Bryan Clay is a father, philanthropist and a long-time Olympic athlete who earned a Gold Medal in the Decathlon at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. After already winning a Silver Medal in 2004, Bryan joined an exclusive group of American decathletes by earning the title of “World’s Greatest Athlete” with his 2008 win. A native of Hawaii, Bryan was deemed “Hawaii’s Hero” by local media and is still considered one of the state’s most recognizable athletes. Prior to his Olympic win, he founded The Bryan Clay Foundation in 2005 aimed at empowering today’s youth to take advantage of opportunities available to them and reach their full potential. Bryan also wrote “Redemption,” the story of his unlikely path to Olympic Gold that began with a fist-fighting, drug abusive, pre-suicidal kid with no faith.

Wojtek J. Chodzko-Zajko, PhD

Currently a professor of exercise science in the School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport at Kent State University, Wojtek J. Chodzko-Zajko, PhD, is editor of the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity and president of the International Society on Aging and Physical Activity. He served on the scientific advisory committee of the World Health Organization, which recently issued its guidelines for physical activity in older adults, and as chairperson of the Fifth World Congress on Physical Activity, Aging and Sports. Chodzko-Zajko has traveled to Korea, Iran, Oman, Japan, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, Hong Kong, and Israel to speak on topics related to aging and physical activity. This year, Chodzko-Zajko assumed the position of head of the department of kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dominique Adair, M.S., RD
Dominique Adair, M.S., RD, is well known for her work with the entertainment industry, athletes, and her contribution to cardiovascular and cadiometabolic wellness. She is a nutrition counselor, media consultant, certified fitness professional, certified Clinical Lipid Specialist, Tobacco Treatment Specialist and freelance health and nutrition writer. Adair serves as an advisor and on-air commentator to electronic and print media, develops curricula and texts, and sits on the advisory boards of several national fitness and wellness organizations. She recently partnered with Dr. Oz and ShareCare, making wellness and a healthy weight a realistic and accessible goal for hundreds of thousands of people. A Registered Dietitian, Adair earned her undergraduate degree at Barnard College/Columbia University and master’s degree in clinical nutrition from City University of New York, graduating from both school with phi beta kappa honors. After spending ten delightful years in Southern, CA, Adair recently returned to her native New York with her 12 -year old son and husband of 23 years.

 
Abbie Appel
Abbie Appel is an internationally recognized fitness educator and speaker. As a consultant for SPRI products and TRX, she specializes in developing unique fitness programs and in transforming basic movements into something fresh and exciting. Abbie is a Ryka brand-ambassador and contributes material to fitness publications, including Self, Shape, Prevention and IDEA Journal. She stars in numerous fitness videos and most recently was chosen by ECA as Best Female Presenter of 2013 and by Canadian Fitness Professionals as “Best New Presenter of 2012”.

 
William Baun, EPD, CWP, FAWHP
William B. Baun has 34 years of experience in worksite wellness and is the Wellness Officer at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, which was the first healthcare system and NCI-designated Cancer System to receive the CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation. In March of 2012, the Houston Business Journal named MD Anderson the Healthiest Employer in Houston in the 5,000 or more employees during their Healthiest Employers awards. He is President of the National Wellness Institute, and serves on the Board of the International Association Worksite Health Promotion, Houston Wellness Association, and CAN DO a childhood obesity community program. His latest article “What’s the Hard Return on Employee Wellness Program? The ROI data will surprise you, and the softer evidence may inspire you.” was published in the Harvard Business Review. His latest book, Healthy Women at Work was released by GlaxoSmithKline. He is a cancer survivor and his passion is wellness!

