Luis Ginocchio Specialist in agricultural business and sustainable food systems, FAO Consultant, Perú

Luis Ginocchio is a formal member of the Board of Directors of APEGA since 2013, and he was a formal Minister of Agriculture between the period of 2011 and 2012 in Peru. He is the head of the Agricultural Technology, INCAGRO (MINAG), in which he has supervised 400 business plans related to innovation and technology. He is also a formal FAO consultant for the NADHALI project and the Healthy and Sustainable Food Programme.

Mr Ginocchio has worked with the Peruvian Gastronomy Society -APEGA- leading the Gastronomic Agrifood Chain project, which promotes the aim of the agricultural value chain within consumers. He also has been organizing a different events for agricultural producers and small devices in the food industry since the last six years in Lima. Besides that, he leads the design and the operation for online business platforms for agribusiness, consumers and traders across the country.

Mr Ginocchio has also leaded seven different projects, implementing the quality of services within the wholesale markets. The most remarkable projects was, 'Casera', in which he has worked together with 800 fruit and vegetable traders from 65 wholesale markets within 14 districts of the Metropolitan Lima.

Mr Ginocchio holds an MBA from the IPADE Business School (Mexico City), in which he is a guest lecturer since 2011. He has also given lessons at the Pontifical Catholic University, Lima about Technology and Innovation Management and Bio-Business Implementation.

He is a co-author of several work cases about food and globalization that are well-discussed topics within executives in this industry.

 
 
 
Donald J. Darnall Executive Director of the Maryland Food Center Authority (the “MFCA”) since 1985.

Dr. Darnall has been a member of the World Union of Wholesale Markets, an International Fresh Food Association, since 1989 and has continued as a member of its Board of Directors since 1990. Dr. Darnall was elected Vice-Chairman in 2004 and held the position of Chairman from 2006 to 2008. He was re-elected to the position of Vice Chairman again in 2015 and began serving again as Chairman in May of 2016 for another two-year term.

He is a long-standing member of the U.S. National Association of Produce Market Managers; United Fresh Produce Association; and Produce for Better Health Foundation.As Executive Director, Dr. Darnall oversees the 400-acre Maryland Wholesale Food Center, including the operation of the Maryland Wholesale Produce Market, the Maryland Wholesale Seafood Market, the development of the Maryland Market Center, and the Rock Hall Clam House, an Eastern Shore waterside marine focused facility.

The current counselor of the State Council (appointed by Premier Wen Jiabao in August 2003), researcher of the Rural Economic Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, consultant of the Central Committee of Agriculture and Forestry of the Jiusan Society and vice-chairman of the National Organic Agricultural Industry Alliance. He was a member of the 11th Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, director of the Central Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, CPPCC member of the 10th Beijing Political Consultative Conference, a special inspector of the 3rd and 4th National Ministry of Supervision vice-president of China Association for the Promotion of Village Development and vice-president of the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation (CAPIAC).
 
Liu Zhiren has been engaged in the comparative study of the rural economy between mainland China and overseas agricultural industry for a long time. From the early 1980s to the early 1990s, he served as a researcher at the former Rural Development Research Center of the State Council (in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Rural Policy Research Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China). He has been a senior visiting scholar to Japan for three times and is well-known as a rural economist returned from overseas. His main research areas are rural revitalization, international agricultural trade, farmers and rural organizations, organic agriculture, modern agriculture and new rural construction, and East Asian agriculture. 
 
Liu Zhiren participated in the whole process of rural reform in China in the late 1970s and acted as the consultor for decision-making. In October 1992, he was named a special contribution expert of the State Council and received special government allowance. He has always adhered to the principle of fine research at the grassroots level in agriculture and rural areas and concurrently served as a visiting professor at several universities and research institutions. During his position of 17-year State Council counselor, Liu Zhiren has put forward many valuable policy advice and countermeasures for China's economic and social development, especially the status of changing agriculture, rural areas and farmers.

During 25 years of professional activity, João Tiago Carapau has developed several activities linked to the agro-food supply chain, more particularly related to the horticultural, olive oil and food processed markets in Portugal and abroad.

As part of the technical work and the coordination and management functions developed at SIMAB, João Tiago Carapau has had the opportunity to work in this area, since 1995, with producers, processing operators, wholesale agents, retail companies and consumers. Supporting directly the Portuguese fruit, vegetables and flowers production commercialized through the wholesale and retail markets and the major modern distribution chains, and promoting distribution channels and commercial and marketing actions to export fruit and vegetables, olive oil and Portuguese food processed through various destinations in Europe and around the world.

Between 1995 and 2019, João Tiago Carapau has participated in SIMAB and in other consulting firms, in Portugal and abroad, in designing, installation and training processes and projects related to wholesale markets as well as in rehabilitation and modernization retail markets projects. He was also, for 10 years, the external coordinator of the agro-food commercial and marketing department in the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (fruit and vegetables and olive oil). At the same time, he was a visiting university lecturer at Egas Moniz Universitiy in Lisbon, for Nutrition and Food Engineering course, responsible for Agro-Food Economics and Agro-Industrial Management disciplines.

The close approach and connection to the production, commercialization and consumption contexts - and with an integrated and articulated vision of the institutional, technical and operational supply chain - allows to develop an updated and dynamic intervention in this sector, namely in SIMAB internationalization consulting activity (in partnership with WUWM) in countries like Cape Verde, China and Kenya.

Since 1995, João Tiago Carapau has participated in several national and international projects. He has worked with and in countries like Portugal, Angola, Algeria, Brazil, Cape Verde, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Kenya, Morocco, Qatar, Spain, Tunisia, United States and Vietnam.

After working in SIMAB between 1995 and 2001 with regular contacts with several European and non-European countries, he was partner of two agro-food consulting companies, with projects in Portugal and abroad. Between 2008 and 2013 was the international director of Parque EXPO (Portuguese public company) and since 2013 co-founder and managing partner at WE CONSULTANTS, a territorial development consultancy firm.
