Community Safety

Meet the Community Safety team on the streets of Fremantle to learn first-hand about their approach, skills and challenges relating to Community Safety.

Background: In recent years, the City of Fremantle has more than tripled its efforts to combat criminal, anti-social and nuisance behaviour by increasing its presence on the streets to serve its local residents, businesses and people visiting our ever popular port city.

As a direct response to a concerned community the council adopted a zero tolerance approach with its Community Safety team working hand in hand with the local Police to battle street drinking and nuisance behaviour in public
places.

Community Safety Officers conduct security patrols of the central city and surrounding suburbs using bicycles and vehicles. This team is on duty seven days a week. Particular attention is given to areas where anti-social activity is known to occur.

The City's officers strive to be the first responders to anti-social or nuisance behaviour and low level criminal activity such as street drinking and shop lifting.

National Hotel – Fremantle’s only roof top bar
Built in the late 1800s and almost completely destroyed by fire multiple times, this building has been magnificently restored over many painstaking years by owner Karl Bullers.

Karl will share the chequered history of this iconic Fremantle hotel and his involvement in the extensive restoration, including the yet to be opened roof top bar. Be one of the first people to enjoy a drink overlooking the state heritage listed West End at this much anticipated addition to the National Hotel.
