13:45 - 14:30Session I4: Ageing-in-Place in a Smart City: Challenges, Opportunities and the Road Ahead [More Info]
Prof. Tan Hwee Xian, Assistant Professor of Information Systems (Practice), Singapore Management University, Singapore

With the increasing ageing population worldwide, cities must explore different ways in which they can take better care of their seniors. Ageing-in-place is a paradigm that is harmonious with the aspirations of the seniors to age gracefully, safely and comfortably in the community that they live in. By shifting the provision of care to the home and community where the senior is living in, ageing-in-place can thereby reduce public financial burden and alleviate the shortage of institutionalised placements.

In this talk, we will explore how smart city technologies - such as the Internet of Things (IoT) - can be harnessed to enhance care for seniors and improve care efficiency, to enable ageing-in-place. In particular, we will share the experiences gleaned from project SHINESeniors in Singapore, which encompasses more than 90 sensor-instrumental residential homes of seniors, and which involves four different caregiving partners. In addition, we will present the challenges, opportunities and the road ahead for ageing-in-place in a smart city.

Fetal life is the most critical period for growth and development in the whole of life. It is dependent on maternal health which is equally dependent on the mother's lifestyle. A new 'telemedine' process must enable the populace to improve their health and benefit from using it, not merely extend the existing service to the remote patient - "more of the same".

This presentation will describe how a new approved method of measuring both maternal and fetal ecg continuously from the mother's abdomen using a wearable wireless monitor enables the health of both mother and fetus to be measured from early pregnancy to delivery. Join Dr. Paul Johnson as he shares the advantages of fetal-maternal monitoring from anywhere, at anytime.
