Palmer Ball

Palmer Ball Consulting

Palmer formed Palmer Ball Consulting, LLC, in 2016, as she embarked on a new career as a consultant specializing in project work for independent school financial operations. In addition to her consulting work, she was an adjunct faculty member of the independent school finance graduate class at the Klingenstein Institute at Columbia University in New York City. Before starting her consulting career, Palmer served as business manager at Spartanburg Day School in South Carolina for 21 years. Prior to that, she was vice president for business and finance at Converse College, her alma mater, for four years, following three years in the development office. Palmer was the recipient of NBOA’s prestigious Ken White Award in 2015, served two terms on the NBOA Board of Directors, and was elected to the Association of Business Officers of Independent Schools (ABOIS) in 2008. Palmer earned her B.A. in biology from Converse College and an M.B.A. in accounting from the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.
 
Sheri Burkeen
Director of Professional Development
SAIS

Sheri Burkeen joined the SAIS staff as the director of professional development in June 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Memphis and a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Alabama. Over the past 20 years, she has served in both public and private institutions and both co-ed and single-sex schools, teaching at the early childhood, lower, and middle school levels. Sheri has experience as a classroom teacher and technology coordinator with Woodland Presbyterian School and Lausanne Collegiate School, both in Memphis. She has most recently served as the curriculum development coordinator with St. Mary’s Episcopal School for Girls, also in Memphis. Sheri enjoys rolling up her sleeves and getting her hands dirty, whether it is outside in the garden or in the kitchen whipping up a new recipe.

Candice Pinares-Baez

Fisher Phillips

Candice C. Pinares-Baez is of counsel in the Fisher Phillips Fort Lauderdale office. She handles all types of employment-related matters including defending employment-related lawsuits and administrative complaints encompassing a variety of issues. Candice is a member of the firm's Education Practice Group, actively representing private educational institutions in employee, student, and board issues, working with many of the accrediting agencies and school associations. She was listed in Florida Super Lawyers - Rising Stars in 2009. She was also honored as one of the “40 Under 40” Outstanding Lawyers of South Florida for 2016.
 
Ken Rogers
Middle School Principal

As a trained counselor, Ken holds a B.A. in English from Berea College and an M.S. in counseling from Johns Hopkins University. With independent school experience as a teacher, dean, and head of middle school, Ken is a frequent presenter and consultant to independent schools. He has previously served as head of middle school with Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA, and the Wellington School in Columbus, OH. Ken currently serves as middle school principal with Charlotte Christian School in North Carolina, and is a faculty member of the ISACS New Teacher Institute.
 
Anna Taylor

SAIS

Anna joined the SAIS staff in May 2014. She graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in sociology. Throughout college, she worked as an intern, administrative assistant, and substitute teacher at The Suzuki School in Buckhead. She has a love for education and a passion for working with and helping people of all ages. She spends her free time volunteering at the Red Clay Music Foundry, exploring the outdoors with her dog, and spending time with family and friends.
