AAAS STPF is a significant opportunity with a high-paying stipend ($80,000 - $105,000 yearly) and excellent career prospects.  

ASU-affiliated applicants make up a good portion of the awardees each year.  So, applicants have an especially good chance.

Presentation:
The presenter is Darshan Karwat (professor in SFIS, Polytechnic, and AAAS STPF alum).  The content of his presentation was put together by Jessica Soule, the Engagement Director for STPF at AAAS, specifically for this info session at ASU.  After the general presentation, there will be a Q&A panel. 


About AAAS STPF:
The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF) program has a mission to connect science with policy and foster a network of science and engineering leaders who understand government and policymaking, and are prepared to develop and execute solutions to address societal challenges. STPF provides opportunities to outstanding scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking and contribute their knowledge and analytical skills in the policy realm. Fellows serve year-long assignments in the federal government and represent a broad range of backgrounds, disciplines, and career stages.



Target Audience:
  • Doctoral graduate students (or Master's in Engineering) who are interested in pursuing a distinguished fellowship and/or a career with the federal government after they graduate.  

    • Students graduating in 2019 or 2020 should be especially interested in attending, but any student who wants to learn more about post-graduation career options will benefit.

  • Postdocs and faculty are also welcome to attend and are eligible applicants


    Note: Fellows represent the spectrum of career stages – from recent doctoral graduates, to postdocs, faculty on sabbatical, and retired scientists.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Doctoral level science degree (or a Master's in engineering)
  • AAAS seeks candidates from a broad array of backgrounds and a diversity of geographic, disciplinary, gender, and ethnic perspectives as well as disability status. 

Stipend Amount & Benefits:

  • $80,000 to $105,000 per year
