Mata Cherrington
Associate
Centre for Social Impact
Mata brings to the Centre for Social Impact a varied set of skills developed in different employment settings and experiences including the military, corporate, community and the public sectors. Mata has degrees from Waikato University in Social Sciences, and in Law. Mata provides research and evaluation, management support and solutions to not-for-profit organisations in the health, social and early childhood education sectors. Her governance experience on a number of boards enables Mata to provide sound governance and strategic advice to start-ups and organisations seeking transformational change. Mata has a keen interest in initiatives that impact on communities and enjoys working with those that share the same vision for improved well-being for whānau. Mata is a trustee of the Community Trust of Southland.
 
Julian Darby
Senior Consultant

As a Senior Consultant on the New Zealand Consulting team, Julian is responsible for providing investment consulting advice to advisory clients in New Zealand, including Community Trusts and corporate superannuation schemes. Prior to joining Russell Investments in 2007, Julian lectured on corporate finance and investments at The University of Auckland Business School in the undergraduate programme before spending time overseas. During his studies Julian worked part-time in equity research at Credit Suisse First Boston and also as a research assistant at The University of Auckland.
 
Aaron Drew

Aaron is an experienced investment professional and consultant.
He is a Principal at MyFiduciary and Fi360 Pacific and currently serves on the Board for the Fairground Foundation and the Investment Committee for Foundation North. He is also an Associate of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research.

Aaron has worked at the institutional asset management level, as well as for retail-focussed advisory businesses. This includes seven years for the New Zealand Superannuation Fund where he was a member of its Investment Committee and helped establish its passive Reference Portfolio governance benchmark, dynamic asset allocation strategy, and thematic investment strategies.

He has previously worked as a Principal Economist at the NZIER, as CIO for the Stewart Group, as an Economist for the OECD in Paris, and as Manager of Research at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
He holds a Master of Economics (Honours) from the University of Auckland and AIFA designation.

 
Ross Fowler
Principal
MyFiduciary and Fi360 Pacific
Ross Fowler is an experienced investment governance analyst and consultant. He is a founding Principal at MyFiduciary and Fi360 Pacific and currently assists a range of boards, investment committees and advisor groups. His role has enabled Ross to develop insights into the fiduciary standards and processes applied by these different entities, enabling him to speak firmly from his uniquely independent viewpoint. He is responsible for the design and delivery of the 2-day Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF) course and Fiduciary Essentials® (FE) for Stewards course in New Zealand, Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Ross holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst® (AIFA®) designation and is a registered analyst with CEFEX, a global, certification organisation providing independent recognition of an entities’ conformity to a defined fiduciary standard. He completed Massey University Business Studies (Financial Planning) programme and is an Authorised Financial Adviser (AFA). Ross also graduated from Auckland University in Property Valuation and completed post graduate studies at Lincoln College in Farm Management. Ross is based in Tauranga, New Zealand.
 
Tony Paine

Tony has over 30 years’ experience in not-for-profit leadership and management working in the health, social service and cultural sectors in New Zealand. Tony’s career began as a psychiatric social worker and includes work with the NZ AIDS Foundation, the Christchurch Methodist Mission, and as CEO of the Comcare Trust, the Christchurch Arts Centre and Victim Support NZ. He took up the role of Secretary General (CEO) New Zealand Red Cross in September 2013. Tony served on the Board of Housing New Zealand Corporation for five years and has a Masters in Management Studies from Waikato University. He is married with two daughters.
 
Caren Rangi
Associate
Centre for Social Impact
Caren Rangi works with the Centre for Social Impact’s clients to provide specialist advice on governance, drawing on her own extensive experience in governance roles on not-for-profit, government and private boards. Caren recently finished an eight-year term as a trustee with Eastern & Central Community Trust. A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Caren is currently the Deputy Chair of Creative New Zealand, a director of the Cook Islands Investment Corporation in the Cook Islands, and of the Pacific Co-operation Broadcasting Ltd board, as well as a member of the boards of Pacific Homecare Services, and Pacific Inc Ltd. She was recently appointed by Government as Chair of the independent panel will review the Whānau Ora model.

Caren is proud of her Cook Islands Māori heritage, and brings that lens to her work. Her contribution to the Pacific community and governance was recognised in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours when Caren was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
 
Noah Schiltknecht

Russell Investments

Noah and his team provide investment advice and implemented consulting solutions for clients in New Zealand and the Pacific. Noah started at Russell as a consultant in 2011, advising a broad range of large institutional clients in New Zealand. He was responsible for providing advice and research on investment strategy, asset allocation and manager selection.

Prior to joining Russell, Noah was a senior investment analyst at Vector, modelling acquisitions and divestments in the energy sector in New Zealand. He started his career in the finance department of Swiss Re, a major reinsurance company in Switzerland. His first role involved forecasting and analysing asset management and reinsurance businesses, as well as a variety of structured products such as finite reinsurance, credit default swaps and insurance-linked securities. He was part of a project team that developed and introduced a new economic performance management and asset-liability management system for life and non-life reinsurance in the company. After five years in finance Noah joined the underwriting department, where he structured and priced natural catastrophe-linked securities and derivatives. He was also responsible for the analysis and pricing of investments in a proprietary portfolio of insurance-linked securities and derivatives.

 
Rebekah Swan
Head of Distribution/Responsible Investment Specialist for NZ
AMP Capital

Rebekah heads up the Distribution team in New Zealand and has responsibility for setting the AMP Capital's distribution and sales strategy, as well as managing the relationships with AMP Capital's clients. Her primary focus is managing and enhancing those relationships through providing a clear understanding of our investment funds and explaining the broader issues which impact client portfolios.

Rebekah has over 20 years’ proven expertise in investment markets, regulatory risk compliance and financial services. This comes from a diverse background and extensive leadership experience, including several years working overseas in the United Kingdom and Canada. Rebekah is also our Responsible Investment Specialist in New Zealand working closely with AMP Capital’s ESG team and has a strong interest in responsible investment and corporate governance, and is committed to implementation of strategies and delivering results.

She is a member of the AMP Capital Leadership Team and the Australia and New Zealand Client Leadership Team and a member of the Responsible Investment Committee for AMP Capital. Outside of work Rebekah is a member of the Woman in Super management committee, Rebekah also has a keen interest in the financial wellbeing of New Zealand women, focusing on financial literacy from school age to post retirement.

 
Dr Alison Taylor

Centre for Social Impact
Dr Alison Taylor is Chief Executive of the Centre for Social Impact.  Alison was involved in the design of the Centre when it was established as a social business by Foundation North, New Zealand’s largest philanthropic trust.

Alison had managed the Foundation’s pioneering high engagement funding and capacity support programmes and was aware of the support and services needed by funders seeking social impact. She was then appointed to head the Centre when it was established in 2014. Alison has overseen the development of the Centre as a resource for philanthropic and community grantmakers and funders. This has involved building a network of specialist advisors and partner organisations which is working with grantmakers and funders in New Zealand and Australia develop their strategies and invest for impact. The Centre also works with community organisations to design, implement and evaluate social change programmes.  Alison’s previous roles include Chief Executive of the Ministry of Youth Development, and the Mental Health Foundation. She has been a trustee of Philanthropy New Zealand and the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation.
