Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
Creating hinges
  • Tube setting
  Fusing argentum

 
Students will push their skills and design a two part pendant that will be hinged to create articulation. Students will solder a three part copper tube to each piece and then create a rivet to interlace the components. To dress up the pendant we will add a tube setting and set a faceted CZ (several choices of color/size) and fuse some argentum "stones" to add more dimension. To finish the piece we will form and texture heavy gauge wire, and connect with rivets. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should have a good understanding of soldering and precise filing

Materials you are required to bring: Bench block, riveting hammer, flat file, round needle file, saw frame, sharpie, metal cutting shears, optivisor if needed. Optional: tube cutting jig, texture hammers

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Forming hollow beads
  • Using hard, medium and easy solder
  • Dapping

Take your designs to the next level by creating your own multi metal hollow beads. Students will design, texture, dap, dome, drill and stamp silver, brass and copper before soldering all components together to great hollow beads. We will discuss using multiple steps during the soldering process, and three types of solder. How to create four different shapes will be discussed. Students will be able to fuse argentium silver to copper as an accent. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students must know how to solder, file, saw and use basic hand tools

Materials you are required to bring: saw frame/slotted bench pin-or-metal cutting shears, sharpie, triangle file
flat file, bench block, rawhide hammer/delron, texture hammer, hand towels, optivisor if needed, Optional:: teacher will have some to share - hole punch pliers, dapping blocks

• Stamping
  • Dying leather
  • Finishing leather

This beginner's workshop in leather will teach you how to stamp a design in leather, using both leather stamps and Native American stamps. Once stamped you can either seal and leave natural colored or add dye to your leather. We will finish by adding snaps to the cuff and finish the edges and seal the dye. These skills will allow you to design other pieces in leather. You WILL complete this project in class.

• Burning in a design
  • Dying leather
  • Adding snaps

Do you like to draw and doodle? How about bright and funky colors? Take all of those and apply to a leather cuff that will be one of a kind. First you will burn a design in the leather and then we will discuss two ways to dye the leather and then how to add snaps or eyelets to finish a leather cuff. Kit fee includes a leather/wood burning kit that you will take home ($24 value). Students will work on two cuffs at the same time. You WILL complete this project in class.

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Hot rivets
  • Design
  • Torching with stones

Articulation, movement, swinging silver! The movement of these earrings will catch light and attention when being worn. Learn to design, forge and hot rivet to make two pair of sterling silver earrings, one with stones, one without. We will drill holes, ball wire and attach all pieces to make earrings that are hinged in one of two places. Once you complete a sterling silver pair you will move on to the more challenging aspect of making hot rivets with stones. Come join me and learn the secrets of great technique.You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Comfortable with filing, basic metal work

Materials you are required to bring: Bench block and chasing hammer, hole punching tool , flat file

Let's party!! Patina party that is!!Join me in exploring various methods of adding colors and patina to your metal creations. Using copper discs we will explore using common household products, torches pencils, inks and more to add color as well as traditional methods including liver of sulfur. Some samples will be completed in class, others will be taken home to, fume, cure and develop overnight. This technique based class with add to your metal knowledge.You WILL NOT complete this project in class.
