A Historic Grand Dame Resort Since 1909

A magnificent, Federal-style structure with an imposing front portico supported by massive 30-foot columns, The Otesaga occupies 700 feet of lakefront on the southern shore of Lake Otsego, the famed "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper’s novels.

Selected as a member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, The Otesaga is reminiscent of a more genteel era when a gracious welcome was the standard. The Otesaga continues to receive the coveted AAA Four Diamond Award, for providing exceptional accommodations, excellent service and an elegant atmosphere. It blends perfectly with the Village of Cooperstown, New York, a culturally rich repository of Americana, where the country’s past is traced and preserved by its hometown cultural institutions – The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Fenimore Art Museum , The Farmers’ Museum – and by the town itself.

Guests of the Otesaga can choose from 132 elegantly furnished rooms including 26 suites. In-room amenities include:
  • Complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access
  • Cable flat-screen TV with premium channels
  • In-room coffee maker with a selection of coffees and teas
  • Plush robes and Egyptian-cotton towels
  • Telephones with voicemail
  • Irons and ironing boards
  • Hair dryers
  • Signature bath products
  • Complimentary bottled water

The first meal served in 1909 featured caviar canapes, broiled halibut with potatoes Parisiennes, Lamb Chops Monte Carlo, seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits, and desserts like coconut cake and rhubarb pie. Today, Otesaga chefs feature a delicious, imaginative and varied menu that will appeal to all members of your family, while emphasizing foods from central New York State.

The Otesaga is an American Plan (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner) Resort.

Each day begins with choice of table service or selections from our breakfast buffet in our bright and elegant Main Dining Room. A selection of fine wines is available. The adjacent Lobby Bar is the perfect spot for cocktails and conversation before dinner or a quiet after-dinner cordial. You can also enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings from the spacious Otesaga Veranda overlooking picturesque Lake Otsego.

Luncheon options include a wonderful selection offered by the more informal Hawkeye Bar and Grill, an American Grill, and adjoining Lakeside Patio. Next door in the Templeton Lounge , which is directly below the main lobby, guests can enjoy cocktails and dancing to live music several nights a week.

A sumptuous luncheon buffet is also served in the Main Dining Room with optional seating on the Veranda overlooking the indelible panorama of Lake Otsego and our Leatherstocking Golf Course.

The Main Dining Room is open daily for Breakfast 7:00AM-10:00AM, and Dinner 6:00PM-8:30PM.  Buffet Lunch is served Monday-Saturday 12:00PM-2:00PM and Sunday Brunch from 11:30AM-2:00PM. Recommended attire is resort casual.

The Pursuit of Sport and Leisure

In addition to the exciting play of The Otesaga's championship Leatherstocking Golf Course, The Otesaga offers guests both outdoor pool and lake swimming. Canoe rentals are available for enjoyment on the clear waters of Lake Otsego. The lake is also one of the finest deep water fisheries in Central New York, habitat for lake salmon, trout and small and large mouth bass. During the appropriate season fishing and hunting guides can assist you. Group skeet shooting can also be organized.

The Otesaga's Fitness Center in the Lower Lobby is open 6:00AM-8:00PM. It offers a variety of equipment to help you keep fit and trim during your stay at The Hotel.

Tennis is available on all-weather courts throughout the day. Jogging, and biking trails will explore the historic village of Cooperstown and the natural wooded landscape along the eastern side of the lake.
