Harvesting Partnerships is a half-day conference focused on top-tier educational programming. The event begins with a keynote luncheon and the Lillie Knox Investment Award presentation. Following the luncheon, there's a networking break, dessert bar, and Kendra Scott pop-up shop. The afternoon is dedicated to Women’s Business Enterprise led roundtable discussions on business themes such as marketing, legal, human resources and more! The event concludes with a networking reception.

Complimentary self-parking

Enter through the Conference Center corridor (to your left when facing the building) and you'll immediately see our check in table.

Keynote Luncheon

With the exception of a few sponsored tables, seating is open. During the luncheon, we'll enjoy a plated meal and hear from Michael Sorrell - President of Paul Quinn College who will share his insights on building partnerships and having an entrepreneurial spirit. View his bio below.

Lillie Knox Raffle and Competition

The amount of funds available for the Lillie Knox Investment Award* is dependent on member donations. At the event, we kick off fundraising for the next year by selling raffle tickets. All proceeds go the Lillie Knox Investment Fund.

During the luncheon, the table with the most number of donors wins mini bottles of champagne to take home. In the case of a tie, the table with the highest donation total wins.

Raffle tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20.

  • 2 admissions to the WBCS 2020 Parade of Stars Awards Gala
  • $200 to Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse
  • $250 to any sports game, concert, theater performance, or suite on EventFindersUSA.com

*The Lillie Knox Investment Award is a cash prize of up to $20,000, exclusively available to WBCS Women's Business Enterprises, to help further business growth. Current members, in good standing, are welcome to apply annually for consideration.

While the application deadline has passed for 2019, you can learn more here.

Kendra Scott Pop-Up Shop

Kendra Scott will have new arrivals and best selling jewelry pieces and home goods available for purchase. All items are discounted 10% and 10% of sales goes back to WBCS.

WBE Led Roundtable Discussions

Sponsored by Anderson Asphalt & Concrete Paving

In an effort to bring more visibility to the wealth of skills our WBEs provide, we're offering WBE led roundtable discussions centered on business themes.

How It Works

There are roundtables of 8 seats. One seat is for the WBE host. The other seats are for participants (women-owned businesses and corporations alike) interested in learning about that table's theme. The host will share her experience on the theme and what has worked well, then open the table to questions.

Once registered for Harvesting Partnerships, there is no additional sign up required to participate in the discussions. Seating is open on a first come, first served basis.

WBE hosts stay at their table. Participants rotate and have the opportunity to visit a total of four tables.

Each discussion is 20 minutes followed by a 5 minute rotation.

1:45 – 2:05 …. Discussion 1
2:05 – 2:10 … Transition
2:10 – 2:30 … Discussion 2

2:30 – 2:35 … Transition
2:35 – 2:55 … Discussion 3

2:55 – 3:00 … Transition

3:00 – 3:20 … Discussion 4

Many thanks to our discussion hosts!

Michael Sorrell
Paul Quinn College

Dr. Michael J. Sorrell is the longest-serving President in the 147-year history of Paul Quinn College. During his 12 years of leadership, Paul Quinn has become a national movement for its efforts to remake all of higher education to become more responsive to student and societal needs.

Under his leadership, Paul Quinn has gone from an institution on the verge of collapse to one that is now nationally renowned for its innovative approach to higher education. Among the College’s accomplishments during President Sorrell’s 12-year tenure are the following: transforming the football field into the WE over Me Farm in order to battle the food desert conditions of the community surrounding the campus; becoming the first federally-recognized Urban Work College; implementing a business casual dress code; winning the HBCU of the Year, HBCU Male President of the Year three times, and re-writing all of the institution’s fundraising records.

Michael received his J.D. and M.A. in Public Policy from Duke University and his Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. While in law school, he was one of the founding members of the Journal of Gender Law & Policy and served as the Vice President of the Duke Bar Association. He is a product of the small, liberal arts college tradition, having graduated from Oberlin College with a B.A. in Government. While at Oberlin, he served as Secretary-Treasurer of his senior class, was a two-time captain of the men’s varsity basketball team, and graduated as the school’s fifth all-time leading scorer.

Michael is one of the most decorated college presidents in America. He was recently named to Fortune Magazine’s list of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders and Washington Monthly Magazine identified him as one of America’s 10 Most Innovative College Presidents.

While President Sorrell has won many awards throughout his career, the honor that has meant the most to him was being selected as the “Father of the Year” for the City of Dallas in 2016. President Sorrell is married to the former Natalie Jenkins who is an alumna of Spelman College and the University of Pennsylvania. They have two wonderful children, Michael Augustus and Sage Louise-Sinclair.
