Ain Aaviksoo, MD MPH is Deputy Secretary General for E-services and Innovation at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia overseeing the digital transformation and innovation of social security area in Estonia, including health, labour and social matters. Mr Aaviksoo is currently chairing mHealth working group of the European Commission's eHealth Network. He is lecturing at Tallinn University of Technology and Medical Faculty of University of Tartu. Dr Aaviksoo obtained MD from University of Tartu and MPH from Harvard University. He has earlier work experience as a physician, senior level civil servant, international level consultant on large system transformation and technology adoption in healthcare, health policy researcher and CEO of public policy think-tank Praxis, and health-tech entrepreneur. Dr Aaviksoo has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and contributed into several book chapters on health policy and e-health, he is also regularly presenting as invited keynote speaker on e-services and e-society at international health care or public policy events.

Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis was appointed European commissioner for Health and Food Safety in November 2014. He was born on August 9 in Siberia where his family was deported in 1941. He returned in 1959 together with his mother and two brothers. His father was allowed to return only when year later. Vytenis Andriukaitis graduated in medicine in 1975 and has been practicing surgeon, specialising in cardiovascular surgery in 1989, for more than 20 years. He also holds a degree in History from Vilnius University acquired in 1984. As of 1969 he was active in the anti-Soviet movement. His political engagement started already in 1976. He was one of the founders of the Lithuanian social-democrat party. In 1990 he was elected to the supreme the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania which preceded Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) and was one of the co-authors of Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania adopted in 1992 as well as a signatory of independence act of Lithuania. Andriukaitis was a Member of Parliament for six mandates. During that period he has been the Deputy Chairman of Committee on European Affairs, the member of Foreign Affairs Committee and Vice-President of Social-Democrat party. The Commissioner has also led the Lithuanian delegation to the Convention on the Future of Europe. From 2012 to 2014 Vytenis Andriukaitis was minister for Health.

Between 1998 and 2001 he was the Chief Advisor to the Minister of Labour and Social Policy. From 2008 he served as Minister- Head of Strategic Advisors to the Prime Minister Donald Tusk and from 2011 until 2013 as Minister of Administration and Digitisation of Poland. In 2016 Michal Boni was awarded a MEP award in category research and innovation.

Vasileios S. Charisis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1985. He received the Diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2008 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Currently, he is a researcher at the Signal Processing and Biomedical Technology Unit of the Telecommunications Laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTH. His research interests focus on advanced signal and image processing techniques, biomedical engineering, pattern recognition on medical images and human-machine interfaces, while his non-academic activities entail iOS and Programmable Logic Controller application development. Alongside his postgraduate studies, in 2005 he worked for the Public Power Corporation S.A., in 2007 for the Automation Department of Ghent University and from 2007 until 2008 for the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization. From 2010 until 2014 he has worked as a teaching assistant at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTH and the Departments of Informatics Engineering and Civil-Surveying Engineering and Geoinformatics, Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia, Greece. From 2013 until now, he has participated in one European and two national research projects and he has coauthored a successful HORIZON2020 research project proposal. Currently, he is working for the "i-Treasures" (FP7-ICT-2011-9-600676) research project and he is a member of the coordinating team of the HORIZON2020 "i-PROGNOSIS" research project. Since 2009, he has authored a book chapter and more than 14 publications in various national and international peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Dr. Charisis, in 2003 and 2012 received an honorary distinction of academic excellence by the Technical Chamber of Greece, in 2003, 2004 and 2005 received a scholarship of academic merit by the Institution of State Scholarships and in 2009 received a 3-year scholarship for doctoral studies by Leventis Foundation.

Miguel previously held different positions in DG CONNECT, including Head of Unit for Administration and Finance, Deputy Head of Unit for Policy Coordination and Deputy Head of the Unit "ICT for Inclusion". He also worked as legal officer on telecommunications regulation, and as handler of trade defence investigations in DG TRADE. Laurie Hawkins is an experienced ICT Healthcare professional with twenty years' experience working for the National Health Service in the UK, and Tasmanian and Victorian Health Departments. He is currently Project Manager for the Human Services Directory (HSD) which receives over 1.3 million hits/month. He is credited with the significant achievement of gaining support from all States/Territories and the Federal government for the creation of a National Health Services Directory (NHSD) based on the Victorian HSD. The NHSD has now been established and is a major piece of Health ICT infrastructure for e-health and the Personal Electronic Controlled Health Record (PCEHR) in Australia. He has worked with the Better Health Channel team in the creation of an IPhone/IPad app (83,000 downloads, Victoria), which enables consumers to find health/human services from the HSD using the "Find a Service" facility. This has won the 2012 Australian Mobile Awards - Health Category. He has facilitated the supply of data from the HSD for the "Arthritismap" (via an API) created by Arthritis Victoria for consumers and health planners. This is believed to be a world first and has unique functionality such as Planning Circles, Geographic Bar Charts, etc. This website won the prestigious Don Walker Award - Access at the 2012 Health Informatics Conference (HIC) in August 2012.

