Kate Frykberg
Kate is an independent consultant for the philanthropy and community sector, blogs about philanthropy and community issues, and holds governance roles at Thinktank Charitable Trust, the Ngāi Tahu Fund and the Edmund Hillary Fellowship. Her previous roles include Executive Director of the Todd Foundation and Chair of Philanthropy NZ. Prior to working in philanthropy, Kate had experience in IT and entrepreneurship. Highlights included co-founding one of NZ's first Internet Development companies, receiving the ASB Business Woman of the Year award, and being awarded the NZ Order of Merit for services to business and the community.
 
Tony Paine (Event Facilitator)
Tony has over 30 years’ experience in not-for-profit leadership and management working in the health, social service and cultural sectors in New Zealand. Tony’s career began as a psychiatric social worker and includes work with the NZ AIDS Foundation, the Christchurch Methodist Mission, and as CEO of the Comcare Trust, the Christchurch Arts Centre and Victim Support NZ. He took up the role of Secretary General (CEO) New Zealand Red Cross in September 2013. Tony served on the Board of Housing New Zealand Corporation for five years and has a Masters in Management Studies from Waikato University. He is married with two daughters.
 
George Thomson
George works as a consultant in the Implemented Consulting team, providing advice on strategy and implementation to institutional clients in New Zealand. He has a particular interest in alternative investments. George is a member of the Russell Investments Sustainability Council, supporting our efforts in the areas of responsible investing and sustainable work practices. His professional background is in Institutional Banking across Australia and New Zealand focusing on financial modeling, valuation and M&A origination and execution. He has also worked in Strategy and Decision Management for a large global bank developing financial models and data visualisation methods for reporting and strategic planning. Prior to joining Russell Investments, George was at one of the major local banks, with a particular focus on M&A in the construction and building products sectors. George is originally from a sheep, beef, and deer farm in Canterbury and maintains a strong interest in rural New Zealand and the farming community. When not thinking about investments he can be found exploring New Zealand's running trails and back country, or helping out on the family farm.
