Tuscany is a region in central Italy with an area of about 23,000 square kilometres (8,900 square miles) and a population of about 3.9 million inhabitants . The regional capital is Florence (Firenze).

Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, artistic legacy, and its influence on high culture. It is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and has been home to many figures influential in the history of art and science, and contains well-known museums such as the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace. Tuscany produces wines, including Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino. Having a strong linguistic and cultural identity, it is sometimes considered "a nation within a nation".

Tuscany is a popular destination in Italy; the main tourist spots are Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Versilia, Maremma and Chianti. The village of Castiglione della Pescaia is the most visited seaside destination in the region, with seaside tourism accounting for approximately 40% of tourist arrivals. Additionally, Siena, Lucca, the Chianti region, Versilia and Val d'Orcia are also internationally renowned and particularly popular spots among travellers.

Seven Tuscan localities have been designated World Heritage Sites: the historic centre of Florence (1982); the Cathedral square of Pisa (1987); the historical centre of San Gimignano (1990); the historical centre of Siena (1995); the historical centre of Pienza (1996); the Val d'Orcia (2004), and the Medici Villas and Gardens (2013). Tuscany has over 120 protected nature reserves, making Tuscany and its capital Florence popular tourist destinations that attract millions of tourists every year. In 2012, the city of Florence was the world's 89th most visited city, with 1.834 million arrivals.

PISA

Enjoy a breath-taking view of the Piazza dei Miracoli with its bright white marble architecture: the Baptistery, the Romanesque style Cathedral, the Monumental Cemetery and the world famous Leaning Tower. You've seen it in picture books and on the walls of your favourite Italian restaurant. But nothing can prepare you for the amazing Tower of Pisa up close!
Our guide will give you fun facts and share some of the tower's secrets before you skip the line and ascend the Leaning Tower itself to enjoy a very unique perspective on the square below.
After the tour, we will enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant with typical Tuscan delicacies.



 

SIENA

Siena, a little Tuscan gem worth discovering, is world renowned for its Palio horse race. Participants will be immersed in the Medieval atmosphere of the city while walking through the perfectly kept old streets and alleys. The tour includes a visit of the magnificent Cathedral of Siena, which hosts some of the most important monuments of the European artistic panorama. Lunch in a typical restaurant will follow afterwards.



LUCA AND ITS VILLAS

The city of Lucca is a splendid artistic jewel, full of Romanesque churches, Medieval towers and houses and 16th and 17th century palaces. It is completely encircled walls dating back to the 16th century. The surrounding villas, which are set in beautiful gardens, are well worth a visit: The Villa Reale di Marlia, with its splendid 17th century Baroque garden, was refurbished in the 19th century by Elisa Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon. The Villa Torrigiani which, more than any other, exemplifies the relationship which can exist between Architecture and Nature. And finally the Villa Mansi, built in the 16th century, set in an ancient park of English design. Lunch will be provided at Villa Mansi.



WINE TASTING AND LUNCH IN CHIANTI

Once in Florence, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy a real wine experience in the Chiantishire!
We can suggest either a best-selling, widely known tour in a historic location (Verrazzano Castle, where the famous navigator was born in 1485) or a private visit of a brand new cellar of one of the most important wine making family of the Tuscan tradition (Antinori).
Participants will enjoy a guided tour of the cellars, where excellent Chianti wine is kept in the  traditional oak barrels.  A special selection of the best wines will be offered to our guests. Lunch with organic delicacies will follow afterwards.
