Hinemoa has led a distinguished career in project management, public and private investments, and research and evaluation. Working across both the public and private sectors, she has a wide breadth of experiences with a particular focus on Māori language and development. In her current role as Manager of Hono Tātaki, Resource Efficiency and Innovation, she is leading the development of New Zealand’s Circular Economy policy transition as well as a range of other work reducing waste and driving resource efficiency.

Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw

Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw is a New Zealand researcher and communicator, good science advocate and influential contributor to conversations around the nexus of population wellbeing and policy. Jess’s substantial and significant work in science is predicated on three things; shared values, equity, and evidence, and it spans the breadth of the social, economic and political spectrum. Jess got her PhD in Health Psychology from Victoria University and has over a decade’s worth of experience working on applying science and evidence to public policy and storytelling. You can find her writing as Dr Jess at The Spinoff and Radio NZ, and Newsroom. Jess is co-director of The Workshop, a research, policy and storytelling collaborative.

Dr Kay Booth
Deputy Director-General of Partnerships
Department of Conservation
Dr Kay Booth is Deputy Director-General of Partnerships for the Department of Conservation. She leads the team focused on working with others to increase conservation in New Zealand. Dr Booth will be speaking at the Environment Funders' Event. Throughout her career, Kay has been actively involved in the environment and recreation sectors. Past roles include work in the public sector (Departments of Lands and Survey, Statistics, and Conservation), academic at Lincoln University in parks, recreation and tourism, consultant, and co-owner of MapWorld New Zealand. Kay has been Chair of the New Zealand Conservation Authority and has also served on the NZ Walking Access Commission, the NZ Geographic Board and the Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board. She has been an executive board member for various environment and recreation organisations.

David Carrington
Independent Consultant
British Charities Sector
David is an experienced non-executive Board member. He was a member (and Vice Chair) of the Supervisory Board of Triodos Bank NV in The Netherlands from 2009-2017 and a Non-Executive Director of Big Society Capital in the UK from when it was first set up in 2012 until 2017. David also works as an adviser and consultant on the development of social impact investing, the governance of charities and social purpose organisations, and the promotion of personal philanthropy. His clients have included endowed and corporate foundations, individual social investors and philanthropists, the UK Government, private wealth managers, the Big Lottery Fund, the European Foundation Centre (EFC), and the Global Impact Investment Network (GIIN). He is a Trustee of two charities, Gulan and SOFII, and a former Trustee of several other charitable companies including Bridges Charitable Trust, the National Foundation for Youth Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and engage (the association of people working in gallery education). Marianne Elliott

Marianne Elliott is a researcher, strategist and storyteller who has used story-based research, advocacy and campaigning to influence policy in New Zealand and elsewhere over the past two decades. Marianne's work in policy advocacy and public narrative-setting is shaped by her commitment to clarity, creativity and compassion, and her work spans the breadth of social, economic and environmental issues. Marianne's work translates complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives and and tells stories that help shift the dial of public opinion to support pro-social policy. Marianne is co-founder of ActionStation, a vehicle for Kiwis who believe in a fair and flourishing New Zealand and co-director of The Workshop, a research, policy and storytelling collaborative.

Lani Evans

Lani Evans is manager of the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation and an advocate for generosity in all its forms. She has a background in community work with a strong youth development focus. She was a 2015 Winston Churchill Fellow, looking at participatory practice in philanthropy and is the co-chair of Action Station, Chair and founder of the Thankyou Charitable Trust, sits on the Peter McKenzie Project committee and is Director of social enterprise Thankyou Payroll.

Bronwen Golder
Director
Pew Global Oceans Legacy NZ
Bronwen Golder leads the Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy programme in New Zealand, with specific focus on large marine protected areas. Golder has spent more than 20 years working for nonprofit organizations, with a strong focus on capacity building and partnerships for large scale, ‘change-making’, natural resource management and protection. She spent more than 10 years with WWF International, advising and facilitating global conservation partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including the European Commission and corporate sectors. She provided strategic leadership and advocacy support to major conservation initiatives around the world, including large scale protection and trans-boundary management of areas of the Congo Basin, Himalayas, South West Pacific, and the Amazon Basin. In these roles she coordinated conservation goal setting, planning and action, and took the lead on a number of special projects focused on the population, gender and development interface with conservation . Golder holds a bachelor’s degree in English and history from Victoria University in New Zealand and a master’s degree in international relations from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

Kevin Hague
Chief Executive
Forest and Bird
Hailing from Greymouth on the South Island’s West Coast, Kevin joined Forest & Bird as Chief Executive in October of 2016. He has held leadership roles in business, and in the Government and community sectors. Before joining Forest & Bird Kevin served as a Member of Parliament for eight years, and was previously Executive Director of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and Chief Executive of the West Coast District Health Board. Kevin has also been extensively involved in various human rights issues, and has a strong commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. A previous member of the West Coast Tai Poutini Conservation Board, Kevin has also been involved in conservation advocacy and campaigning, as well as practical conservation work of planting and pest control. He’s also a mountain biker and tramper.

Peter Hardstaff

Peter joined WWF-New Zealand in 2009 with experience as an environmental and development campaigner in the UK and New Zealand. Peter's role of Environmental Campaigns Manager for WWF-New Zealand sees him lead the team creating change for WWF's top conservation priorities.

Eileen Kelly

J R McKenzie Trust
Eileen Kelly (NZ) joined J R McKenzie Trust in December 2014 and is a Grants Advisor and Programme Manager for the Trust’s proactive programme Connecting Education and Communities. Eileen has extensive experience in organisational and community development, human resource management, and capacity building in the resource poor settings of many countries in South East Asia and the Pacific. Prior to that, her work was in the tertiary community education sector and she is passionate about second chance learning and education opportunities particularly for women and parents.

