Karen Adriaanse

FE and Skills Specialist

Karen was an HMI for Ofsted from 2007 to 2016, having previously worked for the Adult Learning Inspectorate and the Training Standards Council as a full-time inspector. She held the post of Ofsted’s Special Adviser for Further Education and Skills from 2012 to 2016. This involved: developing inspection frameworks and handbooks in FE and skills; training inspectors on revised inspection methodology; and analysing inspection findings for Ofsted and Annual Reports and thematic reviews. As an inspector, she led inspections in providers, independent training providers, employer providers general FE colleges, local authority providers and prisons, having previously taught and/or managed in these contexts for 20 years. Since leaving Ofsted, Karen has been a National Leader of Governance and was involved in developing the Code of Good Governance for independent training providers.
   

Chris Jeffery MBE

Christine Jeffery MBE – Has 31 years’ experience in the sector covering a wide range of leadership roles; initially as MD and major shareholder of Academy of Training, an ITP based primarily in Devon. Chris managed the acquisition of SPA Training in 2008, a small company with a national footprint, delivering full cost recovery courses for the hospitality sector.

Sold the company in 2010 to a large corporate company based in the US and worked for them as their Strategy and Policy Advisor for 5 years. She came back to the SW as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of Skills Group, recently resigning after 3 years.

Chris served 12 years on the AELP board, the only board member to be voted to the board from both categories; retired in February 2019. Chris has represented the AELP board and ITP’s in many areas such as ETF Board, LSIS Council and currently as Chair of the T-Level Special Interest Group.
 

Kirsty Young

Chief Executive, Parkhouse Bell

Kirsty has over 20 years’ experience supporting organisations across a range of commercial and public sectors to build world-class leadership teams. Kirsty works closely alongside Chief Executives and HR Directors, partnering with them to help them realise their talent strategies and achieve their strategic plans.

Kirsty is passionate about young people fulfilling their potential and in addition to her Parkhouse Bell role, she provides advice and support to Kloodle; an employability software tool used by colleges of FE to help their students to recognise their academic achievements in the context of future employability skills and share these achievements with potential future employers. Kirsty is also Governor of Bridge College, one of the UK’s leading Colleges of FE for young adults with learning disabilities and Chairs their HR sub-committee.
