2013 TAPPI Linerboard Medium and Corrugated Box Manufacturing Course
Monday, April 15 - Tuesday, April 16, 2013
Neenah
United States

This course will help strengthen attendees’ understanding of the corrugating process, and linerboard and medium performance properties and manufacture. The course content is intended to help improve overall corrugating box performance and runnability. It is ideal for both corrugators and pulp and paper mill employees. The level of the two day course is introductory to intermediate.

Topics Include:

  • The Corrugated session (1/2 day) will cover how to achieve the strongest bond and highest quality combined board. Topics include (1) the equipment, (2) starch, (3) corrugated process technology, and (4) importance of linerboard & medium properties and runnability.
  • The Properties & Testing of Liner & Medium session (1/2 day) covers the tests, what they mean, and how the properties of the board affect the tests.
  • The P&P Mill Operations session (1 day) will cover the technology of the pulp and papermaking processes, and how they affect the quality, properties, tests, and runnability of the liner & medium.

The curriculum is packed with information. See the proposed Course Schedule

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successfully completing this course, you should be able to:

  1. Explain how Linerboard and Medium Properties and tests relate to the final box performance.

  2. Identify and describe what happens in the Corrugator, and some variables that affect the final product.

  3. Increase recognition of, on a mill wide basis, the effects of fiber raw materials, pulp mill and recycling processes, stock preparation, chemical additives, headbox and wet end operations, pressing and drying, calendering and size press operations on performance tests and properties.