 
James Beauchemin
James works at The Ohio State University, Counseling and Consultation Services as a Senior Staff Therapist. He has been a practicing therapist since 2006 serving individuals, couples, and families with a wide variety of clinical needs. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist James worked extensively as a Health and Physical Education Teacher, as well as a fitness professional. James integrates Client-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Solution-Focused approaches in his work with clients. Additionally, he utilizes Motivational Interviewing techniques, as well as alternative therapeutic modalities such as Hypnotherapy and EMDR to support clients in facilitating proactive change. His professional interests include Mind-Body interventions, stress management, establishing healthy lifestyle trends, and performance enhancement for athletes.

 
Lawrence Biscontini MA

Lawrence Biscontini, MA, is an award-winning group fitness instructor who has been recognized worldwide for his innovative programming at clubs and spas including Equinox, 24 Hour Fitness, Gold's Gym International, Bally and Golden Door Spa of Puerto Rico. He was the first Mindful Movement Specialist to win multiple awards from ACE, IDEA & Inner IDEA, Can Fit Pro, and ECA, and currently serves as a senior fitness consultant for both ACE and Power Music®. As a nutritional counselor, Lawrence has created nutritional menus for spas from Manhattan to Mykonos, and has appeared on both CNN Headline News and LIVE! with Regis and Kelly. He is a Registered Yoga Alliance Teacher, an AFAA Certification Specialist and contributing author to industry magazines including AFAA's American Fitness, the IDEA Fitness Journal, and Spa Asia. Bob Calvin, MS, RD, CSSD, LD/N, CSCS
Currently, Bob works as a Performance Nutritionist for Athletes’ Performance in Pensacola, Florida, on the campus of the Andrew’s Institute. During his tenure at Athletes’ Performance, he has had the opportunity to coach, educate & motivate professional, collegiate, and high school athletes from a variety of sports, on 5 continents, through all aspects of performance nutrition. Prior to joining Athletes’ Performance, Bob worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M University where he also worked with a variety of athletes ranging from male football players to female equestrian riders.

 
Wojtek Chodzko-Zajko, PhD

Currently a professor and head of the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Wojtek J. Chodzko-Zajko, PhD, is president of the American Kinesiology Association. A well-respected expert on aging, he served as founding editor of the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, the first journal dedicated to the scientific study of exercise and physical activity in older adult populations, and continues to serve on editorial boards for numerous academic journals. Ellen Coleman, MA, MPH, RD
Ellen is a Registered Dietitian who also has a Master's degree in exercise physiology. She has many years of experience as a sports dietitian and has written several books in this area. Past chair of the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition dietetic practice group of the American Dietetic Association (SCAN) and is a board certified specialist in sports dietetics (CSSD).

 
Dr. Natalie Digate-Muth MD, MPH, RD
Natalie Digate Muth, MD, MPH, RD, is a community pediatrician, ACE senior health strategist and a registered dietitian widely recognized for her expertise in childhood obesity, nutrition and fitness. Aside from writing articles and book chapters for more than 50 publications, Natalie has also received praise for her book “Eat Your Vegetables! and Other Mistakes Parents Make: Redefining How to Raise Healthy Eaters” released in 2012. She has been featured as an expert on San Diego Living and ABC World News Now, and in several publications including The New York Times. Natalie holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and physiological sciences from UCLA, a Master of Public Health in nutrition from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She also holds multiple fitness certifications from ACE, ACSM and NSCA.


 
Chris Frankel
Chris Frankel, MS, is Head of Human Performance for TRX. A coach, trainer and educator for more than 25 years, Frankel has trained and consulted for collegiate and professional sports teams, the U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and U.S. Secret Service. Prior to working with TRX, Frankel served as instructor of record for undergraduate and graduate courses in the department of Health, Exercise and Sports Science at the University of New Mexico where he is currently completing his PhD in exercise physiology.He has published numerous fitness and training articles, co-authored a book chapter for the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and co-authored research articles in peer-reviewed journals. He presents nationally on topics related to training and human performance. His current area of concentration is functional conditioning with emphases on evaluation and training of high-intensity exercise, repeated sprint ability and the effect of external loading on energetics.

