Level: Intermediate Description of Workshop Levels
Technique: Chain Maille

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Applying rhinestone montees to jump rings
  Micro helm weave
  • Surrounding rivoli with chain maille

Did you think bling was just for the seed beaders? Not anymore. In this class we will work with very small jump rings and incorporate rhinestone montee beads as well as stunning rivolis in a necklace that will sparkle and shine. The centerpiece of the necklace is made using simple Helm Weave techniques and you will learn to incorporate rhinestones into the weave as well as surround a rivoli. To make the chain, you will micro maille in a Byzantine pattern while also learning to incorporate rhinestones into that pattern. You WILL NOT complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should be comfortable opening and closing jump rings. It will be helpful if student has done byzantine and helm weave chain maille projects before. Student must be able to see well. We are using very small materials.

Materials you are required to bring: 2 pairs of small flat nose or chain nose pliers, 1 or 2 pairs of small tip bent nose pliers, task light/magnifier

Level: Beginner Description of Workshop Levels
Technique: Chain Maille

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Mounting rhinestones onto jump rings
  Japanese chain maille techniques
  • Making a 3-D object

In this workshop, we will learn to make rhinestone balls which can then be linked together to make a stunning necklace. Mounting rhinestones onto jump rings will be the first challenge, then, Japanese Chain Maille Techniques will be used to configure the rhinestones into a 3 dimensional ball. Once all of the rhinestone balls are created, we will be able to easily link them together to create an amazing necklace that is sure to be noticed. You WILL NOT complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should be comfortable with opening and closing jump rings and be able to see well as materials are fairly small

Materials you are required to bring: 1 jump rings opener, 2 pairs of small tip flat nose or chain nose pliers, 1 or 2 pairs of small tip bent nose pliers, 1 Pair of small wire cutters, 1 Pair round nose pliers, task light and/magnifier if needed
