Skills for the Future

Tuesday, 29 October 2019 | The Midland, Manchester

The AELP Autumn Conference 2019 takes place when we could be facing an almost unprecedented period of political uncertainty or a settled outcome to Brexit which allows the government to make further funding decisions on its domestic priorities.

AELP members will be hoping that we will have some good news by then which delivers on the new Prime Minister’s promise that apprenticeships and technical education should be “properly funded”. Throughout 2019, providers have been reporting that their non-levy funding allocations are woefully short for meeting employer demand for apprenticeships and in the meantime the ESFA is pressing ahead with its plans to move the non-levy paying employers on to the Apprenticeship Service. How the latter can be achieved successfully without certainty over a sustainable programme budget could be the key question at the conference.

Kindly sponsored by City & Guilds, the Autumn Conference will offer an opportunity to take stock of the devolved start of the Adult Education Budget and look ahead at the Combined Authorities further plans for the devolution of skills programmes in England. Delegates will also hear the latest about the roll-out of the National Retraining Scheme.

As AELP gears up to launch its ‘Good to Great’ support programme for providers, the continued challenge of delivering high quality training against restricted funding is bound to be up for debate.

In the fabulous surroundings of The Midland in Manchester, we expect again a top line-up of expert speakers in a series of ‘on topic’ plenary sessions and a great set of exhibitors will be on hand to show off their latest products and services. It’s another great event to insert in your diary now.
