OhioSTART Training
OhioSTART Overview

OhioSTART (Sobriety, Treatment, and Reducing Trauma) is an intervention program that will provide specialized victim services, such as trauma counseling, to children who have suffered victimization with substance abuse of a parent being the primary risk factor. The program will assist parents of children referred to the program with their path to recovery from addiction. OhioSTART requires the partnering of county Public Children Services Agencies (PCSAs), behavioral health providers and juvenile/family courts. A key element of this program will be family peer mentors who will be paired with a child welfare caseworker to provide intensive case management services. OhioSTART emphasizes a wraparound approach for at-risk parents that include frequent home visits and mentorship from people who have lived experience with recovery and the child welfare system.

This program is funded through a grant received by the Public Children Services Association through the office of Attorney General Mike DeWine. Casey Family Programs has also invested resources to promote this promising strategy for OhioSTART in southern Ohio. Funding for the training and technical assistance support for the initiative comes from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services under their CURES SAMHSA grant.

All of the training is free and open to OhioSTART partners. Some training opportunities are more appropriately targeted to specific roles and responsibilities. Those are indicated as the target audience under each learning description.

Social Work and Professional Counselor continuing professional education (CPE) is approved through OCWTP Social Work provider #RSX088728 and Counselor Provider #RCX039201 for in-person workshops. CPE is available for some of the online opportunities as indicated in the descriptions. The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board and the State of Ohio Board of Nursing also accept CEUs approved for social work/professional counselors. All other attendees will be given a certificate of attendance.

This page along with the tabs above will be updated as new trainings are scheduled.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions regarding the training or technical assistance.
