WORKSHOPS:

    Sessions I and II:

Can Churches Grow in the 21st Century?
with Rev. Mike Netznik, Sr. Pastor – Covenant UMC in Moore Township &
Chair - Congregational Development Team
Come and consider how Jesus reached the people He did so we can look at our church and decide if we are equipped to meet the needs of the community. By identifying who is in our community, we will gain a new repertoire of fun and exciting ways to reach out and share the good news with the neighbors who are all around us.

Invisible Fences – Visible Bridges
with Rev. Navin Satyavrata, Sr. Pastor – Salem UMC in Allentown and
Carlen Blackstone, Member – Asbury UMC, Camping Board, & Conference Nominations
Consider all of the invisible fences we put up in defining our neighbors and discover concrete ways to build bridges among diverse people in our churches, our communities, and our
mission partners.  Focus on ways to embrace the Bishop’s call for “The Year of the Migrant.”

Knowing Our Neighbors, Meeting Their Needs
with Susan Kiefner, Member – Conference Communications Ministry Team
This workshop will explore how to know our neighbors, discover their needs, partner with
others to meet those needs and use today's communication tools to build awareness and response in the community. Essentially, we're maximizing ministry through marketing.
Come learn how.

Fundamental Security Guidelines for Houses of Worship
with Don Ernst, Certified Crime Prevention Specialist
This session is to help people put together a security analysis and plan. Are there proper safeguards in place to protect children and the congregation? Are you constantly monitoring
the level of security in your house of worship? Consider how to create a welcoming and safe congregational space.

    Session I Only:

Preparing for Guests: Setting Up for Your Neighbors
with Elizabeth Christie, UMC Children’s Minister, Webcaster & Writer
When we expect guests in our homes, we tidy up, put out nice snacks, and make our
spaces welcoming. Children's ministries require similar attention! Join us as we discuss
ways to staff our programs that meet Safe Sanctuaries guidelines regardless of congregation size, how to stream-line registration for programs, innovative ways of keeping in touch,
how to have effective multi-generational programming, and how to choose curriculum
to best meet the needs of the children and families.

The Outward-Focused Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
with Rev. Dr. Irving Cotto, North District Superintendent
This workshop will focus on the SPRC’s role in promoting a vital and intentional outreach ministry, which will be helpful to both those who are new to this committee and those
already serving in this ministry.  Learn how to facilitate support for your pastor, staff and lay
leadership  in order to serve the neighborhood.

    Session II Only:

A Place for ALL of God's Children: Effectively Including Those with Disabilities
with Elizabeth Christie, UMC Children’s Minister, Webcaster & Writer
Join us as we build our toolboxes, equipping ourselves to include all of God's children  effectively in our children's ministries. First, we will cover some basics on different types of disabilities. Then we will focus on how to make adaptations to lessons and programming so everyone can participate; how to set up our facilities so all can meet success; and how to
work positively with families of those with disabilities.

The Mission of the Church Council                                                                                       with Rev. Dr. Irving Cotto, North District Superintendent

Since the Church Council is both the program and administrative body of the local church,       this workshop approaches that dual role from the perspective of community involvement.         We will examine theological foundations, basic responsibilities, and missional designs.
