Overview

This one day workshop will explore the assessment requirements for Level 1 and Level 2 Functional mathematics. The content is designed to support staff who are preparing learners for final assessment in Functional mathematics at Level 1 and 2 in order to be confident with the enhanced requirements for the final assessment process and ensure that learners are provided with the best level of preparation.
 
Content will look at:
  • the enhanced skill and knowledge assessment requirements for the Level 1 and Level 2 reformed Functional Skills mathematics;
  • understand the enhanced expectations for problem solving;
  • understand how to manage the non-calculator aspect of development;
  • consider different approaches for developing the required level of competence with learners;
  • consider approaches to check learner competence and prepare them for final assessment;
  • recognise when learners are ready for final assessment and be able to demonstrate the skills required consistently; 
  • understand how to analyse testing data and examiner reports and use the information effectively to inform learner support and preparation.
Target Audience
 
Tutors/ Trainers/ Teachers/ Practitioners delivering Functional Skills in mathematics who feel that they need greater knowledge, understanding and personal development/ guidance in order to be able to confidently prepare learners for successful final assessment with the reformed Functional mathematics at Level 1 and Level 2.
 
Delegates would typically be employed within organisations that deliver Functional Skills mathematics to Apprentices through integrated or discrete programmes, in one to one or group situations.
 
Delegates will typically be vocational tutors who support integrated Functional Skills or dedicated Functional Skills tutors who deliver Functional Skills through discrete sessions.
