Make it today, wear it tonight! Using a butane torch, some silver wire, and a few premade bezels. Students will create 3 amazingly beautiful rings that are deceptively simple to construct. Students will learn techniques in soldering, filing, fabrication, and stone setting. Soldering experience is helpful but not required. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: None

Materials you are required to bring: 6"x6" or larger solder board, steel ring mandrel, butane and butane torch. Please Note: All students MUST have a butane torch to complete this project.

Design

Using premade jump rings as a design element incorporates the use of positive/negative space as a design element and allows for a lot of variability in design. Students will practice and perfect soldering skills while using jump rings as a basic building module. Since the circular shape is such a foundational design element, students will have the opportunity for unlimited exploration while refining metal smith skills. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Previous soldering experience is recommended

Materials you are required to bring: Butane torch, (Eurotool max flame recommended by instructor), butane, 6"x6" or larger solder board, oval steel bracelet mandrel, rubber or rawhide mallet, chasing hammer, flush cutter. Please Note: All students MUST have a butane torch to complete this project.

Make it today, wear it tonight! Weaving wire is a wonderful way to add texture and dimension to any project! Students will learn to cold connect a woven wire sheet to a cuff base to create a dramatic cuff. All levels are welcome and no metal working experience is required.You WILL complete this project in class.

Fusing

Create a dramatically textured cuff plus several links by fusing sterling silver scraps to a silver base plate. Embellish the components with tube set bezels for an added touch of elegance. Students will create 1 cuff and 8 links which may be linked together to form a bracelet or statement necklace, or used individually to create pendants and/or earrings. Students will learn to fuse silver without melting, a huge cost and time saver! You WILL complete this project in class.

The Three Stone Ring incorporates two basic design principles: the use of positive/negative space, and the rule of odds. These elements combine to create a visually pleasing and easily wearable design. It is also a relatively quick, easy, and economical project. Although previous soldering experience is recommended, adventurous beginners may also find this a satisfying project. You WILL complete this project in class.

If rapid and simple have a place in your jewelry making repertoire, then this class is right up your alley! It’s easy to add dimensional elements to your jewelry by using a simple repetitive technique developed by the instructor to create amazing textures on light-gauge metals. Students will learn micro fold forming (aka the Sherman fold), cold connections, and stone setting while creating a cool copper cuff. We will be doing lots of hammering and hearing protection is highly recommended.You WILL complete this project in class.

Applying flame patina

In this class we will use fire to paint a broad spectrum of color while creating a one of a kind patterned copper canvas. Several inspired cuffs incorporating leather will be created from the fire painted sheet. All finished pieces will be sealed to preserve the flame patina. All levels are welcome and no metalworking experience is required.You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: None

Materials you are required to bring: 6"x6" or larger solder board, oval steel bracelet mandrel, butane torch (Blazer micro torch recommended by instructor). Please Note: All students MUST have a butane torch to complete this project.
