Ian Burn

Delta Community Support Trust
Ian is the Services Coordinator / CEO for Delta Community Support Trust, a Christian Social Services and Community Development organisations. Delta is a mid sized NGO that works to support people with intellectual disabilties, older adults, migrants and refugees, and people on low incomes and with other disadvantages. Delta works with 2500 people a year. While most of its activity is focussed in Christchurch's north east suburbs suburbs it does provides some services across the city. Ian has prior experience working in other NGOs focussed on mental health, social support and resource exchange. He has also worked previously as a funding advisor/manager in local government and the NZ health sector.

Jenn Chowaniec

Wayne Francis Charitable Trust
Jenn has managed the Wayne Francis Charitable Trust, a family philanthropic in Christchurch, since July 2015. Before working in philanthropy, Jenn trained as a lawyer and has worked and volunteered in the legal sector, in New Zealand, her homeland Scotland and in Kenya.

Sarah has over 30 years’ experience volunteering and working in the community sector. It’s from this practical, real world experience that Sarah’s passion comes for supporting community organisations to activate their mission. Over four years, Sarah led the DIA sector-wide capacity-building programme for the new financial reporting requirements for charities. Recently, as NZ Manager of Strategic Grants, Sarah has been working with both grant-seekers and grant-makers to apply a strategic approach to their work. Currently, through Doherty Solutions, Sarah works with community organisations to build practical solutions that work.
 
Mark Farrar
Fund Manager
Wellington City Council
Mark manages Council's funding and grant portfolio from end to end across the arts, social, environmental and community sectors, he is also Fund Manager for the Wellington Regional Amenities Fund which Councils in the region contribute to, this fund supports regionally significant organisations and projects in the arts sector. Mark is one of a small team of Welfare Managers for the City during emergencies. Recently Mark has been working on an open data project (thedivvy.nz) -addressing open data and funding information for communities and organisations. Prior to his move to Wellington Mark worked for youth-led grantmaking organisation YouthBankUK supporting youth across the UK to get grantmaking going in their own communities.

Kate Hiatt
Community Engagement & Funding Manager
Wellington Community Trust
Kate has held positions in local government, tertiary education and the health and community sectors. She joined the Wellington Community Trust in 2013 as the Funding Advisor.

Kate has a Diploma of Horticulture and worked for a Heritage Garden consultancy firm as a researcher before moving to Auckland with her family 8 years ago. There she completed her Master of Arts Management (AUT) whilst working in the Department of Performing & Screen Arts and Research Office at Unitec. Kate moved to Wellington in March 2013 and quickly discovered that it is simply quite fabulous. She has been on several committees, was a Board member at her children’s schools and the convenor of their environment committee. Her volunteer work has recently included working for Refugee Services in the re-settlement programme with 2 wonderful families from Myanmar.

Raewynne Jacobs

Foundation North
Raewynne has been employed by Foundation North as the Funding Manager since October 2013, relocating from Hawkes Bay. Prior to her role with Foundation North, Raewynne was employed as a Donations Assessor with Eastern and Central Community Trust. She has extensive experience in working in community development with both the Department of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development and also with her work here at Foundation North. Raewynne has also had experience in grant making having spent a number of years working for the Lottery Grants Board as an Advisor and Team Leader. During November 2017, Raewynne was seconded to a Foundation North project, to develop a new grantmaking database with the San Francisco company, Fluxx. She has now returned to her role now that the database is live. Raewynne enjoys the arts, sports and exercise, entertaining and spending time with her family. She continues to be enthusiastic about her work and empowering community to access funding and guidance.

Murray Jones

Dove Charitable Trust
Murray Jones is the Managing Director of Dove Electronics Ltd and the Chair of Dove Charitable Trust, based in Christchurch. The Trust primarily funds local charities but also supports international projects. He plays a hands-on role in all parts of the application process, including assessing applications. This has given him a good overview of what can really make a difference. Murray believes that business owners have a responsibility to those parts of society that do not participate in or benefit from commercial success. Integrating philanthropy with business practice plays an important role in this, particularly by promoting a culture of generosity, such as including staff in funding decisions and encouraging staff giving.

Eileen Kelly

J R McKenzie Trust
Eileen Kelly (NZ) joined J R McKenzie Trust in December 2014 and is a Grants Advisor and Programme Manager for the Trust’s proactive programme Connecting Education and Communities. Eileen has extensive experience in organisational and community development, human resource management, and capacity building in the resource poor settings of many countries in South East Asia and the Pacific. Prior to that, her work was in the tertiary community education sector and she is passionate about second chance learning and education opportunities particularly for women and parents.

Rose Kirkup

Everybody Cool Lives Here
Rose Kirkup is the Artistic Director of Everybody Cool Lives Here which she runs with Producer Nic Lane. Rose is passionate about shaping our stories into challenging yet accessible shows for all. Rose has had many roles in theatre - directing, stage management, and as a designer, collaborating with companies such as Touch Compass, Capital E, and Taki Rua. Rose has worked extensively in the care and support sector in Aotearoa and uses these experiences to fuel her work with Everybody Cool Lives Here. Rose is currently working on a script called Unflattering Smock, which honors the stories of the New Zealand aged care worker. Everybody Cool Lives Here just presented two new solos Force Field and Big J Stylez at the Auckland & Wellington Fringe Festivals.

