Foundation Giving Program 2017

Welcome to SPE's 75th Anniversary Campaign for Plastics Education

The Foundation's mission is to support the development of plastics professionals by funding quality educational programs, scholarships, and student experiences.

Hands-on experience counts. Students move toward technology and ideas they know. It's important to get younger students generally familiar with plastics and older students involved with internships and co-ops, working with equipment, doing research, and interacting with plastics professionals.

The SPE Foundation is the charitable arm of the SPE, a 501(c)(3) corporation. Your gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

"PlastiVan® Serves over 2,000 Students at Pennsylvania College of Technology”

In February with the support of Sekisui SPI and the Thermoforming and Automotive divisions of SPE, PlastiVan® spent a week providing activities for students at the Pennsylvania College of Technology conducting a jam-packed program on campus and in the surrounding community.

On February 14, 90 high school chemistry students toured the plastics labs and actively participated with the PlastiVan® and its various hands-on experiments. The next day we saw 150 students at Central Columbia High School.

On February 16, 1,500 fifth-graders participated in a Science Festival on the Penn College campus, with an estimated 300–400 additional students and parents attending in the evening. PlastiVan® was demonstrating crosslinking with a very popular slime-making station.

The following day, we took the PlastiVan® to Bloomsburg Area High School and held 5 sessions for 89 high school students. Finally, on February 18, we had 20 Girl Scouts join us for the PlastiVan® program.

Sekisui SPI—a global thermoplastics supplier and sheet producer—not only sponsored the event but attended several sessions and told students about their company and career opportunities in the industry.

This brief video captures some of the excitement that transpired that week:
