STATEMENT ON MALAYSIAN FLIGHT MH 17 

Friday, July 18, 2014 (Sydney):   It is with heavy hearts that the International  Indigenous Working Group on HIV and AIDS, the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organising Committee and delegates attending the International Indigenous Pre-Conference on HIV and AIDS express our sincere condolences to all people on Air Malaysia flight MH17, particularly to friends and colleagues who were on their way to Australia to attend the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne next week.
 
Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those lost in this tragedy.

The International Indigenous Pre-Conference on HIV & AIDS is a pre conference to the International AIDS conference to be held in Australia for the first time ever in 2014. The Pre-Conference is an IIWGHA (International Indigenous Working Group on HIV&AIDS) event, co-hosted by an Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organising Committee(AATSIOC).
 

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

AATSIOC would like to acknowledge the traditional owners’ of the land, the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We would like to pay our respects to our elders both past and present, and all Aboriginal people’s from whatever Aboriginal nation you may come from.

The Indigenous Pre-Conference has been accepted as an independent affiliated event of IAC 2014. 
The Pre-Conference is being funded and supported by the NSW Ministry of Health, The Australian Government Department of Health and the Government of Canada. Logistics of the conference are being organised by the ASHM Conference team

We encourage everyone interested in, affected by or working within the HIV Sector and wider Blood-Bourne Viruses within Indigenous Communities to attend the conference
