Navigating SciPy 2018

New to SciPy?

The absolute best thing about SciPy is meeting the other attendees and speakers. SciPy is a very friendly crowd and just about everyone loves talking about their work. Don’t be shy about introducing yourself to those around you.

Check out the Welcome to SciPy Breakfast for New Attendees-Wednesday, July 9 at 8:15 am in the Tejas Room. This is an informal way to meet other new attendees. We will have a few community members available to answer questions and give you some tips about the conference.

Grab an "Ask me about" icebreaker sticker available by the registration desk. Fill it in with any topic you choose. Passionate about pandas, excited about data visualization, love working with geodata -  this will immediately make you recognizable to those with similar interests.

Connecting with Attendees

Outside of in-person interactions, the primary means of communication around SciPy is Slack. Feel free to post questions and start new channels. Email SciPy@enthought.com if you need an invite to Slack. Many attendees also tweet with #SciPy2018. Check the twitter feed and/or Slack for various announcements and to find out about impromptu gatherings.

Getting Social

Check the social events page.  There are still spaces available for the night out at the Broken Spoke on Thursday. Registration is required and may be added by modifying your existing registration or stopping by the registration desk on M2. Also check out things to do in Austin and nearby restaurants.

Parking

Parking is available at the AT&T Center parking garage. The entrance to the garage is on W. 20th and the cost is $18 for a full day. Additional parking is available across Martin Luther King Blvd. at the Bob Bullock Museum. Parking is $10 and the entrance to the parking garage is located on 18th Street, on the south side of the Museum. Parking also available at the Dobie Parking Garage at W. 20th St. and Whitis Ave. on the UT campus.

Dress Code

There is no dress code although most attendees dress in casual or business casual clothing.
Pro tip: Bring a sweater or sweatshirt. Yes, it is July in Austin, but the AT&T Center keeps things on the chilly side.
