Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost to attend?
Registration rates vary depending on when you register and whether or not you are a member. To find out more, head to the Registration Rates & Deadlines page.

Can I become a member and register for the conference at the same time?
No, you are not able to join or renew your IDA membership while registering. You may become a member here and use the invoice number provided in your confirmation email as your member ID to register for conference. Note: Membership must be active at the time of the conference to receive membership rates.

Are there discounts for students?
Full time, undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited university are eligible to receive a discount code for reduced pricing. To receive that discount code, you must first submit a copy of your current class transcript or class schedule to conference@dyslexiaida.org. Please do not submit this prior to registration opening.

What is the difference between family registration and professional registration?
Family registration is meant for parents and/or guardians of those with dyslexia. This registration is for Friday and Saturday only. There is a session track specifically for parents and families. The family registration rate is for valid for ONE attendee.

Professional registration is for all other attendees hoping to attend the full conference, Thursday through Saturday.

Am I required to choose my sessions in advance?
Yes. While the majority of rooms are large, we want to have enough seating for everyone without exceeding fire code regulations. To eliminate any difficulty onsite, we require attendees to sign up for their sessions in advance. Each attendee's badge lists the sessions for which he or she has registered to ensure admittance into those sessions. Sessions do fill to capacity, so please select your sessions as early as possible. See our Session Room Seating policy for more information.

Can I register for two sessions that occur at the same time?
No. The registration system prevents this for the reasons stated above. If you would like to change sessions onsite, please go to the registration booth and IDA staff will update your selections and reprint your badge.

What is included in the registration rate?
Registration includes access to all general sessions and breakout sessions, workshops, non-ticketed events, the exhibit hall, and any refreshment breaks Thursday-Saturday.
Are the pre-conference symposia included in the registration rate?
No. The pre-conference symposia are an additional cost and can be purchased during registration as an additional option.

I can't find my confirmation email. Was it actually sent?
Confirmation emails are automatically sent once registration is completed and paid for. If you cannot find your confirmation email, be sure to look in your spam/junk folder. 

Payment Policy
Can I register with a purchase order?
Attendees may register and "pay" with a purchase order, but you must include the purchase order number, billing contact and billing address during registration in order to complete your registration. You may even upload your purchase order during registration.

If you do not upload your purchase order during registration, a copy of the purchase order or check payment must be received no later than 15 days after completing your registration to avoid cancellation for non-payment.

If I can no longer attend, can someone else take over my registration?
Yes, if you are no longer able to attend the conference, we can substitute someone else into your registration. To do so, please email conference@dyslexiaida.org with the new registrants full name and email address. Once the substitution is completed, the new registrant will receive a confirmation email. 

Can I register a group of people at the same time?
Yes, you can register multiple people at the same time. If 10 or more are registered at the same time, everyone in the group will receive a 10% discount. Please contact us if you will be registering a group of people.

Hotel and Travel
How do I reserve a hotel room?
IDA's block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency is open. To book your accommodations, you will be able to do so directly online. For more information on the host hotel navigate to the Hotel Reservation page. The Hyatt Regency room block is now full. Please see below.

The hotel room block is full. Does IDA have discounted room blocks at other hotels?
The Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel block is now full. We have reserved another discounted room block at the Marriott Marquis Atlanta, directly connected to the Hyatt. To book your accommodations, please click here.

Is there a fee for parking at the hotel?
There is valet parking available at the hotel for a fee. IDA attendees will receive a 30% discount off of this fee. There are additional parking options available, but traveling to the hotel by M.A.R.T.A. is recommended as it is inexpensive and directly connected to the hotel. Does IDA offer discounts on air travel?
IDA has contracted with multiple airlines to assist attendees in getting to the conference for as little cost as possible. To find more information, click here.

I'm traveling from out of the country. How do I obtain a letter of invitation?
To receive a letter of invitation, you must first register and pay in full for the conference and then fill out an online form so that we can collect your information. For more information about traveling internationally and obtaining a letter of invitation, click here.

I'm registered, but didn't receive my conference badge or materials yet. When will I receive them?
Registration materials, including the program and your name badge are given out onsite upon your arrival. 

When will handouts be available for the sessions?
All presenters are encouraged to send their handouts to the conference department at least two weeks prior to the conference so that we are able to upload them to the mobile app and our website. An email will be sent to attendees letting them know when handouts are available.

Are pets allowed at the conference?
Service animals are always welcome. Unfortunately, we cannot allow non-service animals. 

Will you have childcare available?
At this point, we have no plans to include childcare to our onsite services. 

Mobile App
Is there a mobile app for the conference?
Yes, there is a mobile app that will be available this fall. Check back soon for more information. 

I think I registered for sessions on the mobile app. Does that add it to my registration?
No. The mobile app is simply a planning and communication tool. Bookmarking sessions or events in the app does not add them to your actual registration. To modify your sessions, please visit the registration desk and the staff will be more than happy to assist you.

Will the mobile app sync to multiple devices?
Yes! Once you create an account with the app you will be able to log in from whichever devices you would like (if they are compatible).

Can I attend the conference virtually?
Yes! For the first time, DyslexiaCon will be available via a Virtual Conference. For more information about the virtual conference, click here.
What is the dress code?
Business casual is appropriate attire. Be sure to dress in layers as session rooms tend to be chilly.

I require special assistance. How can I request it?
If you require special assistance, please indicate this during the registration process. Someone from the IDA Conference Department will contact you to ensure your needs are met.

Does IDA offer scholarships?
Yes, IDA offers scholarships for both parents and educators. At this time, IDA scholarships have been fulfilled. Please check back next year for scholarships that we will be offering to attend the 2018 Reading, Literacy & Learning Conference.

What is the cancellation policy?
All cancellations, without exception, must be in writing via email to conference@dyslexiaida.org by October 13, 2017. IDA will refund registration fees, less a $35 cancellation fee. Refunds will be processed within twelve weeks following the conference. If you cancel any time after October 13, 2017, or if you are unable to attend the conference for any reason, we cannot refund your registration fees in whole or in part.

Are continuing education hours available for attending this conference?
Yes! IDA is an approved provider of continuing education units for the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Both are available at an additional charge and require registration and paperwork to be completed onsite.

Additionally, those hoping to secure clock hours for their IDA renewal or certification will also be able to obtain that during the annual conference.

IDA offers a Certificate of Attendance that will be provided onsite when you pick up your registration materials and will also be sent electronically following the conference.

Depending on the rules and regulations of your accrediting bodies or departments of education, CEUs can often be used to obtain credit. We highly recommend that you check with your accrediting body or department of education about any requirements PRIOR to attending the Conference.

May I audio/video record the sessions?
To protect the privacy of our speakers, no attendee may record any session. However, if the presenter has agreed, IDA audio records sessions that are available for purchase during registration, onsite, and following the conference.

Can I deduct my registration fee on my taxes as a professional development cost?
Please consult your tax professional to determine if the IDA Conference qualifies for any type of tax deduction.

Can you help me convince my leadership that I should attend the conference?
Many attendees have found that writing a letter to justify the cost of registration has helped them secure paid leave for the conference. We have developed a template and compiled additional information for you to use to start this process.
