Event Details

Lewis Center / Columbus, OH, 43035

This Summit will convene invited professionals to explore best practices and key principles applicable to multiple systems for responding to Ohio's child victims of physical/sexual abuse in cases where their perpetrator has also battered adults in the children's lives. Participants will learn how child victim centered advocacy paired with strategic, collaborative and innovative approaches at the case- and systems-level can keep Ohio's children safer while alleviating the trauma associated with the crime. Participants will enrich their knowledge of children's diverse and complex lived experiences of abuse and trauma recovery. The two-day Summit will consist of plenary and concurrent sessions.

Day One will focus on how perpetrators of child physical/sexual abuse exploit dynamics of domestic violence to avoid detection and prolong access to victims, undermine community interventions, and interrupt the trauma recovery of their child victims. Day Two will focus on how child victims are doubly affected when abuse is met with ineffective responses and precautions for avoiding this result. Participants will learn evidence-based practices for earlier identification and proactive approaches to improve children's outcomes.
