8:30 am - 9:15 amOpening Keynote: Finding Ways to Innovate in an Outsourced IT Model
Daniel Priest, VP & CIO, Toyota Financial Services
The past few years have been extremely tough ones for Toyota, from devastating natural disasters to financial woes, vehicle recalls and reputation damage. Yet while its parent company struggles, Toyota Financial Services (TFS) has logged in record profitability as it manages a global lending, leasing and insurance business with assets in excess of $81 billion. Keeping costs low with a highly outsourced IT model has worked well for TFS so far, but CIO Dan Priest is now making some strategic moves to dial back the company's reliance on third-parties. One of those changes is the creation of an inhouse Innovation Lab that is deepening IT/business relationships and speeding up pace of execution and project delivery. In this opening session, Dan will talk about fostering a climate of innovation in a company where more than 90% of IT is delivered by outsourcers and partners.

In order for IT to become a business influencer and game changer, the technology organization must transcend its “service provider” relationship with stakeholders and become a trusted business peer and partner. The task of guiding that relationship journey falls to the CIO and the senior IT leadership team. In this combination panel discussion and hands-on workshop session run by our CIO Executive Council, you'll take a short quiz to assess your own IT group's relationship with business leaders. Then with your own assessment in hand, you'll hear directly from a panel of Los Angeles area IT leaders about their own challenges, roadblocks and successes. Finally, the audience will take over the discussion in small groups to explore the panel’s ideas and identify further best practices.

11:15 am - 11:45 amThe CIO Collaboration Paradox
Phil Edholm, Vice President of Technology Strategy and Innovation, Avaya
Communications and collaboration are a major challenge for today’s CIOs, largely because the devices and user experiences tend to fall short of what enterprise workers need in easy-to-use tools to help them connect, communicate and collaborate at a moment’s notice. High-end telepresence solutions are too expensive for most companies. Low-tech document sharing only goes so far. Neither offer the increased productivity and process efficiency of seamless integration across video, instant messaging, screen and document sharing, email and web. In this industry expert session, you’ll hear about the changing face of business collaboration and how the directions emerging in this field can help CIOs fuel corporate innovation and growth.

1:15 pm - 2:00 pmBalancing Business Needs with the Chaos of Mobile Security
Jamil Farshchi, Senior Business Leader of Strategic Planning and Initiatives, Visa
For many CIOs today, the “short list” of approved mobile devices is fast becoming a long, complex line-up of everybody's favorite smartphone or tablet. Business users want their latest devices hooked up ASAP to corporate networks and applications, while corporate IT wants to manage risk and protect data without becoming a roadblock. What CIOs need to figure out fast is "where their business is trying to go, and how much risk the company culture will accept," says Jamil Farshchi, Senior Business Leader of Strategy, Planning and Initiatives at Visa. In this high-level expert session, Jamil will show how CIOs can create a mobile security strategy that will skip the technical jargon, communicates more effectively on risk profiles and focuses on what matters most to the business.

An increasingly mobile workforce, a growing influx of consumer devices at work and the rapid transition of cloud computing from buzzword to reality are all having a huge impact on IT's business value delivery in today's enterprise. These trends bring with them tensions in the CIO role around enablement vs. security, agility vs. integration, and business vs. IT in terms of technology resource control. In this engaging panel discussion with prominent IT leaders from LA-area industries, you’ll hear how they are managing these tensions as they consider "BYOT" (Bring Your Own Technology) pilots, move quickly to develop mobile strategies and find ways to respond more quickly to the demands of business in a hyper-connected online world.

3:45 pm - 4:45 pmClosing Keynote: Dealing with Big Data at Oversee.net
Debra Domeyer, Co-President & CTO, Oversee.net
Big Data is a big conundrum these days as organizations struggle to find value in the increasingly massive reams of information they gather, store and analyze. As one of the largest online advertising and marketing companies, Oversee.net owns nearly 1 million domains, manages another 9 million, and deals with data volumes of about 1.5 trillion bytes per month. In this closing keynote, Co-President and CTO Debra Domeyer will deliver a fascinating overview of big data from the business and technology perspectives of a longtime IT leader. She’ll talk about why CIOs must “buy into a ‘test and learn’ mind-set” and how experimentation with big data can become an essential component of company strategy.
