For those unable to join us in Sarasota, we are excited to offer free live streaming of select conference sessions, including three general sessions! All live streamed sessions will also be recorded and available to view at the conclusion of the conference.

Adobe Connect will be used to virtualize the sessions. Before registering please review the following key points:
  • There is a limitation on the number of Adobe connections. Although you can sign up as an individual if possible try to coordinate using a conference room for the sessions.  You will be able to hear the audio through the phone or your computer speakers.  We will monitor registration and we might follow-up if we get too many registrations from your organization.
  • When registering please indicate if you are joining as an individual or a group.

Creating a story that incorporates who you are, what you are passionate about and why you are building the relationship is the foundation to building trust with your team, your clients and your community. Being named the John H. McLain 2015 Woman Veteran of the Year by the Sarasota County Veterans Commission, Bannister will share first-hand how her valuable experiences in the military and as a civilian allow her to build on today to strengthen tomorrow for everyone she encounters.

New technologies are transforming the working world, and 35 percent of today’s skills won’t be relevant in three years. Putting people at the center of the transformation is key. In this session, we will discuss recent research into how to reimage the workforce of the future, and we will explain what it means to thrive in a disrupted world. We will outline a model that you can apply at the organizational, workforce and individual levels.

Develop Emotional Intelligence in Leaders
Track: Leadership
Speaker: Peter Beck, Chief Learning Officer, RightPath Resources and a panel of Goodwill Members

Research shows that 50¬ to 90 percent of a leader’s success depends on his or her Emotional Intelligence (EQ). In this seminar, explore the five components of EQ along with tools and techniques to help leaders develop it. Through small-group discussion and case studies, participants will see examples of how individual Goodwills have used EQ to develop leaders at all levels in their organizations, from new managers to CEOs and boards. Both individual and organizational models for training and developing EQ will be shared.

GoodPaths – How to Advance Your Retail Employees and Profitability

Retail turnover rates are on the rise and Goodwill organizations are among the retailers reporting higher than average staff turnover. To address the issue, GII and Hope Street Group are implementing a cost-effective, evidence-based program called GoodPaths, which is proven to address talent development and retention challenges in retail. The program is currently being piloted with frontline retail employees of three Goodwill organizations. Attend to learn how GoodPaths benefits the retail employees and bottom lines of these organizations, and how you can adopt this transformational model. 


How to Keep High-Volume Career Centers Relevant in a Virtual World

This session will leverage best practices and lessons learned from Goodwill of North Georgia career services. Hear how the implementation of the Goodwill’s virtual career center enhanced services for more than 50,000 job seekers who use their brick-and-mortar career centers. Hear about the strategies and methodologies used to listen to customers, employers and community partners to improve brick-and-mortar and virtual services impact.

Many populations seeking digital skills training and careers in technology face deep disadvantages. Lower levels of exposure, office productivity software to cultural biases, and disabilities hampering one's ability to use a computer, are among the barriers to entry that must be overcome. Goodwill is just the organization to help people overcome these barriers, and this is just the session to help you build programs that can serve everyone.


Human Kaizen
Speaker: Frank Losquadro, Associate Director of Community Employment Services, Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut 

Participants will learn how Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut became the service provider of choice for vocational rehabilitation and job development services, achieving greater outcomes in the midst of challenging times and reduced government funding. Kaizen, or continuous improvement, is universal and can impact all processes at Goodwill, including mission services, workforce development, health and safety, and retail. Participants will see real data backed by proven results, and will be able to start mapping out problems and solutions with their teams back at their own Goodwill.

Mission is why Goodwill exists and, in many strong organizations, the cornerstone of a healthy culture that fuels success. Hear how the Goodwill Manasota team engages key cross-functional positions that work together to deploy mission integration. Learn how to start small with a controlled process that provides constant role clarification. Explore how your Goodwill can demonstrate more mission value – and protect its tax-exempt status – by integrating mission into its social enterprises while telling the whole Goodwill story. 

Just like the Goodwill Manasota team, local leaders across the network want their communities to understand Goodwill’s mission and impact. At Spring Conference, a new online toolkit is being introduced with template digital messaging content, effective practices for creating video and infographic materials, and local Goodwill examples. These materials are available via the GII Events app and MyGoodwill.

Building a Community-Wide Case Management System

Speaker: Courtney Geiger, Director, Mission Services, Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois and Wisconsin Stateline Area

Join us as we explore the journey Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois went on to build a community case management system. More than 40 agencies have participated in planning, training, and partnership to build this system as a better way to offer services. Over the past three years, the Goodwill has worked with a core group of these agencies to ensure case managers in their community work together, not in competition. Participants will learn about the case for this program, how it was developed, next steps in the process, and goals and measurements for success with the initiative.

Employee Wellness Programs: Increasing Engagement while Decreasing Costs

Team members of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes are excited to share their personal experience of implementing and improving the Goodwill’s wellness program, and how it has yielded positive results for the employees and the organization. The session will demonstrate the positive trends the program has produced since implementation, including increased employee engagement, decreased medical premium costs, and an enhanced awareness of proactive wellness.

From Initial Contact to Letter of Inquiry: Cultivation Basics
Track: Philanthropy and Resource Development/Grants Management and Compliance

This session will cover effective cultivation strategies focusing on private/corporate foundations. Participants will: 
  • Understand grant research options, such as Guidestar, Foundation Directory. 
  • Review a sample 990 to determine purpose, giving history, and capacity. 
  • Prepare for funder contact, including identifying shared areas of interest and leveraging strengths during a phone contact. 
  • Review LOI samples, discuss common elements, and tips/tricks.

Join us for an introduction into the various pre-existing mission services and programs that are offered to clients of Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana, including Goodwill Guides, New Beginnings, The Excel Center, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), Disability Services, Talent Source, Indianapolis Metropolitan High School, and Nurse-Family Partnership. The Goodwill’s leadership will discuss their progress and share outcomes of their current efforts while also sharing challenges that have been encountered along the way. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their own experiences as well. 


Goodwill Goes Digital! A Choose-Your-Own Virtual Services Adventure

Virtual services — the delivery of mission services via digital technologies rather than direct face-to-face interactions — are here to stay, and they’re expanding rapidly. Adopting virtual services, though, requires careful strategic thinking, and there's no one single road map or manual for how to do it. Join members of the GII team and the Virtual Services Affinity Group as we chart a fictitious Goodwill's journey to craft a virtual services strategy that's best for its operations, community and future growth.

With the traditional career path changing rapidly, have you ever asked yourself, “what gives me purpose at work?”  If so, you’re not alone!  Our information economy has changed how we work and more of us are seeking ways to integrate our personal and work values to achieve purpose.  In this session Shannon Schuyler, Principal, Responsible Business Leadership, Chief Purpose Officer, Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) and President, PWC Charitable Foundation, Inc. will discuss Corporate Responsibility and share how PWC has successfully implemented social and environmental programs within the organization’s strategic business priorities to elevate stakeholder engagement and connectivity.  Attendees will learn about how to approach their work to find purpose at work.