 
Chris Freytag
A nationally recognized health and wellness expert, Chris Freytag is an accomplished blogger, author and motivational speaker. Aside from holding ACE Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Health Coach Certifications, she has been training and teaching classes for more than 20 years. Chris is the author of Two Week Total Body Turnaround, Move to Lose, Shortcuts to Big Weight Loss and Choose This!, a cookbook of healthy recipes made with whole food. With a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Chris has written numerous articles on health and fitness and serves as a contributing editor for Prevention magazine. She has produced dozens of fitness DVDs including the popular 10lb Slimdown Xtreme available on QVC, and she serves as the ACE chairman of the board of directors. Chan Gannaway
Chan has been working in the Health Club industry for 17 years as a Personal Trainer, Personal Training Director, Master Presenter and Educator and National Fitness Director. He has also been an approved education provider for ACE Fitness and NASM since 2001. When not at his corporate office desk or teaching new franchisees the product, he travels around the country training and educating new Orangetheory Fitness staff on the science, program design and delivery of what NY Times article says is "The Best One Hour Workout in the Country". Most recently, he presented his 19th training certification for Orangetheory Fitness in Hollywood, Florida.

 
Andrew Garrison, MS CPT

Andrew Garrison, MS, CPT, is a 27-year veteran of the Bernalillo County Government in Albuquerque, N.M., and a 10-year ACE Personal Trainer. Andrew serves as the principal health and wellness administrator throughout Bernalillo County, delivering wellness education to more than 2,600 full-time employees. In the realm of public safety, he validated the Metropolitan Detention Center physical fitness test battery for corrections officers and serves as a trainer in the cadet academy. In the Sheriff's Office, he developed and delivers a wellness education course that has been accredited by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. Andrew’s unique expansion of the exercise and diet equation explores the profound worlds of psychology and neuroscience, and drives home tactical wellness skills from private sector strategic planning principles. A former Division I football player, Andrew holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of New Mexico in physical education and Spanish, as well as a master’s degree in sports administration. He currently serves as a subject-matter expert for ACE.


 
Craig Horswill, Ph. D
Craig is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) where he teaches and oversees research by students. Craig joined the UIC faculty in 2011 after working for 16 years in industry as a scientist and manager with The Gatorade Company (Gatorade Sports Science Institute). Craig also spent eight years conducting research in pediatrics at Columbus Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University (1988-1994), and teaching and conducting research in the Human Performance Lab at Ball State University (1986-88). Craig earned a PhD in exercise physiology from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 1986. He did his undergrad in natural sciences/chemistry and an MS in exercise physiology at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Craig’s general research interests include examining the effects of hydration status, nutrition, and dietary supplements on high-intensity intermittent exercise performance; pediatric exercise physiology; and methodologies for assessing body composition.
 
Donna Hutchinson
Donna is the founder and co-owner of On The Edge Fitness Educators. She is a strong advocate for the development of fitness leaders into community leaders who can then inspire people to add movement into their every day life. Donna travels extensively, consulting and speaking about business growth and development. She shows how individuals and organizations can improve their business by creating innovative and creative work environments for employees to take charge and reach their full potential. Born in Montreal, Donna now resides in Vancouver in the beautiful Province of British Columbia where she shares her passion for life with her dog Bailey.

 
Mark P. Kelly Ph.D., CSCS
As an ACE exercise physiologist, Mark P. Kelly, Ph.D., CSCS, produces workshops, presentations and articles aimed at teaching fitness professionals how to bridge the gap between science and application. With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, he has been involved in exercise science as author, presenter, trainer and athlete. He has been teaching sciences in universities, performing research, and physiological assessments in exercise science for more than 20 years. Aside from being a nationally ranked duathlete, Mark has written several research studies published by ACSM, NSCA and FASEB. He holds a doctorate from the University of New Orleans.
 