Moira Lawler

Lifewise
Moira leads Lifewise a social innovator with its roots in the Methodist church. Lifewise provides a range of services in the community and works with people to create sustainable solutions to complex issues. Lifewise’s current focus areas include alternatives to foster care, new pathways to permanent housing for youth and adults experiencing homelessness, and options to combat loneliness in older adults. Moira has a background in education, community and economic development and public policy. Before joining Lifewise, Moira was a General Manager at Porirua City Council, responsible for long term planning, resident engagement, and city development. She has a passion for community development and community engagement and has held governance roles in these areas nationally and internationally.

Lynne Le Gros

Spark Foundation
Lynne Le Gros is the General Manager of the Spark Foundation, coming into the role the week the Spark Foundation announced their purchase of crowdfunding platform Givealittle. The Spark Foundation follows the catalytic approach to philanthropy focussing on programmes to encourage generosity and unleash potential through education, and programmes that are implicitly digital, innovative and transformational. Lynne is an experienced marketer with experience across a range of industries. She has also built a hands-on appreciation of the charitable sector through her many years as a volunteer at the Auckland City Mission Drop-in Centre.

Alison Maccoll
Community Partnerships and Lessons Learnt
New Zealand Red Cross Recovery team
Alison Maccoll joined the New Zealand Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Recovery team in 2013. As part of her role, she manages and oversees the cash transfer programmes and community partnerships between New Zealand Red Cross and a range of community and social service organisations across greater Christchurch. Alison has over 20 years’ experience in the international humanitarian and development sectors as a grant maker and supporting grantees to effectively implement funded projects.

Jenny Oxley

Manaiakalani Education Trust
Jenny has held the role of Chief Executive Manaiakalani Education Trust since 2012, having been involved in establishing the Trust in response to the opportunity to harness and support the educational innovation and leadership coming out of schools in Tamaki, Auckland. She manages a team of educators who work with over 100 schools in some of New Zealand’s poorest communities, bringing world class digital teaching and learning to address issues of equity and access, and raise student achievement. In the past 7 years, this evidence-based programme has gone from $100 in the bank to an annual expenditure of over $3m, made possible through multi-sector partnerships all in service of predominantly Maori and Pasifika learners. Before moving to the Not-for-Profit sector, Jenny had a diverse career in public sector management, including the role of Director of the Tamaki Transformation Programme, an urban renewal programme which fostered Manaiakalani as one of its foundation community development projects.

Tony Paine

Tony has over 30 years’ experience in not-for-profit leadership and management working in the health, social service and cultural sectors in New Zealand. He has been CEO of Philanthropy New Zealand since early 2017. Tony’s career began as a psychiatric social worker and includes work with the NZ AIDS Foundation, the Christchurch Methodist Mission. He has held the CEO position at the Comcare Trust, the Christchurch Arts Centre, Victim Support NZ and the New Zealand Red Cross. Tony served on the Board of Housing New Zealand Corporation for five years and has a Masters in Management Studies from Waikato University.

Penny Prescott

Canterbury Youth Workers Collective
Penny is the Manager of the Canterbury Youth Workers Collective, an organisation that supports youth workers and youth development organisations across Canterbury. Through her support of the youth sector, Penny brings a perspective not only on the funding needs of her organisation, but of funding in collaborative projects and funding of youth organisations generally. Penny began work in the youth sector as a volunteer at age 15 and has worked in youth, community or Māori development roles since leaving university.

Dr Sarah Rusholme

Experience Wellington
Dr Sarah Rusholme is responsible for ensuring that children and young people feel welcomed, included and important whenever they encounter one of Experience Wellington’s six institutions. She also leads Capital E – New Zealand’s centre for children’s creativity. Sarah has twenty years’ experience in the UK and New Zealand science and cultural not-for profit sector, and is in constant conversation with funding bodies.

Over the last two decades Anya has worked for and with young people in a heap of different contexts- Aotearoa, South London, schools and the community sector; making films and making things happen. She has had a variety of leadership roles in the education and youth development sectors where her belief in the need for a coherent, connected, interdisciplinary, cross sectoral ecosystem has solidified. Anya is especially interested in rights based, innovative, restorative and ethical approaches that amplify young people's agency, voice and strengths. She bring sa fierce belief that we’ve got to work together to create the environment where our young people will reach the stars that belong to them.

Robyn Scott

Robyn Scott has been the Executive Director of the J R McKenzie Trust since May 2017. She has held many senior roles in both Government and the not-for-profit sector including Director, Ministry of Youth Development; CEO, Age Concern NZ; and CEO, Philanthropy NZ. Robyn has a passion for making a difference which drives her commitment to the J R McKenzie Trust vision of a socially just and inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand. She has held several governance roles and is an alumnus of Leadership NZ. She is married to David and has two adult children. She divides her time between her home in Wellington City and her bach, ‘Gladys-by-the-Sea’.

Caroline is the Chief Executive of Community Energy Action Charitable Trust (CEA), an organisation that aims to create healthy living and working environments for all New Zealanders. She is a strong advocate for improving people’s health and wellbeing, as well as staff development. In her time as CE she has been directly involved and driven a number of multi-million dollar projects helping thousands of homeowners across the Canterbury, West Coast and Marlborough areas. Caroline has a background in leadership, business development and operational management across a variety of public and private sectors within New Zealand, Europe and the USA. Caroline has an honours degree in Chemistry and an honours degree in Business Studies, both gained in the UK. Caroline is also a passionate animal lover, with a strong focus on protecting and conserving our natural environment.
