  • Soldering Argentium and Sterling Silver
  • Flaring techniques for a wide band ring
  • Texturing sheet metal a texture hammer
• Making a spinning ring over another ring


Learn the fundamentals of soldering Argentium Silver and Sterling Silver metals with expert Janet Alexander who has over 40 years of experience in soldering. In this class you will make a wide flared band ring with your choice of spinner. Learn about the pros and cons of working in Argentium metal, annealing processes, solder types, sizing a ring, creating a spinner for the ring, flaring techniques, using a torch, and fast finishing techniques to save time. Janet brings extra tools for last minute registrations. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Know how to saw metal with a jeweler's saw

Materials you are required to bring:
Two sets of needle nose pliers, jewelers saw frame, fine point permanent marker, flat file, and ring mandrel if you don’t want to share. Optional: magnifying glasses and task light.

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Making granuation
  • Working with argentium silver
  • Setting a cabochon stone
• Advanced soldering techniques
• Creating a Hidden Bail

Learn the ins and outs for fusing Argentium Silver and 22k Gold granulation from expert jeweler, Janet Alexander the 2015 Saul Bell Finalist. With her 40 years of experience in working with metals, Janet passes on her tricks and tips on working with metals. In this Intermediate class learn the processes of fusing and how it differs from soldering. Learn when to fuse and when to solder, how to set a cabochon stone, and make granulation. Janet brings extra tools for last minute registrations. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should know how to saw metal and have experience using a torch

Materials you are required to bring:
Flush cut wire cutters, fine flat file, needle nose pliers, jewelers saw frame and 4/0 blades, burnisher, fine tipped tweezers, fine tipped permanent marker.

• Reticulation sterling silver
  • Fusing argentium
  • Tube setting a faceted stone

Who doesn’t love to watch metal melt! Reticulating silver creates mountains and valleys by melting the sterling silver alloy (80/20) metal to a precise heat. Every reticulation comes out different. Create your own reticulated pendant and learn a fast and easy way to set a stone in a tube setting and then solder the pieces together creating your own one of a kind art piece. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Must know how to solder

Materials you are required to bring:
Jewelers saw frame and 3/0 – 4/0 blades, burnisher, fine small flat file, ring mandrel (if you don’t want to share), mallet, flush cutters, and safety glasses.

It’s always fun to add color to your jewelry pieces! Whether you have done torch enameling before or not, this beginner class introduces you to adding more technique to your enameling knowledge! Learn the basics of Cloisonné enameling while creating this fun Kaleidoscope Pendant! We will make this fun pendant using torch enameling techniques on copper. Janet learned enameling from several award winning artists and passes on her expertise of 40+ years in making jewelry. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: None

Materials you are required to bring:
Needle nosed pliers, round nosed pliers, fine point tweezers, wire cutters or sharp scissors, and flat file. Optional: Optivisor or magnifying glasses and task light.
