  • Flaring techniques for a wide band ring




Learn the fundamentals of soldering Argentium silver and sterling silver metals with expert Janet Alexander, who has over 40 years of experience in soldering. In this class you will make a wide-flared band ring with your choice of spinner. Learn about the pros and cons of working in Argentium metal, annealing processes, solder types, sizing a ring, creating a spinner for the ring, flaring techniques, using a torch and fast finishing techniques to save time. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Know how to saw metal with a jeweler's saw

Materials you are required to bring: Two sets of needle nose pliers, jewelers saw frame, fine point permanent marker, flat file, and ring mandrel if you don’t want to share. Optional magnifying glasses and task light.

It’s always fun to add color to your jewelry pieces! Whether you have done torch enameling before or not, this beginner class introduces you to adding more technique to your enameling knowledge! Learn the basics of Cloisonné enameling while creating this fun kaleidoscope pendant! We will make this fun pendant using torch enameling techniques on copper. Janet learned enameling from several award-winning artists and passes on her expertise of 40+ years in making jewelry. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: None

Materials you are required to bring: Needle nosed pliers, round nosed pliers, fine point tweezers, wire cutters or sharp scissors, and flat file. Optional: Optivisor or magnifying glasses and task light.

Create this lovely 22k gold and sterling silver ring in this four-hour workshop. Learn how to choose a ring size, texture metal with a rolling mill, fuse sterling silver and gold together, soldering and applying a black patina. Additionally, Janet shares her tips and tricks from her 40+ years of metalsmithing. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students must have experience using a torch and soldering

• Working with Argentium sterling silver
  • Drilling a hole through a stone
  • Riveting




The double stone setting creates the most unusual ring! The top stone creates an accent top for the bottom stone. The ring band is adjustable so you can wear it on any finger, and the ring doesn’t tarnish because it’s made from Argentium sterling silver. In this one-day work shop, you’ll learn the following skills: how to anneal metal, soldering Argentium silver, stone setting a cabochon stone, drilling a hole through a stone, connecting stones together by riveting the top bezel to the bottom setting using round wire, creating an adjustable band, how to work with Argentium Silver, texturing metal, and using a reciprocating hammer to set stones. Janet will share her tips and tricks she's learned from making jewelry for the past 40 years! You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Knows how to saw and complete basic solder skills

Materials you are required to bring: Jeweler’s saw and (04 size) blades, 25mm x 20mm or smaller cabochon stone, flat bastard file, safety glasses, flush cutters, needle nose pliers, flat nose pliers, fine tipped permanent marker.

  • Making a setting for faceted stone




Janet shares her 40+ years of metalsmithing knowledge while teaching her students how to make this hollow pendant with sweat-soldered accents and a beautiful setting for a 10mm x 10mm faceted stone. Learn how to create a hollow form with a faceted stone setting, multiple soldering skills, making a bail, the parts of a faceted stone, setting a faceted stone, making a step accent, and texturing metal using a rolling mill and a texture hammer. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Must have soldering and sawing skills

Materials you are required to bring: Jewelers saw frame, #4 and #3 saw blades, round nose pliers, needle nose pliers, 1” wide #4 flat file, a fine tipped permanent marker, scissors.
