Course Description:

The course is designed for youth (ages 14-18) beginning to write poetry for the first time, or who have been introduced to poetry and want to learn more. Students will participate in a two-week course of three-hour workshops. A theme will extend through the two weeks of Memorizing Ourselves- The Poems of Our Memories. Over the course of the two weeks, students will learn about key elements of poetry, various poetic techniques, read various poets and their writings, and discuss the crucial role of memory in writing their own poems. Students will have opportunities to write their own poems, workshop them, and share them at the end the course term. The class will be held Saturday, March 9 and Saturday, March 16th from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The class is open to bilingual writers in Spanish. The class will conclude with a public reading of their work in front of their peers, family, friends, and guests.