 
Andi Kwapien
Andi Kwapien is a National Trainer with Healthways, providing instructor training for the SilverSneakers Fitness Program since 1999. Specializing in older adult fitness, Andi provides continuing education in fall prevention and balance training techniques and functional fitness for activities of daily living. She holds a bachelor’s degree in community health education, sports & fitness and holds fitness certifications with ACE, AFAA, AEA, and other specialty group programs. Andi is currently working towards her ACE Advanced Health and Fitness Specialist Certification.

 
Ben Le Vesconte
Called 'the World's best barefoot running coach' by Chris McDougall, author Born to run and 'Exceptional' by Harvard Professor Daniel Lieberman, Lee Saxby is at the forefront of applied barefoot science. Lee has been coaching movement for 20 years and has spent the last 10 years coaching barefoot technique to help runners overcome injury and increase performance. Ben Le Vesconte is Lee Saxby’s protégé. Ben has been learning intensely from Lee since 2009. Having undertaken a 3 year apprenticeship Ben has now coached hundreds of personal trainers, medical professionals and runners of all ages, transitioning them safely to injury free, skillful barefoot technique. Ben co-developed the Barefoot Movement Science Online Module and delivers 1 Day Running Technique Instructor courses and learn the skill of barefoot running days in the UK, Europe and USA.

 
Michael Mantell Ph. D.
Michael R. Mantell, Ph.D., earned his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania after completing his master’s degree in clinical psychology at Hahnemnann Medical College, where he wrote his thesis on the psychological aspects of obesity. He coaches world-class athletes and fitness enthusiasts for mental and behavioral performance enhancement. Michael serves as a ACE senior fitness consultant for behavioral sciences, chief behavioral scientist for Anytime Fitness, and as a member of the faculty at Equinox Fitness Training Institute. He also works as a national community ambassador for Experience Life Magazine's health initiative and appears weekly on San Diego's CW channel 6. Aside from writing two best-selling books, Michael is a consultant to Total Gym and Les Mills International and a contributing author for IHRSA. He is a member of the Sports Medicine Team at the Sporting Club of San Diego, specializing in fitness behavioral science. Michael provides opinion, commentary and analysis in print and broadcast media throughout the world.
 

 
Jessica Matthews MS, E-RYT

Jessica Matthews, MS, E-RYT, wears many hats in the fitness industry, most notably with her work as an ACE exercise physiologist, a noted media spokesperson and fitness blogger. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Miramar College, where she teaches courses within the Department of Exercise Science, Health and Nutrition. Aside from holding both ACE Personal Trainer and ACE Group Fitness Instructor certifications, Jessica is also an experienced registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. Jessica has been featured as a fitness expert on CNN and by various publications including Shape Magazine, Self and Oxygen. She holds a bachelor’s degree in PE teacher education from Coastal Carolina University and a master’s degree in physical education from Canisius College.


 
Parker McCarthy
Parker J. McCarthy is a Senior Fitness Account Manager for Healthways and the SilverSneakers Fitness program. Receiving a degree from Southern Illinois in Community Health Education Parker has always been passionate about getting people healthy. In 2008 Parker started as a Health Coach and is now working with fitness professionals to help provide classes for seniors in locations outside of a traditional gym. Dianne McCaughey, Ph.D.
Dianne McCaughey, PhD, is an award-winning fitness specialist with more than 30 years of experience in personal training, group exercise and coaching. She is an international publisher, speaker, author, consultant, master trainer and presenter who has been practicing and teaching the ways of the Medical Health Expert for decades. Dianne’s passion is being a personal growth and team-building seminar facilitator. Some of her previous clients include Hewlett Packard and the United Nations. Her first self-help book, “Y-U-R, Your Universal Reality,” provides insight on how to understand and heal many aspects of people’s true selves. Her goal for her industry is to inspire professionals to create a fully integrated system to help patients, members and clients achieve optimal well-being.
 
