MORO 2020

WELCOME TO FINLAND AND MORO 2020!

LocalTapiola, in conjunction with ICMIF, is honored to invite you to the 2020 Meeting of Reinsurance Officials (MORO), hosted by our organisation in our Espoo office. We are based just 15 minutes from the city centre of Helsinki, one the vibrant capital cities of the Nordic countries.

LocalTapiola group is ranked number two in the Finnish non-life insurance market. I am also delighted to tell you that mutual and cooperatively-owned insurance companies in Finland have more than 80 % market share in terms of non-life insurance business. LocalTapiola can trace its roots back to 1763 and we are pleased to add the 2020 MORO to the events we have experienced as the LocalTapiola group of 21 non-life companies and one life company.

MORO is always a great forum in which to discuss current topics concerning reinsurance professionals but also to meet peers and professionals working in reinsurance. It is our pleasure to provide the conference venue for the 2020 MORO where reinsurance professionals from ICMIF member companies can come to discuss and exchange ideas relating to the theme for this event “Mapping the future of reinsurance”. Some of you may have heard of the high level of IT initiatives in Finland, including an annual global SLUSH event for start-ups which takes place in Finland. The same spirit of innovation and forward-looking mentality is expressed in the theme for the 2020 MORO so Finland is definitely a good place for us to meet.

Finland has always been at a crossroads in terms of the East and the West in Europe. The first border was drawn between Russia and Sweden in 1329 and it also become the border between the catholic and orthodox churches. The Helsinki metropolitan area today, with its 1,1 million inhabitants, is an interesting mixture of various historical periods and influences coming from the East, West and South. We hope that you will have the possibility to extend your stay and enjoy the city and its surroundings and so add more to your MORO experience. We also hope that you will join us for the Farewell Dinner on the last day of the conference as it will give you the opportunity to see the second biggest sea fortress in Europe.

Construction of the fortress started in the 18th century and it is one of the few UNESCO world heritage sites in Finland and a beautiful and interesting place to visit. I look forward to welcoming you in Espoo and Helsinki in June 2020.
