The official language of the Congress is English.

AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT
Speakers are kindly requested to hand in all material of their presentation (USB stick, CD-ROM) at least one hour before their scheduled presentation time. If a presentation is scheduled early in the morning, speakers are kindly requested to check their presentation the day before. If you are using embedded video clips in your presentation, please remember to submit video files separately.

BADGES
Delegates' badges will be available from the Congress secretariat. It is compulsory for all participants to wear their badges in the Congress venue and the exhibition area.

Internet access is generally available in the business centers in most of Athens Hotels. The Internet country code is

TELECOMMUNICATIONS
The international access code for Greece is +30. The outgoing code is 00 followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 001 for the USA or Canada, 0044 for the United Kingdom).

CLIMATE
The climate in Greece is typically Mediterranean with warm and dry summers and mild winters. The weather in Athens during the month of October usually ranges between 14-24 degrees Celsius. ELECTRICITY
Electricity is 220 V/50 Hz. Plugs are the standard continental (DIN) type with two round pins. Appliances from North America require a transformer and British ones an adaptor.

CURRENCY
The currency of Greece is Euro (€). Foreign currencies and travellers' cheques can be exchanged at all banks and exchange counters.

CREDIT CARDS
All major credit cards are accepted in almost all hotels, shops and restaurants. Stickers in the front windows will advise you as to which cards are accepted.

BANKS & ATMs
Banks are open from Monday to Thursday, 8:00-14:30 hrs and on Friday, 8:00-14:00 hrs; on Saturdays and Sundays they are closed. Central branches of some banks (Omonia Square, Syntagma Square) may be found open until 20:00 daily and from 10:00 to 16:30 on Saturdays. ATMs are widely available all over the country.

POST OFFICE
Post Offices Operating Hours: Monday to Friday from 08:00-14:00 hrs.
Central Post Offices are open from Monday to Friday from 08:00-20:00 hrs and on Saturday from 08:00-13:30 hrs.

SHOPPING IN ATHENS
The usual opening hours for shops are:
  • Monday, Wednesday and Saturday form 09:30 to 14:30
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:30 to 14:30 and from 17:30 to 20:30
  • Department stores and supermarkets are open from 09:00 to 20:00 (Monday to Friday) and from 09:00 to 18:00 (Saturday) and are closed on Sunday.
RESTAURANTS
Restaurants and Taverns are normally open for lunch from 12:30 to 16:00, for dinner from 19:00 to midnight. Fast food and souvlaki shops usually serve food all day long, and some of them stay open till late at night. Cafes and bars are open all day from about 8:00 until late at night.

WATER
Tap water is potable in Athens, while bottled water is widely available and can be purchased in kiosks, supermarkets convenience stores and hotels.