Dan McDonogh
Dan McDonogh is one of the most globally recognized personalities in the fitness industry today. His passion for health and fitness spans 15 years and his programs, workshops and lectures have influenced thousands across the globe. Dan is the senior manager of Group Training & Development at TRX based in San Francisco, Calif. Most recently, he was awarded the IDEA Group Fitness Instructor of the Year for 2012. He is also a Livestrong Leader for California, where he supports and provides outreach for the Livestrong Foundation.

 
Chris McGrath
Chris McGrath is the founder of Movement First, a New York City-based, health and fitness education, consulting, and training organization. Drawing on more than 20 years of fitness and coaching experience, Chris specializes in a variety of training modalities including sports performance, injury prevention, post-rehabilitation, and lifestyle and wellness coaching. He has successfully established himself as an international fitness expert and has presented and consulted for some of the most successful fitness organizations in the world including ACE, Functional Movement Systems, TRX, Reebok, EA Sports Active and numerous others. Chris holds a master’s degree in exercise science, a bachelor’s degree in health education and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY.
 

 
Dina Mijacevic

Dina Mijacevic, PhD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Kinesiology at Washington State University and mentors undergraduate and graduate students interested in fitness, personal training, strength and conditioning, and professional certifications with ACE, ACSM and NSCA. She also teaches movement philosophy, fitness and wellness, human motor development, and strength training. Prior to teaching at WSU, Dina worked for the University of Idaho Wellness Program, where she taught group fitness and trained clients with various needs. Her research focuses on sport philosophy and phenomenology, and how lived experiences impact sport and exercise participation and retention. A former Division I track and field collegiate athlete, Dina recently published her first book, “Where Soul Meets Body: It’s Not Just a Workout.” She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Idaho State University, a master’s degree in recreation and leadership, and a doctorate in sport pedagogy.


 
Valorie Ness

Valorie Ness, CEO of Catalyst Fitness in Atlanta, holds personal training certifications through ACE, NSCA and NASM. In addition to more than 15 years of experience in the industry, she was recently voted the 2013 PFP Trainer of the Year. She serves as a Master Trainer for ACE and Red Cord, and is currently pursuing an additional certification through PTA Global. In addition to being a nationally recognized speaker and educator on health and wellness, Valorie enjoys working with clients who have mobility conditions and various diseases including multiple sclerosis, breast cancer, Parkinson’s and diabetes. As a competitive athlete in practically every sport, she also invests much of her time training athletes. Valorie holds a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition with a minor in athletic coaching from Minnesota States University.


 
Brian Nunez
Brian Nunez is the owner and creator of the FNS Training Center in Santa Clara, CA which is based on his philosophy, Fitness Never Sleeps. He has created a unique training center which combines the customization of one on one training harnessed with group energy and support. With his wonderful team, they focus on training the whole athlete and person. From Yoga, chiropractic care, goal coaching, vision training, nutritional counseling, and performance training, the FNS training center has become the most quickly growing facility in the the Bay area, training everyone from professionals to the everyday athletes. Rochelle Rice, M.A
Rochelle Rice, MA is the President of In Fitness & In Health in New York City. She is a nationally recognized speaker, author and educator for the plus-size population and the author of Real Fitness for Real Women. Rochelle earned her Master’s Degree at NYU specializing in her Plus-Size Exercise Program. She is an advance Somatic Experience Practitioner and a graduate of the CHRIS ® Technique and has been working passionately with the plus population since 1997. Jonathan Ross
Jonathan Ross is the two-time recipient of Personal Trainer of the Year awards (2010 IDEA & 2006 ACE), has served as Discovery Health Fitness Expert. He hosts the Discovery Health series “Everyday Fitness,” and is an accomplished author of Abs Revealed, a modern, intelligent approach to training the abdominals. Phil Ross

