Giving Hope: Fundraising in the Perfect Organisation
Presentation/workshop to help fundraisers,
and other For-Purpose organisation leaders, create more engaged, collaborative
and effective teams, which break down silos and deliver greater outcomes and
impact for their organisations’ missions. Peter will also cover case studies from his book ‘Giving Hope’; interviews he conducted in 2017 with top Australian and international charitable organisations about the current state of their business operations, structure, strategic plans, culture, and processes. Peter will cover concepts of Emotional Fundraising, Donor Life-Time-Value and the Integral organisational theory, to demonstrate how more agile, competitive and effective organisations can attract and sustain contributors to ensure they deliver greater impact.

Stewardship: Navigating the Journey
We all know stewardship is critical and
have “official stewardship matrices” galore, but when was the last time you
audited your plan? Are you ready for the
inevitable hiccups, roadblocks, and occasional force majeure?
Managing internal and external expectations on
what stewardship is supposed to look like and achieve (and cost!) can be
tricky, but worth it. Susan will share a few examples of when stewardship
derailed…and what happened next.

The growing importance of bequests in your
fundraising strategy
A HSBC study
revealed that more than two thirds of Australian retirees plan to leave an
average inheritance in excess of $635,000. However, the Australian Bureau of
Statistics estimates that between 2023 and 2029 there will be more people in
relationships living without children than families with kids. That means that
without a new generation to pass their wealth to, increasing numbers of
childless people will be searching for new ways to build their legacy. As such,
bequest campaigning will prove more and more valuable for charities that are
facing increasing competition in the fundraising market.
In this presentation, Ruth MacKay will speak about the growing importance of bequests, and reveal a number of valuable approaches charities can take to address the challenges that bequest fundraising presents. She will also speak about how to integrate bequests into your overall fundraising strategy and identify what you can do to implement an effective bequest fundraising plan.

Making Digital Fundraising Work
In this
fast-paced session, learn how to make your donation pages and online
fundraising work harder for you, raising more money and growing your donor
acquisition and retention. We’ll look at best practice case studies from around
the world and here in Australia on online optimisation and marketing
automation.
You’ll take away tips
and techniques to optimise your digital fundraising on any scale and budget.
Plus – what to do when it all goes wrong! | Meredith Dwyer (Director, HomeMade Digital Australia) | Fundraising Change Leadership This session throws the spotlight on you, the fundraising practitioner, how you are perceived, how you perceive yourself, and you how frame your identity as a fundraising professional. Research and experience tell us that fundraising still remains a mystery in many organisations, especially at executive and Board level. And fundraisers continue to struggle for recognition, influence and even respect! So, what's the problem - and even more importantly - what can you do about it? Put simply, the answer lies in fundraising change leadership. | Peter Dalton (Principal, fundraisingfutures) | Learning to love your database (no matter how much it hates you)
Databases are one of the most important tools for a fundraiser and yet, they often don’t work as we would like them to or they simply are no longer up to the task. Making the decision to change databases is a challenge. It is something many of us often think about, but few have the courage to do. Learn what’s involved in bringing your fundraising to the 21st century as a self-confessed nerd talks you through the process involved in breaking up with your old database. Along the way, Lauren will explore the complex and differing needs of fundraising teams: including mass participation events, annual giving, major gifts and bequests. As well as the one thing they all teams have in common – being under resourced. This presentation looks at how we can push our workload back to our CRM to give us more time with our donors. Finally, we delve into the fine art of balance. As fundraisers, relationships are key and it is important we add a personal touch to everything we do. We look at how technology can complement our stewardship efforts, make our donors feel loved and importantly, increase income. It’s so much more than automation, spreadsheets and technology – its happy staff, delighted donors and a brand that reaps the rewards. | Lauren McDermott (Donor Relations Officer, Perkins Institute) |
Enhancing Your Major Donor Strategy
Major donors
provide transformational gifts that inspire our sector and change our realities
– however 50% of donors stop giving after their first gift. With over 60,000
DGR 1 Charities in Australia, how do you find and keep your major donors active
and contributing towards your cause?
The purpose of this session is to identify the steps of a major donor program and discuss the strategies for success.

(Head of Development, Telethon Kids Institute) | Developing your fundraising team —how to move a collective of nice people into a functioning team How do you develop your fundraising team? Nice people don’t always equal a good team, how do you bring everyone together onto the same page? This session will dive into how to create a functioning team, overcoming obstacles and how to empower and enable your team for success. Using real-life examples and case studies, we will look at how to turn around a culture of negativity and develop a team. | Hazel Grunwaldt

Afternoon
Plenary
Did you know, you can change the world?
During Scott’s
presentation you will hear his story and the journey he has taken to raise
$145,000 for charity by the age of 12. He speaks about the difficulties he has
faced, the achievements he has accomplished and what has kept pushing him to
help others over the last nine years.
Scott asks you to look at your own journey and think about whether you are reaching for your true goals or if you are holding back from achieving everything you can. Scott reminds us that the journey is not individual and he has done what he has with the help of the community around him. He also proves that age is not a barrier when working in the not-for-profit/fundraising sector. Scott’s motto is “it’s easy to make a difference, what can you do?” and he wants you to walk away thinking that.
