Get Nearly $1000 in Post-Conference Web Design Courses, Free!+ more

These complimentary courses will build on what you learn at HIDC—including productive research methods and best practices for your web design process, proven ways to enhance the user experience, and tips for using common programming languages and design software—and help you develop your understanding even further.

As the team behind the HOW Interactive Design Conference, we think it is essential that the learning experience you have at the conference continues long after you return home. In fact, we consider it our responsibility.

To make sure that the investment you make in HIDC provides the most value and the best educational experience, we’re offering all HIDC attendees free access to the five most popular web design courses from HOW Design University.

HOW Design University is our online education platform, which has served more than 2,500 students since 2012. The five courses we’ve selected for you—normally priced at $199 each—represent the “best in class” from HOW Design University. Instructors Patrick McNeil, Brian Miller, Dave Holston and Jesse Friedman are all credentialed teachers in the field of design and web design as well as bestselling authors.

After you get home from HIDC—but before the inspiration and excitement of the conference can fade away—you’ll receive an exclusive code that gets you into these courses:

User Experience Design: Conceptualizing a Website

Brian D. Miller is an award-winning designer who specializes in branding for the Web and print. He’s also the author of Above the Fold, a bestselling book on the process of Web design. In this HOW U Workshop, he’ll teach you how to interpret information architecture documents, create mood boards and metaphors for a site, and prepare for the design phase of a web project.

Coding for Designers: HTML and CSS

Learn how to start writing HTML and CSS and develop a better understanding of these core web languages. Patrick McNeil created this class specifically with graphic designers in mind. Learn some basic combinations of HTML and CSS, and you'll start building common website layout elements. Patrick McNeil, the creator of Design Meltdown, is the content director for HOW Interactive Design and the author of the Web Designer's Idea Book series.

Managing a Web Design Project from Start to Finish

In this workshop, Dave Holston—a 25-year design management veteran—will teach you about the key research and planning phases that inform the online design process, and about project management tools and techniques that can create efficiencies for you as a manager. In the end, you’ll walk away with the ability to deliver a website that is strategically focused to attract, engage and convert visitors.

Advanced WordPress

WordPress has been embraced by developers and designers all over the world, and now powers nearly 20% of the internet. Join Web Developer, Professor at Johnson & Wales University and Neal Advertising Director of Web Development Jesse Friedman to learn WordPress skills that will take you from novice to expert. You’ll cover WordPress theming and industry best practices, learn how to develop WordPress template files and more.

Coding for Designers: JavaScript and jQuery

Instructor Patrick McNeil is a popular HOW Design Live speaker, and in this four-week course you'll find out why. You’ll learn JavaScript and jQuery—the stealthy web languages that power much of the functionality we see in action online today. Enjoy a complete immersion into what they are, how they work, and how you can use them.