A fitness enthusiast and combat arts competitor since the mid-70s, Phil Ross is an internationally known instructor in martial arts, kettlebell training, self-defense, wrestling and a variety of other sports. He has successfully competed on a national level since 1979 in forums hosted by NAGA, AAU, ABA and WAKO. In 1988, he opened his Martial Arts and Fitness Academy and began coaching champions and athletes in martial arts, wrestling, triathlons, volleyball, football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, football, and track and field. In addition to being a member of the Martial Arts hall of Fame, Phil served as a coach in the UFC for four years and as a matchmaker for the UCC professional MMA Fight League. Phil operates S.W.A.T. kettlebell-based training at his facility and provides off-site workshops and seminars. He has also developed the No. 1 Rated S.A.V.E.™ Video Series, the Self Defense Fitness System, produced a Top 10-Rated kettlebell video, and has appeared in numerous publications for his expertise.

Michele Stanten
Walking coach Michele Stanten is the author of Firm Up in 3 Weeks and Walk Off Weight, co-author of Walk Your Butt Off, and creator of mywalkingcoach.com. As the former Fitness Director of Prevention magazine, she created a marathon walking program and coached thousands of readers to walk full and half marathons. Michele has also created walking programs for Avon and ACE and is a member of the Every Body Walk! Collaborative. She is also an ACE board member and certified group fitness instructor.

 
Nancey Tsai, M.D.
Nancey Trevanian Tsai, M.D. is Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) having commenced her training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Louisiana State University and completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabiliation at Stanford University. She has been an ACE-certified Personal Trainer and fitness advocate since 1996.

 
Anthony J. Wall
As ACE director of professional education, Anthony J. Wall oversees the development, quality assurance and strategic focus of the organization’s continuing education programs. With more than 15 years of experience in the industry, he has created internationally-recognized training programs and high-caliber educational materials for several academic and government organizations. Prior to joining ACE, Anthony was the national personal training manager for Les Mills in New Zealand. There, he created and directed education programs, and managed training practices and policies organization-wide. Anthony has also managed fitness club operations, and assisted in the promotion of sports and fitness events. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Demontfort University in Bedfordshire, England, and a master’s degree in exercise physiology from San Diego State University in California. An avid sprinter, Anthony lives in Poway, Calif., with his wife and two daughters.
 

 
Keith Wheeler, Ph.D, FACSM
Keith is divisional director Global Performance Nutrition, Research, Development, & Scientific Affairs for Abbott Nutrition. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in life science from Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio. He earned both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from The Ohio State University. Keith is a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of The American Society for Nutrition. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance for Youth Sports. He is a frequent speaker on sports nutrition and clinical nutrition to health professionals. He has more than 25 publications to his credit in the areas of clinical nutrition and nutrition as it relates to athletic performance.

Dr. Wilson is an assistant professor and director of the human performance & sports nutrition laboratory in the department of health sciences and human performance at the University of Tampa, Tampa Fl. Dr. Wilson has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and published abstracts on sports nutrition, supplementation, and resistance training in athletic and clinical situations. His research has covered both the cellular and molecular responses to supplementation and nutrition, as well as the whole body changes in muscle size, strength, and power.

 
Vonda Wright, MD, MS

Vonda Wright, MD, is a practicing orthopedic surgeon and internationally recognized authority on active aging and mobility. She specializes in sports medicine and is one of the few female orthopedic surgeons in the United States. Vonda is the founding director of Performance and Research Initiative for Masters Athletes (PRIMA), and CEO and founder of UmuvU: Moving You to Your Best Life. In addition to her practice, Vonda serves as the only orthopaedic surgeon on the board for the Dr. Oz show and Sharecare.com. She regularly appears as an expert on The Doctors, ABC, CNN, CBS and NBC, and she’s been featured in Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, U.S. News & World Report, Maxim, Prevention, Fitness, MORE, Runner’s World, Best Life, Esquire, O, The Oprah Magazine and Arthritis Today.
