For many states, alarm company licensing is not new, yet there is much confusion on where and when it applies, and how enforcement policies are imposed. For consumers that want installation assistance or professionally monitoring services for DIY systems, the misperception deepens, whether purchased through Amazon, SimpliSafe, T-Mobile, Best Buy or others. How will states and municipalities handle licensing and its enforcement as the latest go-to-market strategies evolve, whether for the residential or commercial systems? Should the industry participate in reinforcing existing licensing, and consider creating stronger licensing legislation?
You’ll want to hear or voice your opinion on unlicensed activity and solutions with your colleagues from around the country. In this session, you’ll hear a robust discussion on:
• Does licensing really matter to the consumer?
• Why should licensing matter to the Industry?
• Why is one major state redefining its stance on qualified managers and the alarm company having a physical presence?
• Should the industry partner with state agencies to impose tougher regulations through higher fees?
• Why is licensing enforcement difficult?
What is a CounterPoint Forum vs. a traditional education session? These open, interactive sessions bring industry professionals together to explore a multitude of views that exist in the security industry — discussing opposing views freely and passionately.

In addition, Greater Alarm was named one of the INC. 500 fastest growing private companies in America for three consecutive years and was recognized as one of the leading custom electronics integrators in the United States by Custom Electronics Pro (CEPRO) magazine.
George is a published author of numerous industry publications and blogs, and continues to participate in industry conferences and events as a speaker and moderator. He received the President’s Award and Sara E. Jackson Award from ESA and a lifetime achievement award from the California Alarm Association for his industry contributions. George also was appointed by the Governor of California as a board member for the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).
George is managing partner for DECO Ventures and the ESX Chairman.

Bart has a long history of giving time to the Alarm Industry, Past NBFAA(ESA) President he also served on these industry committees: NBFAA (ESA) Executive and Government Relations Committees, CSAA(TMA) & SIA Standards Committees. He has served on the Board of Directors of AIREF, CSAA(TMA) and SIA, where he represents the interests of the NBFAA(ESA).
Bart has been honored with the “2002 Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year Award”, “A Lifetime Achievement Award, For Exceptional Service to the Alarm Industry”. The Weinstock Award is the highest Award presented by the NBFAA(ESA), the nation’s oldest and largest association for alarm companies.

Kristi Jennings

Kristi has been in the security industry for over 20 years with a versatile career, known professionally as a jack-of-all-trades. She serves as Vice President of ESC Central Inc in Birmingham and Operations Manager for Electronic Supply Company of its seven locations throughout the southeast. Managing a company that provides wholesale monitoring and one that is a wholesale distributor has given Kristi a unique perspective over the years. She uses this viewpoint to assist independent dealers in many ways from beginning their business, retaining and assisting in the upkeep of state required licensing, instructing courses to provide continuing education, and locating and implementing new technologies.
Kristi has served throughout her time in the industry in various positions including President of the Alabama Alarm Association, chairperson of industry committees and sitting on the Alabama Electronic Security Board of Licensure. She served as a national central station trainer for many years and has contributed to several users groups for the partners utilized by ESC Central. Kristi has assisted on a government level, lobbying and writing legislation to maintain laws to protect both the consumers and the integrity of the industry.