From 1999 to 2002, Kersti Kaljulaid was Prime Minister Mart Laar's Economic Advisor. Her duties included organisation of cooperation of the Office of the Prime Minister with Estonian central bank, the Ministry of Finance and ministries that had larger budgets, as well as coordination of relations with the International Monetary Fund and other financial institutions (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Nordic Investment Bank and World Bank). She participated in preparing the pension reform together with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Social Affairs and advised the Prime Minister in annual budget negotiations held with other ministers. From 2002 to 2004, Kersti Kaljulaid was the CFO and CEO of the Iru Power Plant of state-owned energy company Eesti Energia. From 2004 to 2016 she was a Member of the European Court of Auditors. From 2004 to 2006 Kersti Kaljulaid organised the financial audit of the research and development funds of the budget of the European Union and from 2007 to 2010 she was responsible for the audit of the Structural Policies. Dr Lacombe rose to the position of Director EORTC Headquarters in 2010, and in April 2015 was appointed EORTC Director General. Taavi Rõivas was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia from 2014 to 2016. Taavi Rõivas was the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Estonia from 2012 to 2014. Taavi Rõivas was a member of the 11th and 12th Riigikogu: he has chaired the European Union Affairs Committee, and been a member of the Social Affairs Committee as well as the Finance Committee of the Riigikogu. Taavi Rõivas was the leader of the Reform Party from 6 April 2014 to 7 January 2017. Taavi Rõivas has also worked as a Corporate Customer Account Manager at an IT company, and as an adviser to Märt Rask, Minister of Justice; Paul-Eerik Rummo, Minister of Population; and to Prime Minister Andrus Ansip as well as the elder of the Haabersti city district of Tallinn.

He started his career as research and development engineer for the aeronautics industry, worked for the French University in Beirut and created also his own engineering company. He has also delivered Innovation Seminars within WHO, most recently to the Global Malaria Programme. Jordi is currently supporting the Mental Health department in the development of a mobile clinical decision-support tool. In addition, Jordi serves as Innovation Consultant for various entities, including Fira Barcelona (host of the annual Mobile World Congress) and healthcare organizations in Spain, and is now a Grand Jury member of the World Summit Award. Through his work, Jordi collaborates with a number of regional and national governments at the European level and has been a Speaker at notable events specifically focusing on health and technology, including Health 2.0, Convergence Summit, MIHealth, Mobile World Congress and more. He has been involved in healthcare quality since 1988. He served as an NGO representative on the Advisory Committee of ISQuA (International Society for Quality Assurance) from 1995-1997, and on the Advisory Committee of the UK NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) from 1999-2004. He was a member of the Executive of the European Society for Quality in Healthcare since it was founded in 1998, was President 2005-7 and Vice-President 2007-9. He is a member of the EC expert group on Patient Safety and Health Quality. In 2009 he began a new career as a futurist, attending Said School of Business in Oxford to learn scenario planning. David and three colleagues set up EHFF, the European Health Futures Forum, as a not-for–profit network organisation in 2013 and he is currently Network Director. EHFF has served on the steering groups of both the EMPATHiE and PISCE tenders on patient empowerment and is now commencing, in partnership with EPF a further two year tender for DGSANTE on self-management in long term conditions, PROSTEP. EHFF has been active in the integrated care area (B3) of the EIP on AHA, the ChrodisJA joint action and leads a WP in a H2020 consortium on ICT enabled empowerment (PCP), EMPATICCS. Recently EHFF, with funding from the Bosch Foundation held a two day seminar in Berlin with 30 stakeholder representatives on issues related to early stage end-user involvement in eHealth product design.

Dr. Veli Stroetmann, MD, PhD, is Head of eHealth Research & Policy with empirica Technology Research, Bonn, Germany. She obtained an MD degree from the Academy for Medical Sciences in Sofia and a PhD in Medical Informatics. Over the last 25 years, she has been coordinator and principal investigator for European Commission studies on digital health policies, strategies, market research, business modelling and evaluation. She led the ScaleAHA study aiming to Support to Scaling up of Innovations in Active and Healthy Ageing and is currently leading work in support of the Blueprint for a Digital Transformation of Health and Care in an ageing society as part of the recently launched WE4AHA project supporting the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA). Areas of particular interest include socio-economic impact assessment (EHR-IMPACT), cross-border interoperability (EXPAND, VALUeHEALTH), uptake and sustainability of integrated care (SmartCare, CareWell). Dr. Stroetmann is editor and co-author of roadmaps on eHealth Innovation and scaling up personalised health services, Digital Patient research, semantic interoperability, eHealth Strategies of EU Member States. Dr. Stroetmann is Founding and Executive Board Member of the European Institute for Innovation through Health Data (i~HD) where she participates in the Data Quality Task Force.

Whilst in the Netherlands, he was one of the pioneers that started “Healthy Solutions”, a J&J daughter company that focused on developing integrated services in the healthcare field. Prof. Leo Wanner earned his Diploma degree in Computer Science from the University of Karlsruhe and his PhD in Linguistics from the University of The Saarland. Prior to joining the ICREA, he held positions at the German National Centre for Computer Science, University of Waterloo, the University of Stuttgart and the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. As a visiting researcher, he was also affiliated with U of Montreal, U of Sydney, U of Southern California's Institute for Information Sciences, and the Columbia University, New York. Throughout his career, Dr Wanner has been involved in various large scale national, European, and transatlantic research projects. He has published five books and over 100 refereed journal and conference articles and serves as regular reviewer for a number of high profile conferences and journals. Research Interests: Leo Wanner is working in the field of computational linguistics, teaching the computer how to supply people with information that might be useful to them in their language and how to serve as interpreter between people who do not speak a common language. Wanner's research foci include automatic multilingual report generation, automatic summarization of written material and paraphrasing. Furthermore, he is interested in lexicology and lexicography, and in particular, in the recognition, representation and use of lexical idiosyncrasies by both native speakers and learners of a language. Systems of the German National Centre for Computer Science, the Computer Science Department, University of Waterloo, Canada, the Information Sciences Institute of the University of Southern California, and the Intelligent Systems Institute, University of Stuttgart. Prof. Wanner's field of expertise is in Applied Computational Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence, and, in particular, in Natural Language Generation, Summarization and Paraphrasing.
