state storage to SAS businesses Peter then focused his time in the consumer internet space, building companies like Photobucket.  As Vice President of Business Development at Photobucket he was the fifth employee and was responsible for driving growth to 61M users and leading its $300M acquisition in 2007 to Fox Interactive Media, a division of News Corporation.  Peter then turned his energy in helping people save money as CEO of BillShrink from inception to their 1st Million users in a little over a year. Continuing the journey of building early stage companies Peter was the Co-Founder & President of Color exploring the future of mobile and social interactions through proximity.  Most recently he spent time as a 2nd time Entrepreneur In Residence at Trinity Ventures.

Shervin Pishevar joined Menlo Ventures as a Managing Partner in 2011 after a successful career as an entrepreneur and angel investor. His focus is on consumer technology investments, specifically in the gaming, mobile and social web industry sectors. Shervin works closely with portfolio companies Uber, Shaker, Warby Parker and Mr. Number, and was the driving force behind Menlo's investment in Tumblr. During his first few months at Menlo Ventures, Shervin helped launch the Menlo Talent Fund, a $20M seed fund that invests in innovative early stage deals within a 24 to 72 hour timeframe. Prior to joining Menlo Ventures, Shervin was the Chief Application Officer and General Manager at Mozilla Corporation.  Shervin is a graduate of the University of California (BA, Interdisciplinary Studies Field Major), an author of several US patents, and has been published in JAMA and Neuroscience Letters.

Sanghi was previously the Managing Director of U.S. venture activities for Motorola Mobility. Before Motorola, Sanghi was VP, Business Development at Ucentric Systems Inc. Sanghi also led Philips Electronics’ satellite set top box business in North America where he introduced the concept of DVR to the satellite TV market.

Dan is a General Partner at Trinity Ventures, a top tier VC dedicated to investing in early stage entrepreneurs. Dan founded Flurry, the leading user analytics platform for mobile applications. Prior to Flurry, Dan began his career as employee number two at Wily Technology (acquired by CA)where he built the first version of the company’s application performance management product and then helped sell it to many of Wily’s Fortune 500 clients. Dan also worked at SVB Capital where he made venture investments in software and Internet services companies. Dana Stalder - General Partner, Matrix Partners

                             Dana Stalder is a Silicon Valley based general partner at Matrix Partners, where he invests in early stage software and internet companies. Dana’s experience cuts across multiple disciplines including sales, marketing, finance, technology and product management at companies such as eBay, Netscape, PayPal and Respond.com. He has managed nimble ventures as well as 2,500-person teams. Dana joined Matrix in 2008 from PayPal, where he was a senior vice president and managed all business operations, including product, sales, marketing and technology. Matt Thompson - General Manager of Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft


                             As General Manager of Microsoft’s developer & platform evangelism efforts, Matt has the first hand opportunity to both observe and work with a number of Silicon Valley’s most unique technology startups. His time is split between working with this influential community of technologists as they adopt Microsoft technologies (including Microsoft's cloud offering, Windows Azure, and new phone platform, Windows Phone 7); advising a number of early stage startups; and working with Microsoft customers & partners as they implement solutions on top of the breadth of the Microsoft platform offerings.
