Presentation Summary:
Most health initiatives targeting CALD consumers are direct translations of English language messages. The Pink Sari Project will describe how it moved away from that approach, co-created a campaign with communities, saw a 17% increase in mammograms with Indian/Sri Lankan women, and won an international award for best campaign.

Presentation Summary:
Patient-centered care contributes to patient satisfaction and better outcomes. The question is how to make the patient’s journey through the unfamiliar world of the operating theatre more patient-centred. A questionnaire was developed jointly with the consumer consultancy committee. 349 questionnaires were returned allowing for numerical and thematic analysis.

A descriptive analysis was conducted to determine if gaps in experience varied by setting and/or changed over time.

Evidence of the patient experience is fundamental to creating effective health policy and service responses, yet we lack knowledge about their experience of adverse events (AEs). This presentation reports findings of a substantial project investing the experience of AEs from the perspectives of recently hospitalised patients in New South Wales.

Presentation Summary: Information regarding unplanned readmissions from the patients’ perspective is lacking in nursing literature, but vital to understand contributing factors. A mixed method research design with matched pair methodology was utilised. 114 patient interviews revealed issues regarding discharge information, medication information and referrals contributed to unplanned related readmissions or delayed discharges.

Presentation Summary: Person centred care in alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment involves responding to what people accessing services say about what matters to them. This study involved conducting focus groups with service users and developing the patient reported experience measure for addiction treatment (PREMAT) based on focus group findings.

Presentation Summary: Support for staff and self-care needs to be reviewed and improved on a regular basis. In July 2017, Bear Cottage launched a 6 month “Soul Time” trial quality improvement project for staff and end-of-life care support. In the presentation we will explore the outcomes of our trial and our findings.

Presentation Summary: Undergraduate assistants in nursing (UGAIN) were introduced into the collaborative nursing model of a NSW regional hospital surgical ward. The UGAIN role provides direct patient care and has resulted in positive impact on inpatient experience and demonstrated improvements on inpatient safety with a reduction in fall and pressure injury rates.

Presentation Summary: Patients leaving the emergency department do not understand their discharge instructions. Not understanding discharge instructions matters because of the higher risk of things going wrong at home after leaving the emergency department. What the Doctor Said is a web/mobile solution offering a robust, patient-centred and evidence-based approach to this issue.
