ASJA 2020 Annual Writers Conference

ASJA's 49th Annual Writers Conference

The Independent Writer’s Best Friend

ASJA’s 2020 Annual Conference will offer writers an extraordinary opportunity to navigate the world of independent journalism. “Our job is to help you survive and thrive as freelance writers and authors,” says conference chair Randy Dotinga, a freelance writer and former ASJA president. “More than ever before, we’re dedicated to introducing you to editors, teaching you valuable skills, and helping you fight back against the threats facing us today.”

The conference is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, and Monday, April 20, at the same New York City location as the 2019 conference -- New York Marriott Downtown in the heart of Lower Manhattan's Financial District.

Both days are open to members and the public. But as always, membership has its privileges: Dozens of agents and editors will be on hand to meet one-on-one with ASJA members at Client Connections, and members will be able to take advantage of our intimate, extended-length Mastermind sessions.

We’re planning more than 50 writing workshops, panel discussions, training sessions and other events. The keynote speaker will be a familiar face to ASJA members: journalist and tech maven Sree Sreenivasan. He will explore how our top 2020 ASJA Writing Award winners harness the power of storytelling. Don’t worry: Sree will also be on hand for his hugely popular annual tech session!

“We will give you the tools to tell stories that must be told and embrace opportunities in the new world of freelance journalism,” says freelance writer Kristine Hansen, associate conference chair. “We hope our sessions inspire you to pivot your way toward further success."