Thomas Kelly, Jr.

Tom Kelly joined the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation in 2012 as vice president for knowledge, evaluation and learning after 13 years managing evaluations at the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland. His work in evaluation began in 1990 and includes the building of evaluation and knowledge-building capacity, evaluation of policy advocacy and community capacity, and foundation performance and results measurement. At Hawai‘i Community Foundation he is focused on the use of evaluation and knowledge to increase nonprofit and philanthropy effectiveness and on strategic planning for the foundation. Tom is a former board member of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and is a graduate of Harvard College and The George Washington University. The Hawai‘i Community Foundation is a statewide charitable services and grantmaking foundation that provides stewardship for more than 850 funds. In 2017 HCF managed $706 million in assets and awarded $59 million in grants and contracts including $6 million in scholarships to Hawai`i students.

Jim Matheson
Education Consultant

Jim Matheson (NZ) is an education consultant. He was a senior manager at the Ministry of Education for 12 years before spending a year in the Cook Islands developing and implementing a tertiary education strategy. He recently completed an analytical review of the education system in Kiribati and is currently consulting on a range of education projects. Jim is helping JR McKenzie Trust to implement its programme of supporting communities to strengthen their expectations and engagement in education. He is also a board member of Tai Wānanga, a new Māori secondary school, and a board member of the New Zealand Drug Foundation.

Rob McIntosh
Education and Public Sector Strategist
Independent Consultant
Rob currently works as an education consultant, providing strategic advice for New Zealand entities and also working internationally on education aid programmes in the Pacific and other international assignments. A particular focus for Rob through all his education work is what current changes in technology, work, society, the environment and global inter-connectedness mean for the future of teaching and learning. In a recently completed paper, he argues that we need to pursue transformation in teaching and learning and that this offers us the best chance of enabling all our young people to thrive in the future and particularly those who have been and still are poorly served by current approaches. Prior to moving into consultancy, Rob was for fifteen years a Deputy Secretary in the New Zealand Ministry of Education, working on policy in both the schooling and tertiary education sectors as well as broader system strategy. In recent years he has also acted as the Chief Executive of the Education Review Office and the Director of the New Zealand Teachers Council. Prior to working in the education sector, Rob held a range of positions in the New Zealand Treasury. Rob holds Masters degrees in economics from the University of Canterbury and the London School of Economics.

Sidd Mehta

Based in Auckland, Sidd has been with Generation Zero since the last election cycle in 2014. Sidd now helps coordinate Political engagement for the Zero Carbon Act campaign and outside of that he works as an Advisor for Auckland's Public Health Unit. Sidd is a keen cyclist and his favourite place in New Zealand is Lake Waikareiti.

Genevieve Northey is the Donations Programme Manager at The Tindall Foundation, a family foundation founded by Sir Stephen and Lady Margaret Tindall. The Foundation vision is to help build a stronger, more sustainable Aotearoa New Zealand so families, communities and our natural environment can thrive now and in the future. Genevieve is also a member of the Maori Advisory Committee for Philanthropy New Zealand.

Matt Reid
General Manager of Community Services
Hutt City Council
Matt Reid is the Chair of TAKA Trust and General Manager of City and Community Services at Hutt City Council. Over the last 25 years Matt has undertaken general management roles of Te Papa and Hutt City council, as well spending two years as an Assistant Auditor-General and two years as CEO in the racing industry. Matt is a Chartered Accountant with broad experience in wider areas of corporate services. Matt is passionate about ensuring every child in every community is given equal opportunity to discover his or her own special talent. Matt is also on the Board of Barnardos NZ and chairs the Boards of Youth Inspire, Healthy Families Lower Hutt and also his local primary school. Matt loves to spend time with his family (wife and three young kids), and also enjoys time coaching junior sport, keeping himself fit and some occasional golf or fishing.

Minister Eugenie Sage
Minister for Conservation, Minister for Land Information New Zealand and Associate Minister for the Environment
New Zealand Parliament
Eugenie Sage is the Minister for Conservation, Minister for Land Information New Zealand and Associate Minister for the Environment. She has been a Green MP since 2011. Before that she was an elected Environment Canterbury regional councillor. For much of her adult life she has worked to better protect Aotearoa/New Zealand’s natural landscapes and seascapes, and the indigenous plants and wildlife that call them home, including 13 years with the conservation organisation, Forest and Bird.

Gemma Slack

Gemma Slack is responsible for Strategic Initiatives for Momentum Waikato, was awarded 30 under 30 by Hamilton City Council in 2017, is the Chair of Seed Waikato, is part of the Youth Advisory Group for Philanthropy New Zealand, and has her own social enterprise, Betley.

Liz Tindall Tetro
Communications Manager
The Tindall Foundation
Liz Tindall Tetro works part-time for The Tindall Foundation managing internal and external communications, including the website, writing and producing the Foundation’s digital annual report and creating e-newsletters. Along with her four siblings, Liz works on the Next Gen fund, giving donations proactively to organisations that use art as a medium to help young people. She also sits on the advisory board of Trees that Count, one the Foundation’s major environmental projects and is on the committee of the Working Together More Fund, a fund created by five family foundations across New Zealand giving money to organisations working collaboratively. 

Liz has a background in journalism and PR, having worked in television, magazines, PR agencies and managing the press offices of a number of charities and not-for-profits in London. Before starting with The Tindall Foundation, Liz was Corporate Affairs Manager for Surf Lifesaving NZ, following an eight-year stint in London.
