FTAdviser Roadshow - GAM

By definition, havens are secure places; safe harbours in stormy times. Traditionally, the
so-called 'safe havens' of investment have been considered to be sovereign debt, mega caps, gold and Yen. We have seen great rushes to these asset classes during times of uncertainty and stress.

Yet since the GFC in 2008/09, we have seen a convergence of performance and greater correlation between asset classes. This, combined with rigid fiscal policies from the major central banks, ultra-low interest rates and frequent market surprises, means it is harder than ever for advisers to steer their clients into a safe harbour.

As such, we feel it is important to redefine what safety really means. Some would argue a diversified portfolio is the most viable 'safe haven', managed by an investment manager that can avoid moves to expensive assets during every market wobble. Is the safest haven an investment with the ultimate aim of providing clients with consistent and steady results across the cycle?

Our series of seminars will explore the current market environment and performance of individual asset classes, analyse the virtues of  genuine and effective portfolio diversification, and examine what value outsourcing portfolio management to a discretionary manager or multi-asset specialist can provide.
