ESX Announces OpenXChange Panel Representing Allegion, IFTTT, Honeywell and SkyBell

Bold New Perspectives, the Industry's Future Discussed

May 3, 2017 – Today, ESX announced the panelists for the OpenXChange Breakfast set for Wednesday, June 14 in Nashville, TN. Appropriately titled "The Changing Competitive Landscape," the panel is sponsored by Qolsys and will bring together four visionary leaders from Honeywell, Allegion, SkyBell and IFTTT. This interactive panel discussion will shed light on emerging trends in the electronic security industry and disruptive technologies in business operations.

This year, ESX has invited Scott Harkins, Vice President of Honeywell Connected Home; Robert C. Martens, Futurist and Vice President of Strategy & Partnerships at Allegion; Andrew Thomas, Co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer at SkyBell; and Justin Wong, Vice President of Business Development at IFTTT.

"I am a lifelong member of the security world," says Harkins. "I understand the business models and everyday business challenges — and also recognize that market trends are changing consumer dynamics and thus changing the security landscape."

Harkins will address the proliferation of startups and new business models that are targeting the Pro security industries RMR streams.

Attendees will have an opportunity to hear fresh new perspectives from the group of panelists, with advice on finding new ways to adapt and evolve in the fast-changing and competitive landscape of the electronic security and life safety industry.

"Enhanced design is something that electronic security and life safety companies should boldly embrace," says Martens. "Enhanced design is the idea of incorporating new technology into the aesthetic and functional design of a project — creating opportunities to make the home safer, more efficient and more convenient."

Martens plans to give attendees new perspectives into voice and mobile experiences, such as augmented and virtual reality, privacy and security, and enhanced design as a way of delivering more to your clients.

"So many folks in home security are missing the boat on the smart home wave," says Thomas. "They're often times scared of change, or unaware of why it's compelling to customers. They see it as a threat, instead of an opportunity. It's going to happen regardless, so they should embrace it and benefit from the shift."

Thomas plans to address camera-based monitoring, crime prevention through artificial intelligence and the mentality of dealers and providers who are avoiding the smart home trend.

"Connectivity is now just table stakes: it's clear that users expect more from these devices and their apps," says Wong. "It's not enough to have a security system that's connected to the Internet — it needs to use that connection to allow customization, new use cases, and new functionality."

This panel will be moderated by ESX Chairman George De Marco, allowing for structure and balance. ESX is grateful to Qolsys for sponsoring this event, as well as our Media Sponsor, Security Dealer & Integrator magazine.

ESX will take place June 13-16 at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn. To celebrate its 10th year, ESX will offer unprecedented registration discounts, expanding the opportunity for even more electronic security and life safety professionals to experience the event. The show’s premium pass is currently offered at $299 (a savings of $500). Prices will increase at the show.
