Frank Cutitta, CEO, Center for Global Branding

With the rapid-fire rise of social media and next-generation marketing technologies, the timing seems ideal for IT and marketing to join forces and transform the customer experience. Yet many left-brained IT groups are instead growing further apart from their right-brained colleagues in marketing, who eagerly take advantage of cloud computing services to sidestep IT. Where is the middle ground for both organizations to innovate and evolve together? CEO Frank Cutitta of the Center for Global Branding set out to find that answer with a unique series of CIO-CMO interviews at 50 global enterprises, in a research project done in association with CSC Leading Edge Forum. In this lively, entertaining session, Frank will share the results of his CIO/CMO Harmony Index research and offer pointed, practical suggestions for how IT and marketing organizations can create a better relationship and improve their joint innovation efforts.

10:30 am - 11:00 amMeeting Demand and Minimizing Risk: Social Media and IT Consumerization in the Enterprise
Steven J. Bandrowczak, General Manager, Avaya Global Alliances, Avaya
Until recently, enterprise IT leaders have been cautiously adopting social media tools and consumer technologies, but in a piecemeal approach that has created disparate, siloed processes and inefficiencies. There are also concerns about wide-scale corporate adoption due to worries about security risks, architecture provisioning, “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device) requirements and unrealistic user expectations. Yet the potential business benefits of IT consumerization can improve the customer experience, boost user productivity and collaboration, and drive revenue growth. In this session, you’ll hear from Avaya’s General Manager Steve Bandrowczak about how IT and telecom leaders can conquer the challenges of social and consumer technology adoption in the enterprise.

In order for IT to become a business influencer and game changer, the technology organization must transcend its “service provider” relationship with stakeholders and become a trusted business peer and partner. The task of guiding that relationship journey falls to the CIO and the senior IT leadership team. In this combination panel discussion and hands-on workshop session run by our CIO Executive Council, you'll take a short quiz to assess your own IT group's relationship with business leaders. Then with your own assessment in hand, you'll hear directly from a panel of New York area IT leaders about their own challenges, roadblocks and successes. Finally, the audience will take over the discussion in small groups to explore the panel’s ideas and identify further best practices.

Wayne Shurts, EVP & CIO, Supervalu, Inc.
Finding ways to cut costs while drawing in more customers is a huge priority for $37.5 billion Supervalu, the financially struggling No. 3 grocery retailer behind Kroger's and Safeway. CIOs who know how to interpret customer behavior can help generate ideas for new products and find fixes for systems that aren't working well for shoppers. "It's real easy, especially in IT, to get lost in what you're doing and lose sight of the mission," says Supervalu CIO Wayne Shurts. "We have to bring customers in." In this presentation, Wayne will detail his efforts to draw IT more closely into customer-facing business operations. He'll also talk about the increasingly vital role of social media tools like Yammer (now with more than 10,000 internal users) and how it speeds up decision-making across the company.

An increasingly mobile workforce, a surging influx of consumer devices at work and the rapid rise of collaboration and social media tools are having a huge impact on business value delivery in today's enterprise. While these trends present  tremendous challenges for CIOs in data security, customer privacy and legacy integration, there is an undeniably strong tide of user demand to use the devices and tools of their choosing. How do you manage risk while giving up traditional IT controls? How do you maintain a good partnership with the business when you really have to say "No?" In this engaging panel discussion with prominent IT leaders and experts, you’ll hear how companies are turning these tensions into opportunities to enable business in a hyper-connected online world.

But most importantly, how can successful IT divisions recruit, retain and develop top talent while ensuring that the workplace social environment allows people to excel at what they do best? In this thought-provoking closing keynote, longtime IT leader Frank Wander, former CIO of Guardian Life and now founder of the IT Excellence Institute, will examine how successful IT divisions can do all of the above. In a radical departure from common practice, Frank will demonstrate why IT professionals are not interchangeable parts -- and why creating "professional intimacy) (the title of his upcoming book) is just as important for corporations as achieving "customer intimacy."
